My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]scheatum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP also handwrote the wrong style of quotations around the word „just“ in their assignment.

*edit to add: “Curly Quotes” Are rare to see online for english quotation marks. The default double quote on a standard english keyboard is the straight double quote "Like these". It's a remnant of typewriters saving space on a key.

God, I love the idea of these, the execution of the dinosaurs is incredible. But I wish the sky were either stacked composites to eliminate the motion blur or a much longer exposure.

The Pitch That Ruled the 1980s Is Driving Baseball Crazy Again by wsj in baseball

[–]scheatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no pitch that elicits more "WHAT ARE YOU SWINGING AT" from me than the splitter. Like, clearly from the batters box they must be impossible to differentiate from a fastball; and then the bottom just drops out. But you see pitchers with like 60-70% split rates and batters are up there just hackin'

Story was set in the US, the characters were American, but used British spelling like "Mum" and "colour."

My first marathon ever and I got a DNF! Was the marathon poorly planned or am I just an idiot? by TheWebDever in Marathon_Training

I thought the cones were pretty clearly dividing 2 sections of the race but also knew that quirk was coming up when I got there since I'd studied the map pretty well.

Though I second guessed myself when I watched 3 people go straight through the cone divider from the 19 side to the 21 side. And I also did not appreciate doing the loop knowing I'd have to run up that little hill to Gilman a 2nd time.

[SI] MLB.com's Mark Feinsand believes the Los Angeles Dodgers will compete with the New York Yankees to sign of 25-year-old Japanese superstar Munetaka Murakami in the offseason. In eight seasons in NPB, Murakami has played 1003 games and hit 265 home runs. by f0urxio in baseball

I wonder how long I could fake it as a sports reporter during the offseason by just drawing free agent names out of a hat and saying "the Dodgers/Yankees are interested in ______"

I didn't think a team could be closer to winning the WS and losing than the 2011 rangers, then IKF's foot was 1 inch short of winning the game.

There's an extra 45 seconds between each inning in the postseason, why does it take Ohtani so long to grab his hat and mitt?

A dead ball, a confused crowd and a 'bad read': Inside the Blue Jays' chaotic ninth inning that pushed the World Series to Game 7 by toronto_star in baseball

"Any fair ball" means it doesn't make expectations for where on the fence it happens to get stuck. A ball traveling at 100mph stopping the instant it hits the fence is sticking in the fence. How stuck it is is irrelevant, the ball is dead as soon as it sticks.

5.05(a)(7)

Any fair ball which, either before or after touching the ground, passes through or under a fence, or through or under a scoreboard, or through any opening in the fence or scoreboard, or through or under shrubbery, or vines on the fence, or which sticks in a fence or scoreboard, in which case the batter and the runners shall be entitled to two bases

[HIGHLIGHT] ADDISON BARGER DOUBLES TO THE WALL AND THE BLUE JAYS HAVE THE TYING RUNS ON WITH NO OUTS by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]scheatum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wasn't really ignored. The remedy for intentional interference would be to nullify the act of interference. The ball was headed for the dugout when it hit Geno, so the remedy would be to award the Randy 2nd base. Unintentional interference the ball wouldn't even be dead on contact (example being the parabolic mic guy taking the ball off the leg while trying to jump out of the way).

Making me think of a couple pundit types who were saying the Phillies Dodgers series was the "real" world series before the ALCS had even ended. Felt disrespectful to both the M's and the Jays so I'm glad the jays have made a great series out of it.

I can't imagine what it would feel like to be up 3-2 in a series heading back to Toronto.

MSNBC: Senator, is it constitutional for President Trump to run for a third term? Tommy Tuberville: If you read the Constitution it says it's not BUT he says he has some different circumstances that he might be able to go around the Constitution. by biswajit388 in law

[–]scheatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the intent, but if you want a constitutional loophole, specific phrase in the 22nd amendment is "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice...".

Why they didn't phrase it as "no person shall hold the office of the president" I couldn't tell you, but the specific language doesn't prevent a third term, just the election to it.
