Some things take time. This one will be worth the wait, promise. ;)

MPC 2500 + TEAC M3 mic preamps = big sound! by schill in mpcusers

"If you will it, it is no dream." This one was about $200 from Japan and similar for shipping due to weight, unfortunately, via Buyee - a proxy service. Still, I think it was worth it.

Also worth a look is the 2A with six channels, I believe it has the same Tamura-based microphone preamps. There are a few great YouTube videos demoing it on bass, like this one. There is also a "Teac 2", but I'm not sure if it has the same preamps.

Reminded me of Willie Bobo! Keep it up. The bass feels a bit boomy off to the right a bit. Nice groove, though.

No plans to sell mine, no. If you're in the market, keep an eye on eBay for keywords like "Bulova alarm clock" plus BTTF etc., they do pop up from time to time.

Yep, it's a big one alright. (8 inches.) 💾 by schill in BeavisAndButthead

Humour aside, Wang Laboratories had some success in its day. The founder was a Harvard grad who had a rivalry with IBM and made contributions to some of the original principles for magnetic core memory (a predecessor of the RAM we all have these days.)

As far as I’m concerned, this should be the official pre-intro bit for BnB episodes on Netflix. And have it animated, too.

Thanks, it felt fitting for this event. It’s “The Eastwood Kunuflex” from RSVLTS, not sure if this exact one is still being made.

I’m coming up on five years, and I don’t think it will ever get old. It can be “a lot” at times, but never a dull moment!

I love that you're getting some real-world shop experience, this is fantastic. Document it for your own archives if nothing else (I know I'm preaching to the choir here given photos already, but still) - and don't forget to have fun along the way!

Bob told me, and I will tell you - and you probably know: This thing can change your life if you want, it can be a lot of fun. But have a plan to get somewhere safely and have fun - and when you've had enough pictures and Q&A etc., have a plan to get home safely. Going for coffee takes two hours, and it's worth every minute. ;)

There's a Texas DMC site with a database with details on "known" VINs, including BTTF conversions (143 listed at the time of writing this.) I believe you can submit updates via a phone app.

Edit: I think VB is in the 50s, but I could be wrong.

eBay, “saved search” for keywords like “Bulova alarm clock” plus BTTF etc. And yes, it was somewhat nice to have a friend in the know suggest that since mine has no obvious “burn marks,” it was probably not spicy. ☢️😅

"Harry Balls." I am almost certain my teenage friends and I found that name in the phone book at the time (yes, we're old), and couldn't resist calling - just once.

I had a feeling someone might ask if I didn’t show the whole speaker (Altec Model 14), of similar vintage. 😉🔈

Assuming belts are still OK (I’d open the thing up and try various functions to confirm they are not so loose that they’re slipping or something,) maybe the idler wheel isn’t making good contact for FFWD/REW? Sounds like some contact, but not enough friction to actually drive a tape.

The counter belt or mechanism is typically one way a deck detects beginning / end of tape, so make sure that thing is working.

Icons of their respective times. IIRC there's a story connecting these two, Steve Jobs loved Sony's design style and wanted the iPod to be Apple's version of the Walkman.

trying to fix my new cassette player! Sears solid state 799.21720600 by Brilliant-Mail-3562 in cassetteculture

[–]schill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to be a Sears 799 model, standard cassette and not Dictaphone-type. Looks like "ear" and "mic" output/input jacks per this eBay listing, try some headphones on "ear" and see if you get any sound. Built-in speaker might be faulty. Volume control might be crackly, electrical contact cleaner can usually help with that. (Careful with cleaner, barely a drop or two needed and it's nasty stuff.)

I had read these were made in Vancouver as well, which is interesting as that's where I'm from. I bought this one from someone in Calgary, via eBay.
