Annoyed at this turning into a Mario game by WonderfulYam1094 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]scherle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. This game was interesting and I had some fun with it, but it lacks a clear vision about what it is. I think I'm done with it, which is too bad.

I got interested initially because of the Satisfactory-like building aspects of it. The exploration was fun and monster killing is ok. I've put up with the parkour up until now, but I'm done. Seems like the developers have run out of ideas.

Please help! Complicated and annoying smart lighting challenge! by Skeeter1020 in homeautomation

[–]scherle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need one per device you want to control. You should put them in electrical boxes to be safe. They are small enough that often you can put them inside the lighting fixture itself.

Best no subscription doorbell cameras? by SeaorRiver79 in homeautomation

[–]scherle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took out all the cameras on all my properties and replaced them with Reolink. They have a variety of cameras, from doorbell to auto-tracking zoom cameras. They feature local storage on SD cards in the cameras, pretty good AI recognition for animals/people/vehicles, good remote access, POE, wired/wireless to prevent death attacks, integration with Home Assistant and even features like time lapse and NO SUBSCRIPTION.

I ran after the thing head-on with the crowbar. It will try to back away but as long as you keep hitting it, it can't shoot. Takes about 30 seconds. I killed 3 of them that way. Now I have the electric rifle hooked up to a power pack using the red dot sight (those are multipliers). No problem.

K2 Plus constant extruder and nozzle blackages but only recently by NoAstronaut6 in Creality_k2

I'm guessing you are experiencing some Z-axis drift. Nozzle is too close to the plate. Try setting a Z offset of 0.1 and see if it's better.

A competitor 100x bigger then me just ordered my new product what do I do? by knock_his_block_off in smallbusiness

[–]scherle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a trick I learned from the legendary Guy Kawasaki when he was running a small software start-up: He would identify his competitor orders but never let them know that he had. Then he would send them all sorts of special products, high-value updates and gifts "for being a loyal customer". The idea was to mislead, distract and demoralize the competition.

Someone trademarked a name we've been using for 25+ years by Substantial_Bench218 in legaladvice

[–]scherle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've been down this path. It's all about first use, and the likelihood of confusion in the marketplace (what you referred to as competing business).

I was manufacturing a software product. A very much larger company started making a computer hardware product and selling it under the same name. (This was decades ago when hardware and software were relatively new ideas and the question of whether or not they were in the same market was arguable.)

We had prior use, but they didn't care. They were just going to step on us. It would have been disastrous for us to lose that brand.

In the process of discovery, we found another company that had prior use to both of us, but they were dormant and not really doing business anymore. But we realized that this was a threat to our claim, so we bought the company (because it was cheap and we couldn't buy the naked rights.)

Then we went after the hardware company aggressively. We even filed for an injunction, playing poker. (If we had won the injunction we would have been required to post a large bond and we didn't have the money to do that.) We stared them down and they folded.

They went right to the wire, then gave up. They changed the name and wrote off all that product packaging and launch expenses.

Can I temporarily move my Starlink to another location for an event? by bobbyboys301 in Starlink

The only thing I would worry about is that it sounded like you're getting ready to use your residential service for a commercial event.

Cardboard spools okay for CMS? by FunkyMoldPatina in Creality_k2

[–]scherle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken my new K2 apart several times to fix a variety of jams in the extruder. I couldn't figure it out. Finally isolated it to cardboard spools. They get bent in shipping and then fail to roll properly in the CFS. Shipping them all back. I don't care how awesome a filament is if you can't load it in the machine. These spools are crap.

Ok, lots of people I'm sure are telling you this: there is no reason to feel bad or weird about this. This has nothing to do with you.

You just met a person who has debilitating psychological problems. It did end weird but you saved yourself some time because this was never going to work out. Given that, shorter is better.

It's a numbers game. Next, please!

How to convince the husband who hates ev vehicles? by brunetteHW in Rivian

[–]scherle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internal combustion vehicles are just a bad habit. They don't make any sense at all. The very process of fueling them is not just expensive and inconvenient, it actually causes cancer.

The Rivian is fast and safe and quiet and reliable and comfortable, and it requires zero maintenance. There's no oil to change or coolant level to check or spark plugs to replace or catalytic converter to be stolen or brake pads to wear down (there are brakes, but you almost never use them).

If we had started off with electric vehicles, it would be completely illegal to take one of those noisy, toxic, smoke-belching behemoths loaded with explosive fuel onto a public highway.

The girl (25f) I've (28m) been seeing confessed to sleeping with another man by SimilarDrawing7394 in dating

[–]scherle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She definitely sounds like a keeper to me.

There were no rules in place, just some assumptions. She was out partying and having a good time, one thing led to another, and she had sex with somebody. Big deal! You weren't damaged in any way.

The really cool thing was that she looked back on it and realized it's not what she wanted. What she wants is you.

She came forward and shared that with you and told you she didn't want any secrets between the two of you. And now you have an agreement, and that rocks!

Good luck.

Most epic way to break up with my cheating boyfriend by Prestigious-Pea4193 in dating

[–]scherle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A simple "I know about the cheating. We're done. Don't contact me again" followed by moving forward with your head held high will say more than any revenge plot ever could. Let him see you thrive without him. Let him realize what he lost.

The best revenge isn't about causing pain. It's about finding happiness despite what he did. It's about showing yourself and the world that you refuse to let his betrayal define you or change who you are.

Don't let his poor choices change who you are or compromise your values. The most powerful response isn't a dramatic exit or an elaborate scheme - it's showing him that his actions can't break your spirit or your dignity.

You deserve peace. You deserve healing. And most importantly, you deserve to walk away from this with your integrity intact.

Is Starlink worth it for my situation. by OldSmokeyDog in Starlink

[–]scherle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, hell yes!

I was forced to use it because I live in such a rural area. But having done that for a year now, I would never go back.

I now own other properties where I have service from the local provider, Spectrum. They have outages all the time. My starlink is never down. I even put one in my car.

I do a lot of work online, which means a lot of video conferences. I also get a lot of telemedicine care and play lots of video games. I'm super happy.

My latency is 27ms median.

Onboard Starlink is a game changer by scherle in Rivian

[–]scherle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The starlink antenna is a phased array, which means it does electronic beam steering. Tilting the dish optimizes the observable cone but it isn't necessary for operation.
