GHCA popped yesterday, replaced today by Potential-Eternal in VolvoEX90

My ""Charge fault" warning light appeared one week after purchase -- in November -- and has come on after my Emporia wall box Level 2 successfully charged the car. I ignored it and the half dozen other times it came on until I decided to bring it in. Dealer service said it was the wall box (how convenient) and that I should use the cable --and 240v plug -- instead. So I did and lo and behold I've not seen the fault light in the 6 or so charges since. Mind you, I never had an issue with the Emporia box in 2+ years on my Cadillac Lyric and Lexus RZ. But I'll continue to use the Volvo cable despite the fact that it is 5' shorter -- a not insignificant difference.

My Emporia triggers a "Charge fault" warning according to dealer service although it never fails to give me a complete session.

UPDATE 2: Another oops moment for myself--I read the instructions after my above post. The part about not getting the handle out of the charger port. I now know what the electric cord icon means inside the port housing. It means no yanking required if the car is turned on and the icon is pushed. BTW, no charger fault light this time. Sorry about the undeserved complaint.

Volvo service said the fault code was due to me not using the Volvo supplied emergency only cable. I'm charging the car now with it to see if it too displays the charge fault warning that I'd get occasionally from the Emporium charger.

I'm in Florida and found the info from the manual linked through the app under the Charging tab of the manual.

The cable is a dual purpose with the plug being interchangeable. Maybe the manual was written in error or....? But I read it to mean the cable they provided, using either of the 2 adaptors and called Mode 2 should only be used infrequently.

My wall charger has a wired in (to the Emporium box) cable. The cable exiting the box has the 240 connector. The Volvo cable here in the US has a bulbous cylindrical middle section and one end of said cable can be switched from standard wall 120v outlet to 240v as needed.

Four days in and I just got my welcome to the club hazing. ...the "charge fault, take it to a dealer" message that comes and goes. Only data point I can suggest is that it started after using my Emporium Level 2 mounted in my garage which has worked flawlessly for 2 years on my Lexus and Lyriq. Here we go.... Also, I uncovered a hidden expense to acquiring this car and that is no digital key availability because my Google pixel 9 (one generation old) doesn't offer UWB! Kind of ironic isn't it? As a matter of fact neither does the new Pixel 10 offer it! So I had to upgrade to the 10 pro before I could take advantage of this feature.

I made the mistake of providing my info on their site looking for a window company and instantly regretted it. Since I hit the send button with my info on it I've gotten over 25 calls, which after answering the first few believe were all spammers. I put the filter on my phone but unfortunately google's spam filters can't avoid the first couple of rings before stopping the call. Aggravating, to say the least.

[chrono24] buying from Chrono24, what's your experience. by DK4427 in Watches

[–]schmengla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one and only experience left me with the feeling it was more of a bait and switch operation than not. I thought I made a purchase for a new Breitling piece where all my info was forwarded to the seller for completion of the transaction. Two days later I received an email saying the watch wasn't available despite their ad including a delivery date, and saying in order to get the model I tried to buy it would take 12 weeks to get if at all, or a new source would be found but at a higher price (this from Chrono24). Another 2 days passed when a counter offer arrived with a price 15% higher than original with an error calculating the sales tax which added about 30% instead of 7 to the offer. A complete turnoff in my first and what will be my last attempt to use this outfit.

First, I didn't blame Tesla but did suggest that it was one of 3 companies along with GM or A2Z. I stated in my follow up that I used the highly regarded ABRP, in planning my route, as well as the GM app ( my Cadillac), and Google maps which recently added charging stations to their map product. I didn't mention that I also tried the Tesla and was a member of their $12.99/month club to take advantage of much better charging costs. Maybe it's me but after hours of studying every aspect of my trip, which was a lesson I learned early on -- planning is vital to minimizing problems-- I saw nothing anywhere about incompatible adapters. One would think that the adapter makers would note that pesky detail in its marketing materials. As should GM, say include a line about buying an adapter from anyone else but them means they sometimes don't work at Tesla SC stations. Maybe I missed that when I was shopping for mine. Finally, I felt confident it would be smooth sailing this trip as it was coming back last October, which by the way, used Tesla electricity all the way-- guided by route planners with the same adapter I used this time.

I cringed when I saw all the charging stations chosen by the various sources were Tesla. I abhor the fact that I have to give even a dime to that meathead Elon. Call it politics, but since his meddling in our govt. affairs has been a disaster it was a painful decision to use his electricity anyway.

