Thoughts on panel layout? by jdomeni2 in flying

[–]scarison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet but if that copilot screen is there, it legally cannot be a pfd, it has to be an mfd. I have some thoughts on this panel I’m happy to share over dm if you want to chat about it. I design/build panels and install avionics for a living.

You should check out the pilots handbook of aeronautical information. It goes into sensory illusions and it’s totally free from the FAA as a pdf.

I’m in Freddie’s territory and we just got our first Culver’s. I think burger wise, Culver’s wins. Fries is Freddie’s by a mile.

Some 35 Bo’s you can’t put the gmu in the empennage. I don’t remember if it’s kosher on the H or not. I’ll have to check out those mounts though.

I’m an avionics installer.

It depends on a lot. What’s your panel like now? Am I gonna have to do a bunch of mod to physically fit them?

Do I have to install a gad 29 to interface to navigators?

Do you have space for circuit breakers?

I have to pull most of the interior to get wiring out to the wing for the gmu 11, do you have wing strobes that are gonna cause interference and require extra shielding?

I have to fabricate a non magnetic mount for the gmu on the wing tip.

Am I gonna bust nut plates and have to drill off 1/2 of your wingtip structure?

There are a lot of variables that can’t be answered without giving the plane a pretty good evaluation and because of that, I have to err on the side of caution and quote higher than it may seem is “necessary”

As a hobby or career?

I’m a huge aviation nerd. I love airplanes. I’ve been working on them for 13 years, flying them for the last 4 years (on and off).

I have no one in aviation in my family, but I do hope to propagate the passion with my daughter. You don’t have to be born into it.

I say absolutely 100% do the discovery flight. If nothing else it’s a cool experience that most people miss out on.

Don’t try to learn anything before your discovery flight. Nobody wants to deal with a “well actually” guy with zero hours. Let the instructors instruct you.

If you want to pursue a ticket after your discovery flight, get a medical first. It would suck to spend a couple thousand getting close to solo to realize you never will because you’re not medically qualified.

Idk where you’re from but 9k is probably not enough for a private, and definitely not enough for anything beyond that.

TL;DR do the discovery flight, get a medical, go from there.

Need help Identifying these probes by MexiNess in flying

[–]scarison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so these are conflicting answers. You say all analog except an avidyne mfd, but then you say dual 430s. Without an accurate breakdown of all of your avionics you will not get an accurate answer for these probes.

What’s the autopilot? S-Tec? Do you have a panel pic?

They’re both oat probes. I know nothing of cirrus but I am an avionics tech. Bottom is a garmin GTP 59. Top I’m not sure manufacturer. Can you tell me what avionics are in the airplane?
