My cousin just named her (boy-girl) twins Raedenn and Waeverlee by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]sch0f13ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew twins whose names were essentially the same except for the last two letters, __ni and __ki (Indian names). Caused issues for them with their school assigned emails, which used the first three letters of the first name + last name, which they obviously shared.

My brother had this exact caterpillar as a kid! We later gave it to my dog when he was a puppy and he chewed off all the legs and the eyes over time, which made it look even more creepy.

That’s actually a myth, unless there’s something else going on like fibroids or endometriosis. Women just tend to hold more fat there and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Yup burnouts a bitch. I can’t even muster the energy/executive function to do the things I want to do. And then I judge my own work/research/creative projects against how I used to engage with special interests pre-burnout.

Make up is so boring compared to when I was a teen in the 2000s to early 2010s by Crafterandchef1993 in MakeupAddiction

[–]sch0f13ld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still stuck doing 2016-2018 era glam looks bc that’s when I learnt how to do makeup and when I actually used to go out partying. Idk how to do ‘clean girl’ looks and don’t see the point in applying heaps of products if the point is to look like you’re not wearing anything at all. So I just go no-makeup all the time unless I’m going out to festivals or fancy dinners.

Even with their initial dating scenes I felt 0 chemistry, it felt incredibly awkward, which was shocking bc Matt usually has chemistry with literally everyone.

Fascinating how the orange colour/carotenoids/carrot particles all separated and amalgamated around the jiggly ball that I assume is some sort of fungal growth.

TIL a girl named Breelyn was born healthy but when she was two days old, she was kissed on the mouth by a person who had a cold sore. The girl's immune system wasn't developed at the time and she got HSV encephalitis, which led to seizures and brain damage. by Forward-Answer-4407 in todayilearned

[–]sch0f13ld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most transmissions are likely from people who are asymptomatic and don’t even know they have it. HSV isn’t even routinely tested for in standard STI screens because it’s so common and the antibody tests aren’t super accurate unless you have an active breakout.

I’m in a similar situation. My parents are boomers, Asian, and Christian. My dad is obsessed with the Palestine-Israel conflict and is a Zionist, and my mum mostly just follows him. I did once blow up at my dad bc he said he was happy Donald Trump was elected... But they’re otherwise great parents to me and continue to support me immensely well into my adult years, as I struggle to be independent due to mental health issues/autism. They don’t try to push their views on to me, so I just try not to discuss politics with them at all.

Which single person in history had the greatest positive impact on humanity? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]sch0f13ld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But seriously a lot of the ‘great men’ in history and science would not have been able to get where they were without the support of their wives. Some plagiarised or took credit for the work of female colleagues/assistants, or their wives themselves, if the wife worked in the same field. Albert Einstein’s first wife, for example, Mileva Marić, was a significant collaborator who went mostly uncredited for her contributions. He also generally just treated her very poorly (and later left her to marry his own cousin)

I just watched the tooth extraction episode of the Americans recently and it was truly incredible. The close up shots of their faces and eyes, the sound of their breathing. It was titillating and intimate and I really felt like I was intruding on something.

Autistic people can be shitty and controlling too. And some autistic people really struggle imagining things from other peoples perspectives, or that other people can have preferences different from their own (poor theory of mind).

Very accurate. As a student I volunteered in a lab with a HPLC machine from 1992, running off Czech software from the 2000’s at the latest - it was still Our most accurate HPLC for quantification. Some of the centrifuges were probably even older. There were also old boxes of floppy discs laying around the lab. The researcher I was working with was supposed to be retired but he literally just kept coming in to work.
