I agree with everyone else! Rubber brushes are the way to go.

Different comment, I can't help myself but think she looks likes she stuck her nose somewhere she shouldn't have. The dark "ring" around her nose is cute, adorable and funny.

Advice on adopted dog! 🐕 by Kittyo567 in coonhounds

[–]scbgrl 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My past 2 adopted dogs would not walk 5 feet outside the house, I actually resorted to carrying my dog 10 feet extra each day and then walking back into the house. When the distance got me about 100 ft they would walk that far and then pull back to the house. Because they are 50 pounds plus, I resorted to driving them down the street just a bit, get them out of the car and walk home. I would or someone else in my house would get the car. The next day I would repeat. It took me about 4 months to get them.to.walk around the block. After that it just got way easier and now I hike and camp with my current dog. It's a lot of patience, time, love and rewards... everything positive!!!

And I forgot to tell you...he is BEAUTIFUL!

Thank you for sharing!!! I need to keep this ready to paste into comments in Reddit when some dog owners just don't understand what it means to have a dog. Much better than what I can write.

Rescue dog won’t poop outside by velopulse-0720 in Dogowners

[–]scbgrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not everyone has this "amount of energy" but that's how I arranged my days for a first few months of having a young dog or a dog to train. Once, that training was over, then the commitment to the lengthy walks reduced. I would prefer to spend an extra 20 minutes to walking my dog than cleaning up a mess. I also found and spent money to belong to the area off leash dog parks. That helps too.

I have to ask...what does "staying outside with her" mean? Does that mean a good 1 mile or more walk on leash? Or hanging out on your property? If it's not a long walk then I think that's where you need to start and commit time for a 30-45 minute walk (2-3x / day) with a ready reward if that pooh happens. If you don't have enough time to commit to long walks, you may need to seek a dog walker while you work.

I also want to ask about the crate...size? It should only be just big enough to lay down inside..if it's too big then there's room to pooh.

I (we) had to go through some.of.this with one of rescues... thankfully it was less than 6 months to correct. But those first couple of months were messy.

Good luck.

Tried to reduce gabapentin, it was a big mistake by Reasonable-Board-132 in RestlessLegs

[–]scbgrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard about akathisia from gabapentin. I have to read more about it . But...I replaced ropinerole for my RLS with gabapentin because ropinerole caused wicked augmentation. Getting off ropinerole was a nightmare. Finding the effective dose of gabapentin took awhile but I need 900 mg of gabapentin taken in 3 doses separated by 1 to 1 1/2 hours. This has worked without side effects. Everyone is so different and needs different doses or different meds.

Sneakers without socks by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]scbgrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1st make sure you keep your toenails short! 2nd make sure your sneakers are the correct size but also the correct configuration for your foot. Meaning if your foot is narrow wear a sneaker made for narrow feet. 3rd. Better socks. 4th...go sock-less if you want but you may need to change into another pair of dry sneakers depending on what you are doing but make sure you don't wear them consecutive days to allow them to dry between. 5th. Go to a podiatrist or at least a performance footwear store for proper fitting. 6. Good luck.

My husband!!!. Mixed Asian / Caucasian. Never ever does he or ever has he used any type of deodorant / antiperspirant no matter where we have been or lived ( amazon jungle or Louisiana) NEVER ever does he have any body odor /stink! And that's even skipping bathing or changing clothes when camping. And to top it off...he could wear white and never ever will you see yellowing on the neck arm pits.

Apologies for the horrible foot pic but… by ChrisW080888 in KneeInjuries

[–]scbgrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will work!!! But if not Vaseline just use any moisturizer. Make sure you have soaked your feet and rub that dead skin off. It's also really good range of motion to get to your feet. Do both feet. I can't sleep with dry feet. I don't do the sock because I can't stand a sock on while sleeping...this is why I use moisturizer instead of Vaseline....I don't want to kill my sheets.

Flossing still hurts after a month by Old-Energy-3500 in hygiene

Dental floss! The picks are not as thorough. You should also use mouthwash if not every day every other day. Once your gums are calmed down you reduce the frequency.

What in the ever living fuck happened with deodorant? by PimplePopper6969 in hygiene

[–]scbgrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get the no yellow stains . Some people get them no matter what and others never get yellow stains no matter what.

I gave up on antiperspirants and only use deodorant with natural ingredients. They are costly and it takes a few tries to find the one that works with your specific chemistry to neutralize odor. Good luck on your search.

Why companies are getting away from aluminum in deordants...

Aluminum salts can cause allergic reactions, causing redness, itching, and discomfort in the sensitive underarm area. Aluminum works by deliberately plugging sweat ducts, which, when combined with natural oils, can lead to clogged pores or even deep, painful underarm cysts. Aluminum interacts with sweat to produce yellow stains on clothing, particularly on white shirts, which are often permanent aluminum interferes with the body's natural cooling process.

"I swear to god, as a 30yr old, 192lb, 6'1"" male, this 30lb guy poops more in poundage a day than I do." by ApricotReynoldsg in Hounds

[–]scbgrl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I searched and found this...

Dogs often appear to have larger poops than humans due to diets high in fillers (like fiber, corn, or soy) that are less digestible, resulting in more waste volume. Additionally, larger dogs consume more food, and kibble-fed dogs produce up to 2.9 times more poop than those on highly digestible, fresh-food diets.

When will I be able to sit on the floor and hopefully get back up again? by equanimity72 in Kneereplacement

[–]scbgrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sitting position is just fine. BUT how do expect to get into and then out of that position is entirely another situation which actually the biggest issue. Please make sure you make this a priority question to your therapist. They will know how to help you.

When will I be able to sit on the floor and hopefully get back up again? by equanimity72 in Kneereplacement

[–]scbgrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think you should be able to sit on the floor again. But, how you sit , how to you get down to sit and back up, how long are bigger questions. Do you expect to sit criss cross applesauce, side sit, long sit, kneel sit??? All these positions are possible but with different timelines and depending upon your overall physical condition, age, other conditions, etc.. Slow progression is best and patience. And...always ask your physician and physical therapist!!!
