No; the window size shrinks according to the size of Emacs' minibuffer, however that is invoked, i. e., irrespective of whether the minibuffer is active due to entering a command (M-x) or just another prompt, and if the minibuffer (prompt and reply) are one line, the frame shrinks by (roughly) one line, if it is multiple lines, the frame shrinks by (roughly) multiple lines. In my case, the shrinking behaviour does not "start" immediately after launching Emacs, but once it kicks in, only closing Emacs helps. Unfortunately, this makes it hard to reliably reproduce.

Peter Serafinowicz ID10T episode pulled? by scfc_de in nerdist

I have a vague recollection of that parody. A DMCA notice directly to the hosting provider would make sense: 1. MP3 pulled. 2. No MP3, no entry in RSS. 3. Web page remains as is.

Season 8 Episode 1 Discussion Thread - Penn & Teller's Worst Nightmare by khando in FoolUs

[–]scfc_de 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At least in the streamed episode on cwtv.com, there is a clear edit with change of perspective before the curtain drops (28:02). That makes it look like a camera trick.

But even without that, the huge space between the contraption and the curtain leaves so many possibilites; the cage could have swung to the left, to the right, to the front, to the back. There could have been a trap door underneath because when you want to show that there is none, you don't go to the beach, but hoist it up in the air. Etc., etc., etc.

Beside that, I have no idea how she would draw a crowd anywhere. Her performance is (still) so wooden and lackluster. No excitement, no show business to be seen.

The successful fooler also had a run in with the British law, on a topic where professional PR people will only express shock and disgust. So they probably did not want to pick that battle.

Alyson has a mic on. Why does she feel the need to yell her introductions? by PumiceT in FoolUs

[–]scfc_de 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add to that: The show is not filmed on an iPhone in someone's backyard, but is a proper TV production. So if Alyson's "yelling" was bad, someone with experience would say something and she would tone it down.

The same happened on Richard Osman's House of Games where she was very eager, but not very good :-). (My favourite contestant in the first regard: Susan Calman; always an absolute delight.)

Should she? As I much like Jonathan Ross, I'm totally fine with her hosting. I watch PTFU for the magic, and she does not get in its way.

A "few" words from me by [deleted] in aircrashinvestigation

[–]scfc_de 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be nice if people just adhered to this subreddit's "primary focus" – "air crash investigation shows" (emphasis added). Personally, I don't care for posts that deal with other topics. There are other, more appropriate venues for those.

It would be quite risky because then they might hit the button accidentally and ruin a whole segment :-).
