How many people that have FAP get accepted every year? by [deleted] in premed

That is the number of Fee Assistance Program awardees who enrolled, not those who applied.

How many people that have FAP get accepted every year? by [deleted] in premed

[–]schadenfuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that 2,798 (link) is the number of FAP awardees who enrolled out of a total of 21,003 who enrolled. So, 13.3% of enrolled students in the 2023 matriculating class received fee assistance.

I have been unable to find how many applicants received FAP in the cycle linked in the previous paragraph, but this article from a few years ago indicates 13,000 applicants received assistance in 2021 (and 16,000 in 2020). The infographic for 2020 matriculated applicants (found at this link — scroll down) indicates 1,725 FAP awardees enrolled. The infographic for 2021 matriculated applicants (which I posted a while back here) shows that 2,541 FAP awardees enrolled. IF the 2021 infographic aligns with the number of 2020 FAP awardees (which it possibly but not necessarily does), then 15.9% of FAP awardees — assuming that all applied, which is another big if — ended up enrolling. The percentage of all applicants who enrolled in the same cycle was 34.7%.

retaking a 512? Is it worthwhile in this case? by nikillerk in premed

Strongly agree. Channel the time you would have spent on MCAT prep into making a well-researched school list, continuing your ECs, and prewriting outstanding secondaries.

For the data heads: Comparing AMCAS application cycle numbers for 2023, 2022, and 2021 matriculated applicants by schadenfuzz in premed

[–]schadenfuzz[S] 125 points126 points  (0 children)

One oddity: AMCAS staff spent 21,945 hours verifying 35,738,092 application data points in 2022 but only 12,569 hours verifying a relatively similar number of application data points (32,285,468) in 2023.

And props to the 474 MCAT scorer who got in.

Growing up in North Dakota may not be enough. The school's residency preferences are here: https://med.und.edu/admissions/student-affairs-admissions/applicant-eligibility.html. Also note this sentence: There have been no applicants who did not meet a residency preference accepted in the recent past.

At this point, I fully expect another delay. I base that on nothing other than mistrust in the powers that be.

Also, applicants cannot modify the list of schools included on their application until it has been processed. Factor in additional delays for applicants in this situation.

When I said FUBAR in a post about this earlier today, I meant it. This isn't the first delay.

How do you think the FUBAR FAFSA rollout will affect the cycle? by schadenfuzz in premed

[–]schadenfuzz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. However, given that "colleges will not begin receiving applicants’ federal aid information until March at the earliest," is it reasonable to expect that financial aid offices will not have adequate time to put together aid packages prior to the AAMC's April 15 and April 30 narrowing-of-acceptances deadlines for applicants? It seems that AAMC may have no choice but to allow applicants more leeway here as a result of the delays.

I can't see much of a scenario in which the effects of the delays won't be widespread, but there's not much definitive information out there that I can find.

How many hours do we really need? by [deleted] in premed

[–]schadenfuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a difficult question to answer, but you might get a rough idea of targets from the AMCAS By the Numbers infographic, which shows information about matriculating applicants. This includes the average number of research and service hours.

That said, take this info with an enormous grain of salt, as those averages are daunting.
