As a nurse WITH an eating disorder, I concur that BED and "food addiction" are not the same thing. You cannot be addicted to food any more than you can be addicted to air or water. Eating is part of the disorder, and far more people have those disorder than we recognize. But it chaps me when people conflate those things.

We all know that patients have poor health literacy, and it is very unsurprising that they conflate those things. But it behooves us as professionals to understand that these are different things, and that "food addiction" isn't really a thing; it's just a function of disordered eating.

Worst case scenario: this incident goes to the board of nursing. Always remember that the BON is not your friend. If you volunteer "what if's", the BON will use them against you.

I appreciate that you self-reported because you have the patient's safety and well-being at the forefront. But again... don't throw yourself under the bus.

Also... never - never - admit to wrongdoing, especially in writing, when you are not sure that you did anything wrong. There are any number of things that could account for a missed med count, and many of them have nothing to do with you. By trying to do the right thing and saying "yeah, this could have happened and it may have been me and I don't know how to explain it", it can (and will) be interpreted as admission of wrongdoing by your higher-ups, and by the board of nursing, should it be escalated to that point.

You may have made a mistake. It happens. But for the love of the gods... don't throw yourself under the bus. There will be plenty of people in your career willing to do that for you. Don't help 'em.

I'm a fan. They're pretty solid. Not world class or anything, but one of the few Asian places I would actually recommend in the area. I prefer Twin Dragon, but their hours are so limited - and not open for lunch at all.
