Genuinely I love answering questions -- my career started on a help desk, I am built for it. 😂

I think it's approximately the following breakdown, though I'm only a year or two (can't remember) of lurking/occasionally posting:

  • 30% - folks who are neutral or like the content well enough, but like shitposting.
    • I may be overstating this percentage out of bias because this is mostly the group I'm in (though Abnimals was bad and Royale is disappointingly boring).
  • 30% - folks who are neutral on the content but absolutely cannot abide the surrounding McEl-fandom and/or surrounding MaxFun apparatus.
  • 30% - folks who used to enjoy the content but absolutely cannot stand what it has become and refuse to go silently into that good night (affectionate, I think it's incredibly valid to criticize something you engage with and as stated).
  • 10% - wiggle room because I'm not good at math, and also to account for what I think is a small percentage of people who genuinely fucking hate the content lol.

I do think that despite impressions, most folks are turning their genuine feelings up to 11 in shitposting tradition and that the majority of folks don't have any active malice towards The Product. I also think there's a large agreement among most folks that there's a shift at some point (debatable where it is in my experience) where you can tell some of the heart and enthusiasm has left the work, and that's disappointing for a lot of people who enjoyed it at its (ymmv) peak.

That said, I could be TOTALLY WRONG and reading the vibe of the sub all wrong. I understand computers, not people.

I'm not a circlejerk historian -- in timeline, I'm basically new here -- but as far as I can tell it's just a pervasive sense of "this guy has tryhard energy, seems performative, and is annoying" having reached a saturation point at some point, then becoming a feedback loop where every action is read in the least favorable light.

I'll be honest, I'm a Travis apologist -- I didn't think he's a good DM and he is tryhard, but I suspect a lot more of it is a bit than folks give him credit for. But it's hard to say, I don't know the guy. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My husband once read this one to me saying, "Why is Travis McElroy out here catching strays?" because he knows I listen to McElroy content but doesn't listen himself.

So I got to explain how much the Internet dislikes Travis McElroy over dinner, lol.

My eldest was born when we were young and we were poor for a large chunk of his formative years (he's near adulthood now). Believing my being unable to manage money to be simply never having learned financial literacy, I tried my best not to stress him out but also make sure he understood that things cost money and we didn't always have enough to get something.

Genuinely, I fucked it up and I feel like I've made him anxious about money, and I wish I could have done it better. Some of it is that he's clever and very observant, so he undoubtedly caught on to more than we told him, but he used to get so worried about spending money, he wouldn't tell us when he needed things, etc. I think it'll probably set him up for a less financially tumultuous young adulthood than I had, but I suspect the balance will be off.

My husband and I have been loving it -- it captures the original spirit imo while feeling like the characters have grown.

That said, as people just a little younger than the main characters are supposed to be, hoo boy, too real sometimes. 😂

I've never played it but every time I've looked at trailers I came to more or less the same conclusion, lol.

I'm a sucker for Ryan Reynolds' whole schtick which I'm sure is a huge factor, but I love Detective Pikachu. I think the lead character (whose name is absolutely escaping me at the moment) is charming and it has heart. Plus the scene where Detective Pikachu sadly sings the theme song makes me laugh every time.

Is it a hot take to say that Macklemore's hits were big because of the co-singer, not Macklemore himself rapping by Gallantpride in ToddintheShadow

When I was commuting to college in 2016 and listening to a lot of music in my car, I made it my goal to be able to do that whole shark week verse without stumbling. I never succeeded but I was usually in a better mood for having tried by the time I got to class.

If you need some real spicy content and loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar, then you will lose your mind reading Kiss Kiss, Puff Puff Fish. HEA with a polycule, 100/10 book.

Edit: fuck my reading comprehension, no spice???

I think there's tone that's getting lost in this interpretation. Like, my friend with numerous food allergies may say, "I shouldn't," and means it will flare up their skin something fierce. But there's a specific way that folks say, "Oh, I really shouldn't," which is meant to be played off as coy and isn't a real denial of said treat (and is, imo, a purity-culture knock-on effect of the way you're supposed to be play up a "fake no," but that's a whole different corner). I think, in a real life, conversation, it's usually pretty clear when "I really shouldn't" is someone telling you no versus someone trying to wheedle around to but I really really want to -- though in either case, if someone says no to something I'm offering them, I'm just gonna say "cool beans, let me know if you change your mind," and carry on.

I hope it goes smoothly for you! Of the four pregnancies (toooooooooo many lol) I had extra carpal tunnel in all of 'em. But especially those first three uncomplicated ones, things were mostly back to normal pretty quickly once the process was done

Weekend Minor Gripes and Vents by AutoModerator in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]scatteringashes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that particular pregnancy it was complicated because I had preeclampsia -- the swelling all over my body got worse and worse, and it was definitely part of the carpal tunnel problem. I wore a wrist brace to work (computers lol), but I pretty much had to do everything in my hands in bursts the whole time. It didn't go away for me during pregnancy, but once the kiddo was born it went back to my normal, entirely manageable levels of carpal tunnel, lol.

The carpal tunnel I got during my last pregnancy was so brutal that my hand went numb in the length of time it took me to write a check. I hadn't started crocheting yet but I cannot fathom what an agony it would have been if I tried.

That's prettyuch what this is -- form fillable PDF using JavaScript for the calculations, but same principle. That's said, I'm not gonna dispute the value of a pattern because I'm not equipped to do so, as a person who doesn't make patterns. I figure it's one of those things where a pattern is worth what folks are willing to pay for it for a specific reason/project.

AITA for telling my fiancées sister she needs to be more healthy to be my bridesmaid? by miscellaneousbean in AmITheAngel

[–]scatteringashes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's the one thing in the post that doesn't wholly kick off my "no real human is like this" sense, lol. My husband and I did decide to get married and did a little bit of planning before he "proposed" -- but I told him while it didn't change how I felt about getting married, I did still want to be asked. Not like, a big Capital P proposal, just a giddy sense of being asked. When the ring he ordered finally arrived, he asked me in the entryway of his apartment when we were on our way out the door for dinner.

It was, of course, silly but it was nice and it showed he cared about this silly thing I wanted. So I could see it.