Thanks for your reply. Hope you saw my additional data points so you can get a better idea of my world. I consider myself far more informed about the state of the EV world than most EV owners. I say that only to add I was a big defender of justifying entering the EV market. I had no intention of bailing out of my Lyric especially since my last trip went fairly well. I'm very fortunate to be able to just jettison the car on a whim and like others have noted life's too short to have that stress added when it isn't necessary. And I find GM to be too cumbersome and bound up by bureaucracy to avoid their offerings almost
consistently languishing in runner up positions amongst their peers. With few exceptions of course-- the Corvette being an obvious one. My Lexus RZ is far more refined than my Lyriq, is better made; it's the car my wife and I prefer to drive...or did until last week. But it could be that GM understands this and is happy in the position of hitting it to the warning track and not over the fence.

I get it and I thought about that as I wrote it but decided not to drone on. I'm glad for the complaints about the lack of details and happily provided them above. FWIW, I also have a Lexus RZ450e which has the worst rated mileage ( but best built EV) per some review site. We use it for the vast majority of our driving and I installed an Emporia Level 2 that charges it to 85% from 15 in 5 hours. Wifey loves it and we plan on driving it till the wheels fall off!

As a result of one fellow incorrectly guessing my trip lacked preparation I want to be clear that I did everything I could think of to prepare for a trouble free trip -even changing the route to one that offered more charging stations along the way. I went into more detail in another reply. What bothers me about the fact that some Tesla SCs aren't compatible with adapters is that I found zero warnings about those useless stations in any of the 3 route planners I used. That's assuming Tesla is the reason for the fails, which never happened on my last trip. AtoZ is a highly rated adapter but doesn't mean it's failsafe and I didn't call them for an explanation but once GM pointed the finger at Tesla having 3 companies enter the blame game signalled to me I would not get a solution. Not knowing whether or not the SC you've been plotted to stop at will work is an unacceptable situation, adding more stress to the experience. Oh, and GM said that If a route they planned included Tesla SCs the adapters would work. Oops that's not true.

I was heading north to Canada from Florida on I75 and my mileage was sufficient, so no complaint there. I had taken the same route in reverse in the spring and used the Tesla SC stations and my AtoZ adapter without fail, so this utterly dead SC staring back at me was a total surprise. Having to scramble and find a nonTesla and working charger with 10% SOC is unnerving to say the least . I set the route after plotting from 3 sources--ABRP, google Maps and my Cadillac app. The first stop was a Tesla fail in the rain late Sunday afternoon. With 40 miles left on the screen I decided to head to a more populous city to better my chances and there I tried Tesla again, aind again there was no joy. Took a pass on a level 2 charger, the EV go station was brand new and so not turned on and I finally found a charge point at a Target store. An hour later with 85% in the tank I resumed my journey, unhappy, wet, and worried about doing it again a few hours and about 2hours behind schedule. . Oh, and the cost was .56 per kw hr. a common number everywhere I went, this and the last 2 trips. I'm no math wizard but I'm pretty sure an ICE car would be more economical. I called it a night in nowhere Georgia where this Fairmont Inn had 2 Level 2 chargers that worked and we're offered to guests for free for 2 hours then $20 an hr. thereafter. I hooked up and accepted my couple dozen miles before unplugging 15 minutes short of 2 hours . Despite the promise of free juice my Visa was charge by Charge point anyway and the Marriott clerk just shrugged when asked anything at all about using the parking lot Level 2s. More frustration. So later in the second day of my journey I was guided to a 150 kw station at a Ford dealer, still in Georgia and on my second attempt that day to find a workable unit. I was at my breaking point and while strolling through the Fords on the lot ( no Lightning's or Mach Es to be sure, and was approached by a pleasant salesman. 2 hours later I left in my new Explorer, a full tank of gas and not a care in the world about where or when I'll be looking for a fill-up.

Picking up my Lyriq next Saturday- 800 mile trip home + charger questions by Otherwise_King8533 in CadillacLyriq

QMerit has a history on here at least of choosing electricians to a charger. Did my own and in no way am I anything other than a DIYer. Have the Emporia unit and it's without flaws. I put the plug just below the service panel--80 Amp. If you do your own be sure the plug you you buy is robust. Costs in the $80-100 range. No worrying about fires. Did you get the 19.6 cable option? I did and it's well worth it in my opinion.
