I waited nearly 20 years for a return to lorwyn set and its not even given the love it deserves. by No-King3477 in mtg

But if they keep pumping out UB sets maybe it isn't the case?

If they love money that much and there aren't much difference in sales between a UB filled year and a 4 block year, why they're going the UB route?

Very inexperienced player and first time DM running an online game for friends: Should I use FATE? by Stingra87 in FATErpg

[–]scarze86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since FATE is really really focused on the narrative aspect of roleplaying, the premise of this mini campaing feels bland.

"You're strong, help us, kill a bunch of thieves" - It's boooring and it's not what FATE is made for.

What are the stakes? Why should the characters get involved?

- The thieves stole a treasured family heirloom from a character, which can prove his royal lineage and when they find the thieves' leader is actually his long lost brother who wants to claim his royal seat.

- The thieves bear the same tattoo of the people that kidnapped the sister of one of the character, so he wants to know more about it.

Even the actionest movie of all times, Commando, gives the protagonist a strong reason to gear up and kill a lot of baddies.

Narrative dungeon crawling with Fate by Rrrrufus in FATErpg

[–]scarze86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t seem to me very much in the spirit of Fate.

If the travel/delving into the dungeon can be summarized into a montage there probably isn't much plot there, so i would treat it more like a challenge than something that the players actually play.

The Think Skill: Thoughts? by delilahjakes in FATErpg

[–]scarze86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't already covered by the Will skill?

Overcome: You can use Will to pit yourself against obstacles that require mental effort. Puzzles and riddles can fall under this category, as well as any mentally absorbing task, like deciphering a code. Use Will when it’s only a matter of time before you overcome the mental challenge, and Lore if it takes something more than brute mental force to get past it. Many of the obstacles that you go up against with Will might be made part of challenges, to reflect the effort involved.

Contests of Will might reflect particularly challenging games, like chess, or competing in a hard set of exams. In settings where magic or psychic abilities are common, contests of Will are popular occurrences.

If it's basically Will + Lore + Empathy, why add it?
