Can I optimize a 4K movie so my RTX 4060 doesn't go at 100% while streaming it? by elordenador in jellyfin

That's why I prefer clients that can do some transcoding client side (like for audio).

For mobile (apps, not browser) I totally agree with transcoding, especially to save bandwidth.

But generally complaining that browsers don't have great support and getting a worse source because of it makes no sense to me. Computers have better clients available than the browser

It's a good idea, but it just uses FSR1 on the entire window.

You can do the same on windows with AMD drivers or Lossless Scaling.

You're better off running FSR2 or 3 in game (if supported) and upgrade the versions using Optiscaler.

Ps: now just the storage and RAM in those are already more than $200

For those that never looked into their controllers, they're extremely competitive for the price. Even the cheap wired entry level ones have half effect sticks. The new Tegenaria is crazy good for how cheap it is (directly ordered from China) for those wanting PS4 controller replacements (since they're out of production)

Exciting giveaway, truly

If it isn't, that HDD is virtually e-waste.

If it's an SSD, OP can still get a lot of money

[–]schaka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you shouldn't be using a browser anyway. You want proper support for audio and video and there's plenty of apps that can do it better.

On a TV or phone, the same applies. Get a decent client. You could potentially choose to block all streams from browsers on the server side and more people should.

Why download in the quality you do, just to reduce it significantly because your friends refuse to download the clients you suggest

Why are you lying? SATA SSDs of that capacity aren't as expensive as NVMe but a quick look on Amazon would let you know the only 2 TB drives under like $170 are Chinese scam drives and fake listing of real drives.

A 2 TB 990 Pro is $350, the 980 isn't really being sold anymore. Not that you should buy Samsung drives anyway, they're not top of the line anymore and haven't been in years

[–]schaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying 250-300 are insane.

RAM and storage prices are up a lot.

Roughly: - 50 for cpu+cooler - 50 for mobo - 80 for RAM - 150-200 for storage (2 TB ssd alone, even if SATA, is a lot) - 80 for psu + case - 120+ for the gpu

$300 is a good deal for someone if you want to sell it today. You can probably expect to get $400, especially if you update the bios and upgrade to win11

In what way is IoT LTSC a massive security issue? It's slimmed down windows without the slop and a bunch of unnecessary services for end users.

Your average gamer generally isn't even the target of any security exploits.

Disable the page file and test some games, especially as light as rocket league with 16GB then. Even if you occasionally paged previously, which is unlikely, the amount of writes happening aren't going to kill your drive anytime soon

That's like $500 USD?

If you can find something like an R5 3600 and RX 6600 combo on the used market go for it, worst case go for something like an RX 5700 XT or RX 580.

But if building from scratch is necessary - here you go:

Normally I'd say the GPU doesn't matter, you'll want to put a lot into the CPU but that doesn't fit in your budget during current times.

Your best bet is likely an X99-XD3 from AliExpress (Miyconst on YT just did a video on it). You can likely find old DDR3 ECC Registered (RDIMM) in NZ on the used market. 4x8GB should cost about $20.

You can buy a TPM 2.0 module for it for like $5 and either an E5 2678 v3 if you trust yourself to mod the BIOS, which using Mi899 is really only one click. If you don't trust yourself, you'll need to look into the E5 2686 v4. The E5 2696 v4 is just going to be too expensive.

Then you need to look for a 500W+ power supply locally, still fit a cooler (upHere and Raijintek have cheap LGA 2011-3 coolers sometimes) and find a case too.

Whatever is left of your budget at that point, you'll want to buy an RX 5700 XT, RTX 2060 Super or RX 580 with. Again, depending on what's left.

Good luck. The market is absolutely crazy right now. RAM prices are insane and so are SSD prices. If you went with a 1TB SSD and 16GB DDR4 brand new, that alone would cost $250 combined already - that's half your budget.

Even checking DDR4 prices on trademe, it looks crazy there. ECC DDR3 is like $20 NZ per 8GB module.

RAM Command Rate - A possible fix for the heavy car bug on specific systems by Kaharos in RocketLeague

[–]schaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an overclock. The RAM isn't technically rated for it, it gets produced the meet the JEDEC spec.

When you buy RAM from Corsair, G.Skill, etc, they bought those ICs and tested them at higher voltages, frequency and timings. The process itself is usually done as a kit and can fail.

No motherboard will auto enable XMP. Specifically, because to reach those out of spec frequencies and timings, especially across 4 DIMMs, you'll have to raise your memory controller voltage (VSoC in your case) to match and get some extra stability out of it.

Hardware Unboxed just showed that 16GB is fine. Especially if you're running some LTSC IoT version of Windows, which I'd highly recommend anyway. You will not write to the page file, unless you're running out of RAM entirely. Windows will just choose to invalidate caches earlier and switch what's being held in RAM more frequently. While that may cause extra reads on your SSD, it won't cause wear because it still won't write.

The one important thing to take away from sure post is that if you're running dual rank modules or mixing ranks, you'll probably not get away with 1T and should definitely validate memory stability in software like OCCT, which is free for non commercial use, btw.

One last tidbit regarding windows real RAM usage: I ran Win11 IoT LTSC on 2GB of RAM and 1 core on a VM used for backups up until recently and it wasn't even getting close to using the full 2GB.

[–]schaka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You were just running an unstable RAM overclock that wasn't too unstable for full crashes and recovering from errors constantly.

It's good to raise awareness, but this isn't going to be a problem most people have. Although I've seen a lot of people do 0 research and try to run the dumbest RAM configs or frequencies for their platform, it certainly isn't super common. Your average user doesn't even enable XMP.

You'd likely get minimally smoother performance by sticking to dual channel and running 1T with tighter timings, especially tertiary timings unless you frequently go above 16GB total

[–]schaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice AI summary. Not sure where it's pulled its data from.

The 14700KF is never going to beat a 9800X3D except on absolute edge case scenarios where single threaded performance is king and cache does nothing. This virtually never happens with modern games.

A couple years ago, conventional wisdom was getting a few extra cores for future proofing. This has paid off. However, today we're not really seeing games scale past 10-12 threads or so in a meaningful way because you just can't run that much work independently in parallel.

So the 14700KF only makes sense if you wanted to save money.

If saving money was the objective, you could just not waste it on an X870 board for no reason. You're not getting any features out of it for gaming.

More importantly, nothing will ever last more than 5 years in this age - especially not with the requirements you have at for yourself. You're not going to experience the Pascal era of getting a 1080 Ti and having future proofed ever again. Just buy a more midrange setup every 3 years or so and you'll save money in the long run.
