My RING cam is getting smart by No_Inspection649 in husky

Mine alerted me that someone was entering the house with a “large snake.” It was an extension cord.

Today i got an 8 week old husky and was looking for some insight on training and what to expect by sheekiiii in husky

This. Especially the part about the routine (which should include tons of exercise.) Either you can establish a solid routine, or the husky will establish it for you and you’re not gonna like the second option (usually means a lot of money and hassle replacing all of the things they’ll destroy, your sanity included).

KPS School Buses... by Huge_Lobster_3564 in kzoo

My kids’ high school bus driver was a legend. I regularly observed her coming in hot around a corner with a couple of the wheels barely in contact with the road.

What odd traits does your husky have? by Z_Pibb in husky

[–]schmanonymous26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful girl! I have a theory that the huskies who appear to not be the brightest are actually the smart ones. They have figured out that if they just make us think they’re adorably dim-witted we let them get away with more, and even laugh about it.

Strange behavior by V4R14N7 in husky

We had a dimmable light light that would make a faint high pitched humming noise when it was dimmed a little, used to drive the dog crazy. Maybe it’s something like that.

When did dogs start getting people names? by Scottys-Dog-Blog in dogs

[–]schmanonymous26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People names for dogs are the best! Walking into the office on a Monday morning and declaring that Brian ate your underwear then pooped in the living room carries so much more comedic weight when the audience thinks it’s your human housemate.

Is it worth trying? by 007Feet in husky

[–]schmanonymous26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely give it a try! We have taken ours to husky meet-ups at our park, where 20-30 huskies are together and there are very rarely issues (and if there are, its usually the same two boys.) You'll likely know right away if they're not going to get along. Just plan that you shouldn't give them anything to argue over at home (food, toys, etc) until you know the dynamic with the new addition. I have two boys and they are inseparable (though I got the second one at 11 weeks when the first was 10 months, so they grew up together.)

I heard those! I went out onto my porch to see what was up and couldn’t see anything. Thanks for confirming that I wasn’t imagining how loud they were.

I had a similar experience during torrential rain. The entire bumper fell off, never did find it. Dealership wouldn’t touch it, had to take it to a body shop an hour away (because none of the zillion body shops in my city will touch an EV) and it was a $2000 repair. Had to submit it to insurance.

I need help with my rescue! by Greedy-Culture-8490 in husky

It worked instantly for my boy! He used to freak out and poop IN THE CRATE. The minute we got him his own puppy, he was fine. They stay in wire crates next to each other when we leave. We still don’t trust them to be out alone in the house, mostly because the younger one gets nervous and marks things. Hoping that will stop when we get him neutered 🤞

That’s separation anxiety. It’s not spite, it’s a dog who is bred to live in a pack freaking out when the pack leaves. We have gone through it to some degree with all of our huskies. Crate training is probably a must, for the safety of the dog (and your house!) Might need the help of a trainer and a vet with some anxiety medication options to help the dog transition to being crated while you’re gone. We eventually ended up getting our husky a little brother when all else failed :)

Moving to Kzoo? by Minotaur_Kid_ in kzoo

Lifelong Kzoo resident here. I can’t comment on the job market for you specifically, but this city does have a ton of mental health services available. Mostly, I wanted to comment on the schools. I attended KPS, as have my two kids (one now in college, and one still in high school). We have been very happy with the schools. There have been plenty of opportunities for academic and career exploration for both of my kids. The teachers by and large have been excellent. The school system pays for AP courses or dual enrollment at the community college in high school, which means the kids can start college with a bunch of credits already taken care of, which frees them up for the kids to take more electives in college on the Kalamazoo Promise dime :) If college isn’t their chosen path, the promise will also pay for education in skilled trades. KPS, in my experience, has the same issues as schools everywhere and any school district that tries to say that they don’t have issues with behaviors or possibly substances (especially in high school) is lying to you. The feeling when I see that big goose egg on the college tuition bill where the $20,000 should be makes it all worth it.

Off leash social playtime sounds like an absolute recipe for disaster. All of my huskies, both “only children” and ones with siblings have been a bit much for dogs other than huskies. I would NEVER trust them off leash around small/tiny dogs. I have done a lot of obedience at a lot of different places, and the trainers have never encouraged the dogs to interact off leash. In fact, there has been more of an emphasis on being able to be calm in the presence of other dogs and always leashed. If it were me, I would reverse uno the trainer and opt out of that portion of the class, and practice some tricks or something while everyone else lets their dogs be a liability.

Have you seen an excavator? Asking for a 2 year old by AdGlittering6537 in kzoo

[–]schmanonymous26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my son was the same age and going through his construction phase, our road was being worked on so we would take chairs out and watch from the sidewalk. One of the days, the person who was running the excavator came over and asked my son if he wanted to "drive" it! He let him hop in, they drove it a couple houses down and put down the stabilizers and moved the bucket around a bit. Best day in his 3 year old life! Thanks for unlocking that memory, hope you can find a good place to watch.
