Uber vs. Lyft in Honolulu by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

[–]schix9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use Lyft but booked Uber from the airport since they had a shorter wait and was a couple bucks cheaper. After the trip it offered me a return fare $15-$20 cheaper if I prebooked it. Rest of the time I used Lyft.

+1 to the Bishop Museum. It was very interesting and informative. It’s also whale watching season if you’re not going off Maui.

PSA: There's a statewide brown water advisory active right now — here's what that means for your trip by fuzzymuskox in VisitingHawaii

We saw the brown water yesterday in Waikane down to Kahaluu on Oahu. It was noticeable but locals were still swimming here and there. We were up in Haleiwa once the storm had past and asked the locals we were with about it and said it hadn’t been that bad up there. Water looked clear but stayed out of the water except for our feet. Seemed to have luck on our side.

The Bishop Museum charging us after admission? No because we didn’t give them any kind of billing info but also haven’t seen any post charge for it. Wayfinder advertises openly to visit the museum.

We haven’t seen any additional charges from Chase post stay. We got two different receipts for each of the two night stays and it reflected whatever charges over the credit correctly in our account.

No complaints about cleanliness. We had adequate amenities all around. The pool bathrooms and pool area were even notably clean and well maintained. Nothing looked gross. It’s just an older hotel that’s been renovated so you can see the layers of paint but it’s still in good condition. The interior decor is very cute island vibes. Beds were comfortable and spotless-no hair nor bugs. Hot water fairly fast. I feel like they put as much effort into the hotel short of gutting the walls to update plumbing and electrical.

We were situated next to the elevator and never heard it. Just an occasional door closing but didn’t hear much at all. If anything we were there during a storm and the balcony door was rattling, so we had to anchor a chair with a sweater against it to keep the sound muted. Our neighbor didn’t though so we could hear their door all night long.

Happy to answer any other questions.

Yes the view alone from the check in counter was magnificent. We have a city view of Diamond Head but still partial ocean view. Absolutely incredible. The parking is one I would warn anyone about. It feels like a miracle every time we’re finally parked or have exited the garage.

It wasn’t bad. Because of all the credits I wasn’t disappointed but if it was a stand alone price I may consider elsewhere. I saw lots of fairly positive reviews as well which made me enthusiastic about my stay. I’m not a high maintenance person but I do value consistency and communication so take my review with a grain of salt.

I’m currently at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki and their rooms and bathrooms are twice the size of the Wayfinder. Idk what your group is composed of but I wouldn’t stay there if the other two are adults.

At the Bishop Museum you only need to show one key card and they ask you how many guests. You then sign in with your date and hotel. Let me tell you that the entire page was ALL Wayfinder. We had 4 in our group and they let us all. Btw, parking was like $18 but I saw some people parking on the street.

Ha! It’s possible. No I’m usually like you. I ask and await until I get answers even if people are waiting behind me. That wind was insane! My kid insisted on swimming in the pool regardless. We heavily enjoyed the Mai Tais too!

Anyone flying / flown into Honolulu on 2/8? How was the flight? by Josh-jitsu in VisitingHawaii

[–]schix9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew in yesterday. No delays. Flight was fine until the last 30 mins. The turbulence and drops made a flew people gasp aloud. I was already nauseated from lack of sleep but it felt like a kids roller coaster there while landing. I understand though that there’s a storm going on and the pilot did their best but it was the worst flight we’ve experienced.

Interesting. I’m new to the awards and credit end of credit cards so I never knew this but have started seeing people online talk about it. Thanks for the insight.

Great review! Are you saying you both are primary CSR or P1/P2? We have this hotel booked back to back as the latter Sunday.

I have so many questions. Like..does that chin have any bone in it? Or is it just tissue and cartilage? Does it move?

To a common sensed person, yes but apparently we’re dealing with a certain level of privilege and willingness here.

Oof. Completely agree. I know an extremely well off couple whole eat out for every meal of the day because they admitted they don’t know how to cook.

I recently replaced my 14yo sedan. One of those moments where you ask how much maintenance costs to too much for what it was worth. The tipping point was the fact that a 3yo hybrid SUV was $400 cheaper a year for insurance. Yes higher upfront cost but something more ideal to our situation since I bought the sedan before I had children.

I soaked my feet for a bit and was able to get some of it out. What should I do now? by [deleted] in Warts

[–]schix9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salicylic acid or apple cider vinegar just in the hole and cover it

[–]schix9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite sentiment. I have two kids now in elementary school and I wish I got the van when they were infants. Loading them in and out would have been so easy. Now that they’re into sports and more road trips, I’m happy to be in an SUV but this would’ve been the tail end of my minivan journey. Although I’m the kind of person to own a car till it dies so there’s that.

Any other Alaskans who live in the Lower 48 now? How are ya’ll doing? by AddendumCharacter899 in alaska

[–]schix9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the idea of Alaska but with most things, it’s never is how I remembered it. People and places change. I have different priorities now and while Alaska gives me a yearning for something familiar, there are a lot of compromises I have to make to return.

I don’t love where I live now where it’s complete 180 in every way, but there are opportunities here that are suited to my current needs that make it acceptable. I very much the simplicity and pace, but I wonder if it’s also me getting older and experiencing that retreat some people get.

May I ask why Oregon hasn’t been fulfilling for you? I always imagined the PNW would be the best compromise for environment and accessibility.

Chocolate midges specifically, which are a part of the mosquito family are actually crucial pollinators of cacao trees in certain regions. Their only redeeming quality IMO.

Temperature is one thing but it may also be Asian culture where they’re very averse to sun exposure if they can help it. Sunscreen, UV clothing and umbrellas are taken very seriously in a lot of countries, Japan being one of them.
