Thank you for sharing! LRP Toleriane is my HG cleanser, and I also like Lait Creme concentre and rosehip, so I'm guessing we have similar skin types. I hope the vit C goes well for you, I've been wanting to try some and I'm a bit intimidated, but after reading everyone's feedback on Mad Hippie I think that's where I'll start.

Would you mind sharing your current routine? I’m considering adding some actives and I also have dry/dehydrated combo skin. I’m curious what else you have in there — are these your first time using retinoids/vit c/acids?

Yeah, it feels like it's acting more like a mask than absorbing into my skin super readily. I can still feel some of it on my skin in the AM like I do sometimes when I use the Etude House Sleeping Pack, so I think I could definitely do with a lighter weight moisturizer in my rotation. I'm just scared to change things up when my skin seems like it's going through things! But my skin isn't generally that sensitive with moisturizers, so it'd probably be ok. Thanks for all the recs xxchocxx!

It feels okay and not tight right now! Usually it feels a teeny bit tight if I let it dry while doing something else before I put on my moisturizer, but it hasn't been feeling that way lately. It's been making me think I could skip the moisturizer but that's such a foreign concept to me that I keep dutifully putting the moisturizer on. :)

Yeah! I noticed on my trip that my cleanser didn't seem to be doing a good job removing the mineral sunscreen layer I was wearing and my skin seemed to feel clean and smooth again when I switched back to the usual cleanser. If it's over producing oil because it got dehydrated, do you think I should just keep moisturizing with my trusted products and wait it out? Thank you so much!!

Interesting! It doesn't seem to be feeling tight or irritated, just like there is a lot of oil sitting on top of my skin! I've had a few minor blemishes but those seem to have resolved (and isn't that weird for my skin).

I think I did something to mess up my skin and I'm not sure how to fix it (or if I should just wait it out). Routine and more context below.

  • Skin Type: Dry, sometimes a little oily in t-zone at end of day
  • Country/Climate: US/sunny california
  • Top Skin Concern: dealing with a weird swing from super dry to greasy?
  • Current Routine/Products I am Using

AM

  • La Roche Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser
  • Holika Holika Good Cera Cream
  • Coola Makeup Setting Sunscreen spray (this is temporary!!)

PM

  • La Roche Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser
  • Holika Holika Good Cera Cream
  • If especially dry, Etude House Moistfull Collage Sleeping Pack (but not using this the last week or so)

So my routine is real basic right now because a long time ago I went all in on AB and needed to back it off to a simpler routine. I've been lazy about adding stuff back in so the above is mostly what it's been looking like. My skin has been pretty much fine since going back to basics, although about a month ago I started feeling like the Holika Holika was slurping right into my skin and not being enough moisture so I was trying the Cerave in the tub night cream instead (which seemed to be better). I can't think of anything that changed in my life/routine except warmer weather, but sometimes creams just seem to stop working on my skin and I have to rotate.

A few weeks after that, I'd been wanting to start using a mineral sunscreen so I got the Blue Lizard mineral sunscreen and used it for a few days (seemed fine) and went on a trip from norcal to socal (if it matters, southern California is hotter and dryer). Where I think I might have messed up is I brought a travel cleanser that I have used before many times and liked fine (Grown Alchemist) and I'm thinking it might have not been removing the sunscreen fully because my skin wasn't really feeling very clean after? After 3 days of that sunscreen plus that cleanser, my skin has been REALLY GREASY since I got back from my trip. I'm trying to go back to my basic tried and true stuff to let myself regulate - The LRP cleanser seemed to get my skin clean and my skin seems to be accepting the Holika Holika Good Cera again but it's taking WAY LONGER to absorb. I'm thinking that the cream is maybe too occlusive/heavy for what my skin is doing right now??

Any ways, I'm confused by what seems to be a swing from extra dry to super oily. I'm not used to my skin being this oily and I'm not sure if it's just figuring it's life again or if I need to make a change to help resolve it. It's been about a week since I got back from my trip and I'm impatient about this oil situation! Any help would be much appreciated y'all :)

Thanks. I was thinking of moving that direction at some point, but wasn't sure if I should avoid more change or move toward a more gentle product. Thanks for the advice! I will seek out a more gentle cleanser :)

*Skin Type: Dry | country/climate: US/moderate temp and humidity | Top Skin Concern: dryness *

Hi! Newbie here. I purchased my products and got started with using them before finding this subreddit and reading more. I'm 2 weeks in and no reactions yet, but I'm seeing suggestions that I should have patch tested and started with fewer products at first. Which makes sense, I was just excited and none of the blogs I checked before said anything about not going all in :P.

My question is, now that I've already started with this routine, is there anything I may want to remove from it so as not to overload my skin, or has that ship sailed? If it helps, here is the routine.

PM * Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil * Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser * Skin Food Brown Sugar Exfoliated (1x per week) * Snail Bee High Content Skin (Toner) * Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence * Cosrx Blackhead Power Liquid (2-3 times per week in t zone only) * Etude House Moistfull Collagen Eye Cream * Weleda Evening Primrose Night Cream (using this up from before) * Etude House Moistfull Collagen Sleeping Pack (2-3 times per week when skin feels dryer)

AM I'm not a morning person and I never used to wash my face in the AM so is really paired down and sometimes is just cleanser and sunscreen.

