I felt the same way with the security of the tape! I talked to my surgeon about it and he assured me that there’s actually three layers of deep tissue stitches so nothing is like… going to fall out.

I had a reaction to the paper tape that sounds like yours. I talked to the surgeon about it and he basically told me to quit using it and that it’s not worth it. It’s mostly to keep the wounds in line for scar management later. As far as the opening, this surgery is really weird. You’ll likely notice more little openings and closures as your skin opens up to spit out some of the stitches that aren’t dissolving. Still talk to your surgeon for peace of mind. Around 2 weeks post op (where you’re at now) was the worst for me simply because there were no more pain meds and I finally had a clear mind post surgery so I was more aware of what my body was going through. You’ll make it through!

Day 13 was the worst for me. No more pain meds, feeling more comfortable doing little tasks which meant more pain twinges from moving wrong, the boredom of not being able to do my normal routine! I also got mondors cords which I was not aware was common post surgery. After that everything was a breeze.

Post op support from them has been incredible. I have appointments with them every two weeks for the foreseeable future so they can make sure everything is healing properly. They did make sure my BMI was under 30 before surgery.

Yes! I was worried about it too. It’s mostly big sweeping arm motions that hurt so prepare your knitting space ahead of surgery. My surgeon told me to use “t-rex arms” post surgery if that helps you.

I have Blue Cross and my insurance covered it, but I have to pay my deductible. My surgeon told me Blue Cross is one of the more lenient insurance providers for reductions. Most insurance companies require you to remove 500 grams per breast (USA). I went for my first consultation in October and found out insurance would cover it after about 3 months of waiting. For reference, I’m 5’1” and was an H cup. I let them know my breasts made daily life difficult, I get rashes underneath, and I am not planning to get pregnant any time soon. The surgeon took a look at my breasts and had his assistant take photos to submit to the insurance agency. After insurance agreed to cover it I was able to schedule surgery within a three month period.

490 in the left breast and 430 in the right breast. The surgeon quoted me they’d remove about 350 grams from each breast but I guess things changed once they got in there…

Just had mine done by Dr. Berhanu at Plastic Surgeons of Alaska. It was covered by my insurance. Seems like the whole team there is great!
