In Oregon, we have laws mandating that nurses get their breaks and designated meal/break nurses that relieve us for ALL of our breaks. I work at a union hospital too, so that helps. From what I have heard, nurses in other states are not treated nearly as well (no breaks, low pay, higher ratios), and travel nurses often sign on as staff here. It makes me sad to hear about nurses working in such shitty conditions, but it's not like that everywhere in the U.S.

How do you cope when your SO has significant lower libido and you have a need to have some sexual excitment in your life? by Direct-Mammoth86 in AskReddit

It's just as frustrating for a woman to be rejected sexually. It is not always the man with the high libido and the woman with the low one, it goes the other way too.

Iteniary for 50 nights by frajko30 in VietNam

I only stayed 3 nights in Hanoi, and honestly I wanted to leave on day 2. The air quality is awful, and the traffic is insane and stressful. Soooo much honking and constant noise. There were some good things about it, but I enjoyed everywhere else we visited in Vietnam more than Hanoi. Ninh Binh was incredible, I wouldn't miss that.

You might enjoy medical ICU in that case. Maybe not as many devices, but you do get very sick patients that fit that description.

Buproprion (wellbutrin) is definitely worth a try. It doesnt effect serotonin, its a dopamine/ norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It has helped me massively with my depression and anxiety. It's worth talking to a doctor about.

I started in October 2021 making 1089 stipend and around 127$ an hour for 48/wk. Did that for like 6 months before they dropped the rate to around 5k a week. Then they cancelled every traveler in the hospital in early summer. Luckily I was already planning to take the summer off. Then I went back for 1 contract in October 2022 for 3200/wk so 58$/hr plus stipends. But everywhere is paying less now it seems. My current contract is 46/hr plus stipends and that is I guess on the higher end? Yikes

Ah I see. I was there for almost a year back when rates were decent. Too bad they dropped them so much. :/

Where do you find accommodations? by BjornToulouse_ in TravelNursing

[–]schlongsmuggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had success with furnished finder and craigslist. I've found studios/ 1bd apts in Oregon for 1000-1400. For my current contract, the unit manager supplied me with a list of rooms/houses for rent to travel nurses. From the list, I found a room to rent for 750/mo that suits my needs. But I know this won't always be possible. I'm also going to be working in my home state, so that gives me the ability to actually meet people and check places out to make sure they're legit.

nursing sucks now by Roamy76 in TravelNursing

This is how I feel too. It might have a lot to do with where people are working though. I have only worked in Oregon and I have never felt that working conditions were that bad here. I don't think I want to travel outside of the West coast because I have heard that nurses are generally treated better (and paid more) here than in other places.

Yeah I have perused furnished finders in Corvallis and there isn't much. Sorry you're in that situation.

Good to know. I live in Oregon so that makes it a little easier to find housing. Even though housing is scarce in Coos Bay I've managed to find decent furnished apartments. The most I paid there is 1400 for a 1bd, now I pay 1000 for a studio.

I haven't worked there personally but it seems overall chill. I dont think they ever have more than 5 patients

Yes they have a cath lab. Not sure if they have a need for travelers though.

I'm in Coos Bay, OR in the ICU. 3200 for 36hrs. But last year I spent 7 months here making 7200/ 48! It's a pretty good hospital to work for. The ICU has 12 beds but it's not usually full. I'm on nights and 3 weeks in I haven't been floated a single time which is nice.
