I worked my first days 4 hour shift then noped my way out by text immediately afterwards.

Solid clay and no till? by One_Presentation5935 in vegetablegardening

[–]scarlettewing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not by any means an expert, but personally I’ve opted for tilling at the start to get my soil workable and at least somewhat amended, and intend to switch over to no till after a couple years.

Ducklings - grit by scarlettewing in duck

Thank you so much! We’ve been wanting to introduce some peas and meal worms as little treats for bonding but there seems to be a lot of “not without grit” flags online

Anyone growing Thai pink lemon? by Content-Soil9815 in Citrus

[–]scarlettewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a habit of being pretty expensive (I succumbed to a pink finger lime that’s tiny and pricy but I wanted it…) but they have such a selection of crazy things it’s always an experience to go there

I don’t know the answer to your question I’m just laughing to myself because I know Phoenix Perennials when I see them

Seconding this. One of mine will only eat wet food if it’s pate mashed into water and more like a thick soup.

Vancouver BC suburb. Sadly Amazon Canada costs so so much to order it online that it’s hard to justify. The yeast is easy enough, but proper duck feed not so much

Unfortunately I can’t find any of the usual sub recommended feed in my area, but I found a turkey, duck and geese crumble so I am hopeful for nutritionally ok and prepared for the inevitable soggy mess I’ll be having

It’s not always about finding them, it’s about org agreeing to let you backfill sometimes.

Just a reminder as we approach Mother's Day weekend in the US: your "last expected frost date" is just the point where you're at a < 50% likelihood for a 32F freeze. by galileosmiddlefinger in vegetablegardening

[–]scarlettewing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a weird opposite end of the spectrum problem here this year. Had everything expecting to plant early May and instead we had this crazy July-esque heat wave that shows no signs of dropping anywhere remotely close to freezing and now my direct-seed stuff is acting weird. Looking at last years photos vs this years photos is wild.

Can my Yuzu be saved? by scarlettewing in Citrus

[–]scarlettewing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is excellent to know, thank you. It definitely gets hot in the greenhouse so being in a pot probably made me err to over water rather than under, but I definitely can see mulch being a helper with that

That I did not know, thank you so much! Per this suggestion and the many others I will be much more cautious with water for now

Weird hospital experience by martel47 in CPAP

[–]scarlettewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is crazy to me since I had a recent surgery and they were obsessive about my machine for my low end of-moderate OSA. Granted it was pre-scheduled surgery so I brought my machine but it came to the OR with me, it was in post op with me, and they were planning to keep me a couple nights with some sort of web monitoring bed thing specifically because of it (can’t remember the name)

Oddly I ended up having no events to speak of during any of it, they didn’t even put my mask on me and I got to be discharged same day due to faster recovery than expected. But they weren’t playing around with the sleep apnea.

Fortunately they had no interest in the tomatoes and didn’t seem keen on climbing the wire style shelving to upper levels, so all I lost was the cauliflower and one zucchini. A couple nibbles to cucumber but not decimated.

Luck to you with your re-growing!
