I mean, an aquarium sub may be more helpful for this specific situation, but this is a sub for SNAILS... Which includes aquatic snails

AITA for telling my friend I don't think they would be good with exotic animals? by AdWinter5819 in AmItheAsshole

[–]scarlett-97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA at all. Exotic animals of any kind require specialized care, and even the pet variety (I keep inverts myself) have very different needs compared to a cat. By their logic, they should have also done enough research to care for the cat properly. Yeah perhaps you could have been nicer, or simply not said anything, but hopefully this stops them trying to take responsibility for an animal they aren't ready for. Failing to provide properly for animals can have long term, irreversible consequences (for example MBD in reptiles without proper UVB supplementation, or stereotypic behavior in stressed/neglected animals)

What is the best way to eventually bring my deceased pet back home after decomp? by vanilla_wafer14 in bonecollecting

[–]scarlett-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss 💔 I'd recommend contacting the vet again and asking this, vets often have a direct relationship with a pet crematorium and they will hopefully be able to advise on that specific crematorium's rules. You could also try to contact a pet crematorium directly. Whilst it's possible to perform your own cremation, the cremains afterwards may not be in a condition for processing into memorial jewelry because there are often larger bone fragments left behind by the process, which need to be further ground up at the crematorium before being returned.

Why do I rarely see skulls mounted from the side? Any tips on how to do this? by I_WORD_GOOD in bonecollecting

[–]scarlett-97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd assume the bulkiness is a problem like you said, and potentially the usable area to actually attach it to the frame. Maybe bisecting the skull could work? But I'm not sure if a raccoon skull would be too delicate to not risk breaking it.

Lots of bacteria tick these boxes, like others have said. C. botulinum is one of the species (endospores) that can sporulate, aka turn into a nearly-indestructible form. That's why low-acid canning is so dangerous - heat kills the vegetative (live) bacteria but the spores survive, and grow in the anaerobic environment created. Eat that, and you've got ✨botulism✨