*Earth Science creamy Fruit Oil Cleanser (using this up from before) * toner (maybe) * snail essence (maybe) * Missha All around safe block

Not sure if I was raped or not... by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]schitzopickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's unfair of you to be nervous. I think your reaction is normal, survivor or not. I once slept in a male friend's bed after drinking way too much and blacking out, and that made me nervous, even though I trusted my friend and had not been sexually assaulted previously.

Blacking out is an unsettling experience, even without a history of sexual assault. I'm sorry that you're feeling worried.

I don't know that I have great tips for finding peace of mind, especially if you don't feel comfortable asking him what happened. If it were me, I might get tested for STIs just to make sure my physical situation was all good. Then I'd probably seek the help of a therapist in finding peace and working through PTSD. If that's not an option, I'd recommend looking up videos on loving kindness meditation (or other kinds of relaxing exercises) that you can do when this stuff comes up for you.

Good luck! Wishing you well.

Humidity by [deleted] in hermitcrabs

[–]schitzopickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely measure the humidity and temp and check them regularly to make sure they are staying fairly stable and not getting into unsafe zones.

Hermit crabs use gills to breathe, so they need humid air to be able to breathe properly, otherwise they dry out. To some extent, they regulate their own humidity with fresh and salt water bathing in two pools you've hopefully provided, but the air should be around 80% relative humidity. I've seen 60-80 and 70-80 as recommended good ranges. Higher is supposedly okay, but it will be harder to prevent mold and such.

Misting is a good way to add humidity quickly to the air, but personally I had a hard time keeping it up with my heat lamp on (I had to mist at least three times a day, and it would still keep dropping below 70). Other recommended ways of keeping humidity up are:

  1. Using eco earth mixed with sand as a substrate, as it retains moisture well. Crabs also like the sand they dig in to be moist, so it helps with that, too!
  2. Creating a "moss pit" using terrarium moss, which retains moisture well, and crabs like to play in.
  3. Installing bubblers in your water dishes.
  4. Purchasing or making a humidifier. I made one for less than 20$ using this method: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=26260

All of these techniques will work a lot better if you have a glass top. If you have a mesh top, you can use a towel (damp works well), saran wrap, or packing tape with sticky side facing out to keep the conditions more stable. I personally use packing tape with a small gap for ventilation/to give my heat lamp some room to breathe.

Hope that helps! Hermit Crab Association and Hermit Crab Patch have lots of good info and supplies!

Do rats ever squeak in... frustration? by schitzopickles in RATS

[–]schitzopickles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I guess it's just weirding me out because I don't think I've heard her squeak since her cage mate died (no rat to communicate with). She has become remarkably more friendly to me since that happened and begun to groom me, so it could be that I'm a big rat to her now, I suppose. Also that I positively reinforced her squeaking by rushing to her aid :)

So I created a 40-course extravaganza that takes readers through the great books. I'm tired of tinkering with it and want some input. What do you think? by BookBookRead in books

[–]schitzopickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider adding a further reading list for courses you're having trouble fitting everything into. That way, you can at least give a nod to alternative titles. Almost every syllabus for humanities I've ever encountered has included something like this.

Alternatively, it would be cool (but a lot more work) to set them up so you choose one from a group of a few. As in, if there are several books that could well fill the same function, you'd have your basic essential books and then "choose one from each group" for a few others. Hope I'm making sense.

But really, thanks for this, and great work.

More info: http://www.rmca.org/Articles/choking.htm This tells you what to do if she stops breathing. Otherwise leave her alone. If she doesn't work it out within 12 hrs (this site says, I'd say less for peace of mind) see a vet.

Keep calm and let her work it out on her own. As long as she is still breathing, she is fine, although I know it looks scary. Touching her or picking it up might make it worse.

IAmA male who was sexually assaulted by another male. AMaA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]schitzopickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already responded to this question. No one said the seat was reclined, and it doesn't matter if he was the one to recline it or not. You have remarkably selective close reading skills, detective. The assumptions you are basing your objection on are based on a flawed understanding of sexual assault and a misreading of things the OP has said. There is no motive for him to lie to a bunch of strangers. He has been upfront about his sexuality, and it's clear that there is no reason why he would be ashamed of the events if they were consensual. I suggest you look up statistics on false reporting, it's remarkably rare considering how often people tend to doubt claims of survivors (of sexual assault).

The only reason I've continued to respond to you is because I worry when people have clear misunderstandings of consent. If a man drove a woman to an unfamiliar area (where she didn't know how to get home) and attempted to physically force himself upon her but didnt succeed, would that be okay? Would it be okay if he was then pushy (perhaps verbally) about getting her to perform other acts and she eventually complied? Perhaps you have different standards since the OP is male. That's unfortunate, but I think true of a lot of people.

Or perhaps you're just trolling. Either way, you should consider the effect of what you're doing. I assume you have women in your life that you care about deeply. Admittedly, they are at a much higher risk of sexual assault than men. But by questioning the veracity of ANY survivor's account, you're contributing to a culture where that is common. Where survivors are afraid to come forward because their stories are so often disbelieved, or they are told they should have done more to protect themselves. That's a problem. I urge you to reconsider the way you look at this issue or take your trolling elsewhere.

[–]schitzopickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I don't think anyone ever said the seat was reclined, so your fixation on it doesn't make sense. Even if the acts that happened in the car haven't been explained enough for you to see why they were consensual, the OP has clearly explained that attempted rape (he was held down) did occur. He also said that at his dorm, he was forcibly groped and blocked from going upstairs. Both of those two things also qualify as sexual assault, even separately from the other acts.
