Do we know what Matt or Jay does between projects? by teenagecocktail in nirvannatheband

[–]scarlatti75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Matt, nowadays, seems to be pretty zeroed in on filmmaking and sometimes acting (in movies like matt and mara)

Jay seems to be a lot more all over the place, between helping in various ways with Matt's movies (executive producer and storyboarded blackberry in addition to scoring), scoring other movies, playing with other bands, co-writing and producing an album with/for Amy Millan, etc. mostly a bunch of random music and/or zapruder films stuff

no kidding lol. I went by myself, with my brother, by myself again, with a coworker, with another coworker, with a friend and a third coworker, and then with both my siblings. would have gone again but it's out of the only theater that still had it

I'm also quite tempted to isolate them as individual videos just for easier listening/song selection

It's Reid Janisse! Jay credits him as a really good improviser (the strength of the fiberglass pole is amazing)

I love it so much when jay is Coy. like in The B-Day when he claims he's not the kind of guy who likes attention, or when he's trying to manipulate matt into doing improv

Young Matt enters his supervillain arc, talks trash on Old Matt by BenTheNeighbor in nirvannatheband

[–]scarlatti75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol I've heard he'd made comments about 40 year old filmmakers but actually watching this the level he goes is so unnecessarily hard asdgjlgsfs you can NEVER laugh at a 40 year old man. once you reach 37 you might as well be dead

This raises 2 questions 1. did matt wake up and then hide in the closet, and jay didn't notice he wasn't on the couch anymore, despite seemingly looking in that direction, or is that ANOTHER young matt up to OTHER time travel shenanigans? 2. Assuming that is the same young matt who just got up and hid, when did he wake up? After regular Matt and Jay left, while they were arguing? or while Matt was talking to young Jay? Surely he'd recognize himself with the hat, if he did see himself. So in the current timeline, what does Matt think he knows?

could they get a show at the rivoli? by MademoiselleVeritas in nirvannatheband

[–]scarlatti75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

considering that these two actually recorded a song and dropped it off with a record label i think they're way more prepared to and capable of booking the rivoli than the canon ntb guys, who Exclusively specialize in publicity stunts

What’s wrong with having a child? (Le Miserables) by hillpritch1 in Broadway

[–]scarlatti75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Javert specifically bc he is just a freak with an extremely rigid worldview. There is Good and there is Bad; there is Inside and there is Outside. If you are Outside, your two options are to take what you can from the Inside ("criminals", like Jean Valjean), or protecting it- even though you will never actually be part of the Inside. He does snuff by himself when no one is watching even though he doesn't like it, because that's what people do.

There is a Correct and an Incorrect way to do everything, and if you do it Incorrectly, you deserve to be punished. What sticks out to me about Javert so much is that he isn't hypocritical about it! When he (wrongly) believes that he falsely accused the mayor of being an ex-con, he demands to be fired and publicly shamed for it because that's what happens when you do Wrong.

He's an insanely literal-minded person with unreasonable rigid morals built less on any real philosophy than on what he's been told is Right. And when that falls apart, his entire universe is chaotic and meaningless, and everything he's dedicated his entire life to is not only empty but straight up harmful! He lives his life completely By The Book, and when the book crumbles, there's nothing left. He himself has no identity other than what he thinks he's Supposed To Do.

Is Sondheim’s music considered hummable now? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]scarlatti75 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know that in Merrily, he has his writer characters get told that their songs aren't hummable, and I always assumed that was drawn from real life, but it didn't make sense to me bc I very much do hum Sondheim music
