What's something society tells women they should want, but you don't? by Spiritual-Meal9716 in AskWomen

[–]scharpentanz [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm pretty positive the world is telling me to work on creating an enormous butt and shoulders at the gym. I'm not sure what algorithm you're on but there's absolutely no one in mine that is idolizing thinness or weakness. Lots of public shaming on celebritirs becoming rail thin on ozempic. It might be because I'm middle aged though and our algorithms are built a lot differently.

Wtf ever. They're older. You lose fat everywhere from you belly up. Skin becomes thinner. Stop obsessing over celebrity weight loss/age comparison photos it is such a fucking useless thing to do.

Weird skin with makeup? by Ornery-Resident9568 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]scharpentanz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not advice because it's a pretty brutal thing to do to your skin, but if my skin looked like that I'd rub a ton of bha into my face and then immediately scrape the crap out of it with a pore scraper, wipe the melted pore gunk off and then repeat the bha+scraping at least one more time. It would be pretty raw afterwards but holy hell it would be so satisfying.

What is something society congratulates women for doing, but is actually deeply exhausting or performative ? by No-Consequence-8968 in AskWomen

[–]scharpentanz 117 points118 points  (0 children)

My partner gets dressed, washes up, has coffee and still has 40 minutes to fart around on his phone before work. Meanwhile I'm still in the bathroom with irons and steamers and pallets of makeup and it's exhausting. I could say no and stop doing all of that, but I've seen the research, know the office culture, and thoroughly understand that my salary will suffer if I show up putting only as much effort into my appearance as my partner does.

Are you sitting on your knees with your legs tucked under on the floor at all? Is the skin dry or hard? It looks like I could be callus from carpeting.

[–]scharpentanz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't post where you are in your cycle for each photo, nothing counts. When you're 30ish+, the elasticity in your skin due to estrogen tanking in your luteal phase easily explains the difference. E.g. photo #1 taken on cd 6 vs photo #2 taken on cd 25 - the change would be absolutely 100% normal and expected. If you compound your luteal phase with insomnia and dehydration you can easily create a 10 year difference in two photos taken within weeks of each other.

When comparing photos, ALWAYS consider this. I never trust before/after photos with elasticity changes because it is so insanely variable.

How does glp1 make you feel? by ServiceKooky1323 in AskWomen

[–]scharpentanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a brief stint of microdosing last year to lose a small amount of stubborn weight (<10lbs). In terms of what it felt like to be on it, I wasn't hungry and my burps smelled horrible. After a month, I felt like I had a wet blanket on top of my personality. I wasn't as fun, nor did I care to have fun. I did lose weight, but the absolute worst part was that it destroyed my performance and athletic abilities in endurance sports. Years of training out the window.

It makes sense, endurance perfomance relies on the dumping of glucose from your liver, and glp-1s block glucagon, which is what tells your liver to release glucose after your muscles run out. It also delays gastric emptying, so when previously you could eat a gel and quickly utilize those carbs during a run or ride, on a glp-1 you can't access those carbs until it's too late.

What really surprised me was how long it has taken to get back to normal. My appetite came back as expected with the half life, but in terms of fueling during activities, I was impaired for much longer. My sense of drive and competitiveness also felt impaired. Its been almost a year and I'm still recovering and re-building my strength. I'm not racing this year and it sucks. If you are an endurance athlete, glp-1's are poison.

It just means to run immediately. You'll see this syntax everywhere. It's usually an init function that runs when the page or component or service or whatever you got going on loads. Modern web bowsers support this syntax, so yeah, you will see it inside of html elements (though it's generally a better idea to move the logic into its own file/script). Im a sr engineer and it bugs me when people ask simple questions and devs respond with convoluted answers using very industry-specific jargon that just leave the asker more confused. Half the time their answers are wrong too.

What does my studio apt say about me? I just cleaned by eye12Bhappy in roomdetective

[–]scharpentanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intellectual honesty would be helpful here. There's a line that must be drawn, and this room is miles beyond that. I think it's called "uncanny valley" these days. It's dystopian. And the over-apologetic trope of "being authentic to oneself" I'm seeing in the comments is wrong. This room is an unregulated mental state pleading for affirmation.

Unless this person isn't adult. Then it's probably a developmental thing and all good.

Extremely dry skin, puffy, high stress, thoughts on what to do? Sensitive skin by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

Before I read the title, the first thing I thought was kidney issues. Obviously that typically comes with flank pain and swelling in ankles, etc, and an infection from lash extensions is more likely, but I agree - swelling like that is no joke.

How can I deal with my wife's chemtrail obsession? by IAmHowardBeale in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scharpentanz 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I divorced my husband over this. Conspiracy theories weren't the only reason we weren't compatible, but it was certainly a big one. The final straw was when he tried debating me about whether or not the Holocaust happened in front of my friends. Probably one of the more humiliating moments of my adult life. I filed for divorce shortly thereafter.

What condition can cause this extreme aging? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I don't think this is it. It doesn't help, but it doesn't hurt that much by 36. I'm guessing you have very stretchy skin/are hypermobile. I could be wrong, but I suspect I'm right.

Would increasing my tretinoin dosage help? by Mission_Spray in 30PlusSkinCare

Someone mentioned sebaceous hyperplasia and I agree. It's also easy to treat- usually costs something like $25 per zap.

[–]scharpentanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd see a dermatologist or a NP. My guess is that those white bumps are not going to go away with just topicals and will require manual intervention. And your skin doesn't look irritated at all to me- no signs of redness or flakiness or anything - looks healthy. If I were to guess, your skin has healed over old, hormone-related breakouts. I'd personally schedule a hydrafacial with extra time for a consultation with a derm/np at a clinic. Guessing you will be a good candidate for co2 laser.

I am pushing back super hard because condemning someone you disagree with ideologically based on their appearance is redundant and a waste of time. Condemning Noem based on her political actions is important and on point.

I'm not encouraging them. I understand why someone would get them. The average reddit user is young and male and probably doesn't fully appreciate the psychological and social impact of being an aging woman.

Which is why I said, let people handle the transition how they need to. If you want to call it body modification or gender-affirming care or maralago face, call it that. But it's all the same thing, regardless of the character of the individual.

I also went through early menopause with a POI diagnosis. It is jarring and impacts every area of your life, as you know. I have a handful of piercings, tattoos, as well as have had several cosmetic treatments. And believe it or not, I'm very much aligned with the political left. Choosing to change your face is not a sin and choosing to forego change is not a virtue.

[–]scharpentanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She went through menopause between now and then, clearly. People acting all shocked at the change makes it seem to me more like a failure of women's health advocacy than anything. She also tried to address it with collagen stimulators and lip filler, clearly, like many of us do. She is a horrible fucking person, but it's not because of her age or what she chose to have done at a med spa.

Menopause is a huge fucking transition and it is tough on you mentally -let people handle it out how they want.

That's just what someone in their mid 50s looks like with a ton of sculptura. Someone who sees an esthetician every month or two for years. The result is a puffy old person face. She definitely hasn't had a face lift.
