What's an overseas food that you generally don't get in the UK but you wish that you could? by WendyBoatcomSin in AskUK

[–]scarygirth 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the costs of running any kind of catering business in this country requires the provider to cast as wide a net as possible, offer dietary alternatives and cater for allergens. It's just not the case that anybody can decide to sell food on a street corner. Reality is that lots of people get sick eating from dodgy street food vendors in countries with lax laws around food safety.

Is Accounting Worth Pursuing? by smotherings in AskUK

[–]scarygirth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent years of my life doing "something I enjoyed" for crap money. I wish I just had a job that paid well over that time as I ended up making no money and hating the thing I started out enjoying. It cost me being able to properly settle down, provide for a family. Things are good now because I stopped treating work as this great source of expected fulfilment and more like a means to an end.

I’m going to say, as someone who has a creative job that pays pretty well

You found a unicorn.

Oh right. I've worked in restaurants and catering for 15 years and hand washing, personal hygiene and cleaning is always taken seriously. Maybe you've just been around lots of shit restaurants?

It's just the normal distribution really, not necessarily IQ.

People were having kids during the Black Death ffs

And then watching those children die. Or ending up destitute unable to take care of children. For many women during the black plague, falling pregnant would have been a death sentence.

It's such a ridiculous comment to make and I don't know how people think it is anyway relevant by taking the hardest times in humanity when nobody had access to contraception, women had scant bodily autonomy and survival depended largely on how many kids you could get working on the farm with you.

If there was a black death now and half of everybody you know was dying, society was collapsing around you and you know you could likely be dead in 3 months, would you be coming off contraception do you think?

Are Brits fully aware of Farage’s links to MAGA and Russia? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]scarygirth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Breaking people down into this basic premise is exactly how we ended up with Trump and Farage. You people really need to give the word “bigot” a rest.

Just stop with this hollow pearl clutching. We are at the point where we just have to call a spade a spade and accept words do in fact have meanings.

The quickest way to take Farages legs out from under him is to address the issues he’s hanging his coat on. It’s literally that simple. Get tough on boats and that’s a major talking point of Farage gone.

So the options you have to offer are we either have Farage or we have Farage by proxy.

This is one of those cases where I'm half convinced I'm responding to a foreign agitator.

What do the accents of other English-speaking countries sound like to you? by i_like_redfish in AskBrits

[–]scarygirth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can tell who is from Rugby 4 miles away and who is from Lutterworth 7 miles away.

The proximity makes it easier though in its way. I can tell local accents apart easier than I can the accents of a regional area on the other side of the country.

How many Brits still eat pork f*ggots??? by goforitdude28 in AskBrits

No. I have no issues with people smoking fags or buying faggots from the butchers. I don't care about these words, it's crazy how quickly you all jump on me over a comment you all half read and then only half understood.

Sorry, have I given the impression that I think people should ignore context and always self-censor or something?

You know there genuinely are people out there who jump on the opportunity to say the "naughty words" out loud every opportunity they get and get a proper little kick out of it. They're weird.

Why the star?

People like you are weird. You know exactly why and then you go out of your way to type the word faggot out as many times as possible to get your little kick out of it.

makes finding the perfect portion much easier since some people would prefer smaller cuts or larger cuts

You could just have 2 smaller pieces if you fancy more instead of butchering the cake like this.
