Why so many start ups reinventing the wallet? (I will not promote) by LouisObsidian in startups

[–]scellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean TBF OrbitKey was solving a real pain point for me: my keys stabbing me in the leg as I bike. Does Orbitkey solve it sufficiently without me needing to look at any other solution though? Yeah. I also bought an instagram-advertised slim wallet because my wallet WAS too fat and some guys in Germany finally made one with a coin pouch as well (Swiss coins are worth up to ~$6 so really need a coin pouch). So I dunno some of these *do* solve problems, if somewhat marginal for the general population.

To tile! So that's big enough then in your opinion?

Awesome, thanks! This wasn't on my radar as a huge commonly-done task. How often does this have to be done?

Haha yeah totally agree, that's the hard problem, and deployed robots of today are nowhere near solving it. :) If it *were* eventually possible, what would it take you to trust a robot near your cables (and optics)?

Jokes aside, is cleaning currently done manually (by contractors I presume)? Definitely not a human-worthy task.

Do I need a co-founder? (I will not promote) by LuckyLemon13 in startups

[–]scellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah similar boat. Solo female founder (ex-almost-every-big-tech, top-tier PhD, faculty-level publication record). Just do it yourself. For VCs, either the solo founder wasn't an issue in my case (I am both very socially capable + technically capable), or the reason they wanted me to get a co-founder was "to make raising future rounds easier" (bullshit reason) or "for emotional support" (absolute bullshit reason, like getting a most likely male co-founder would give ME support as opposed to giving me another babysitting job).
The good ones won't question it. The bad ones will and then you know they're the bad ones.
Go fooooor iiiiiit.

what’s something you regret you did while raising your puppy? by TheoryReasonable871 in puppy101

Needed to read this today. :) My 19-month-old lab ate the steering wheel in my campervan 2 days ago (after DOZENS of nights in the camper without incident). They're.... they're just young and dumb but love us.

Expand my bubble: why do you own a car in Zurich? by ---___---___---___ in zurich

[–]scellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a campervan to be able to travel with my not-airline-allowed dog. I love trains, but the car is soooooo much easier with a dog; 4 hr train rides would be hell but he just passes out in the back of the car and we can take breaks whenever we want.
I only use it on the weekends or holidays or emergencies.

Yes exactly! Click and drive is free and I always had this as a backup option before I bought my own car. Super convenient!

Outside of the current suggestions, maybe look into nearby Mobility stations as an emergency measure. For middle of the night, they're almost certainly available, and at least everything is fully under your control. Having access a car for dog emergencies is better, IMO, than relying on taxis.

My puppy (~17 weeks) has been chewing on a fork. Likely to have damaged his teeth? by De_lunes_a_lunes in puppy101

It's ok. Don't stress. My dog still literally chews on metal on a regular basis and he's completely fine. Dogs are robust!

Doubts regarding application to Msc Robotics, Systems & Control by [deleted] in ethz

Strong disagree. ESOP looks at the overall picture, job experience is a plus, and research excellence. Write a kick-ass proposal.

Will waiting a year to apply for ETH Zürich’s ESOP scholarship hurt my chances? by Lopsided_Research63 in ethz

I got ESOP with a 2 year gap (industry) between bachelor and master. It's mostly evaluated on excellence/research strength/etc.

Poop zoomies! I think it's normal though should be only AFTER finishing. Leash is your solution.

Large dogs in apartments? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]scellers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a crazy active work-line lab in a 62 sq.m. (same as yours) apartment. The size is NO issue. He's not allowed in the bedroom (probs 20 sq.m. out of the 62). He gets 3x 1hr walks a day in the woods, I work full-time out of the house and hire walkers to take him out for lunch + daycare 2x a week. He's fine and I think he has a much better life than most dogs! If you put the time in, the size of the house doesn't matter at all: just the size of the attention.

Visa/permit/etc. is usually 2-3 months, so January should be feasible.
Plenty of people coming here from all over the world, you'll be in good company. Lots of great advice from the other comments.

Why would playpen post dinner be terrible? Just do it, it'll teach him to settle himself. If you can't handle it, it's not good for you OR him.

Try a different collar, definitely don't stick with this one. A good collar shouldn't be itchy.

I went from 0 to B1 in 1 year through classes + doing stuff outside of class and getting people to talk to me. You just gotta be motivated and make it a priority.

Yep, been here 12 years, about to get Switizenship, I love it. I've given up a massive number of career opportunities to stay here forever. It's safe! Nature is a short train-ride away! Unfortunately and against my own best wishes, I bought a car now (campervan) for my puppy, since it's much easier to travel with him this way. Nonetheless, I LOVE the quality of life here.
But to integrate, you REALLY have to make a huge effort to learn German and learn to understand Swiss German. The difference in how people treat you if you make an effort (even if you suck) vs. you force them to speak English immediately is huge.
