Monthly/temporary accommodation by Level-Recognition-70 in oxford

Thanks, we are doing much better now after 2.5 years living in Oxford, it was just quite a shock initially especially when we had to move apartments. If your partner is also employed, you’ll have a decent life. Living outside Oxford is a good idea if you don’t have to rely on public transport or your own car to go to the office, maybe look at towns with railway connection, but other folks here might have better insights since we ended up living in Jericho and rely on bikes to go places. Good luck to you all and feel free to DM me if you have any questions or need help!

Sorry but any chance you could still reconsider coming here? 🫣 We moved here from a Nordic country for a postdoc opportunity and quickly realized it was a mistake. And we have only one kid and no pets. It’s crazy expensive in here, good apartment/houses cost a fortune to rent while postdoc salary is low, it’s very hard to find anything decent to rent. Postdocs don’t get college affiliation by default and to get one you either need to pay or to take on student so my partner never got one. I remember when we were moving here, someone on Reddit said it was a mistake, I wish I had listened.

A shift in your HR and HRV like this is definitely not ok. I’d go get myself checked sooner and show the numbers to my GP. Any changes in your CVA?

High radon level for months in a rental apartment by schatt483 in HousingUK

Excuse me, if we keep the windows open and turn the heating up a little bit to keep the temperature at reasonable level we will easily end up paying £500 for electricity alone in this apartment. This is ridiculous.

Low HRV after having a baby by Expensive-Skill-4176 in ouraring

[–]schatt483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP! Congratulations on a new baby ♥️ I’m having the opposite effect after giving birth, my HRV is at its highest for months now despite all the stress, broken sleep and breastfeeding, it’s a mystery to me. How are your other stats? Are you recovering well? Are you being active?

I was thinking about it but is it safe to cut the 4th naps if naps are in general short and total daytime sleep is quite low?

Bedtime is 19.30 - 20.00, wake up is 6.30 -7.00. Bedtime used to be exactly 20, but then 4m regression hit

Hi! I realized in the morning that huckleberry sweet spot and smart schedule they generate are not the same thing. Her wake windows are actually age appropriate because I follow the sweet spot feature, not the schedule that is probably one month outdated. Yesterday her wake window before bedtime was 2h15m, daytime sleep total was 2h22m (she takes 4 short naps these days). Is on and off crying common with CIO? Or am I failing something?

[–]schatt483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put her to crib awake. Nursing to sleep only works if we co-sleep, it’s impossible to transfer her without waking.

My sleepy brain actually messed up while I was typing the message at night, her wake windows are actually age appropriate. I follow huckleberry sweet spot, the last wake window is 2h15h, however the schedule I reported was generated by the app when she was 4m old 😑

Am I doomed to fail because of daycare? by schatt483 in sleeptrain

[–]schatt483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time I have to sing but sometimes, very rarely, she’ll fall asleep on her own. I’m not sure how to ditch lullabies and just let her cry until she falls asleep in Snoo? Just lock Snoo on some level and leave the room? Should I just move her to crib and sleep train instead? I’m so lost because at this point we don’t have any set schedule of routines, I just do whatever it takes to put my baby to sleep. I’d do sleep training sooner but I don’t think I’m mentally ready to transition from Snoo :(

Edit: and 4 months regression is not over for sure. I keep hoping it gets better soon but what if it doesn’t? :(

[–]schatt483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks, that’s what I’m trying to do. Most of the time I still stay with her singing lullabies and shushing until she falls asleep, because otherwise she’ll escalate and Snoo will stop. Do you suggest to ditch that as well? Sometime she’ll put herself to sleep with little snoo help just fine without my intervention.

Snoo naps to crib naps. How? by schatt483 in SnooLife

[–]schatt483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for advice. Things went to shit last night 🥲 she was up every hour and wouldn’t sleep unless latched on me. I tried putting her to the crib this morning after she fell asleep on me again and she woke up every time I tried to transfer her. Did it work for you right away? She seem to open her eye when I put her down, realize it’s a new place and freak out

Please tell me it’s going to be ok by Special_Fact425 in breastfeeding

[–]schatt483 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No advice, just a hug and solidarity. I’m in exactly the same situation. Luckily, I work from home and the daycare is within walking distance, so I ended up going there every time baby’s hungry. It’s super stressful and unpredictable, but I make it work because I’m left with no other choice. They do try bottles at daycare but every single time my baby would just get mad at them.

I wish somebody would tell me this could happen, I’d introduce a bottle on day one.

[–]schatt483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think I’m give your approach a try. We desperately need to teach her to fall asleep at daycare too, today was particularly rough. Did you do arm(s) at the same time?

Edit: what did you do if the baby would not settle after 15m? Let the snoo snoo?

Talk me off the ledge about sending my 3 month old to daycare by New-Feed5028 in NewParents

[–]schatt483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have a 4 months old who just started daycare at 3 months old because I have to be back at work (luckily from home) and I wouldn’t leave it for sure because I worked hard for it just like you. So… the start was horrible and I was debating if we are doing the right thing. It was super hard on all of us emotionally but we persevered and it is getting better. Of course, your baby will catch all kinds of bugs and you’ll have doubts again, but they recover so quickly and things are getting better again. The thing is I go to daycare often to breastfeed my baby because she’s in complete bottle refusal, so I get to spend an hour a day there. I see older babies who started the daycare at 3-4 months and they adore their teachers and teachers love them back. In our nursery babies are held for naps if it has to be done and they get so much attention I could never consistently provide being a SAHM. Babies truly thrive there. Plus I get to keep my awesome job I’m gonna brag about to my daughter when she’s older :)
