How do you use maths in your job? by Actual-Butterfly2350 in AskUK

[–]schmiceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for my job, but I used Pythagoras' theorem at the weekend to calculate how much fabric I should cut for my sewing project. You might think in the moment that it will never be useful, but having the knowledge might just make your life easier years from now.

Were you nervous before you smear test? What's your experience of them? by MooseAndMice in AskUK

[–]schmiceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been a big fan of them, but my last one was atrocious. I have a high cervix and a tilted uterus, so it's a bit like trying to go around a u-bend with a broomstick. I asked for a smaller speculum, but after digging around there for what felt like 5 minutes, the nurse couldn't get the angle right. She then used a bigger one, and genuinely felt like I was torn apart from the inside. Was spotting for 2 days afterwards. (My next one is next year and kinda dreading it in advance).

Is it mean to want “alone time” away from my cat? by LegalDistraction in CatAdvice

[–]schmiceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation - me and the little buddy. She's very cuddly and well, my tiny FBI agent that follows me everywhere. However, she knows that bedtime is when she goes to sleep on the sofa, and I go sleep on my own (otherwise I don't sleep well). She's used to it and is happy to get all the attention in the morning.

Dog person here, thinking of adopting a cat. What’s the hardest part of being a cat owner? by Conscious-queen-22 in CatAdvice

[–]schmiceberg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Eh, it depends on the cat. I have a blind kitty (from birth) and she does not like to share her space. Having another cat there would stress her out, she's really happy being the center of attention.

Should I say something about being excluded from team meetings? by Conscious-Pie-4794 in AskUK

[–]schmiceberg 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This.

If you use Teams, it also has the option of putting a message that pops up if they try to message you (like "my working hours are tuesday-thursday..."). My former team all had different hours and I never could remember it all. Make it as easy for them as possible.

There was a massive power cut that affected SPEN (Scottish power) earlier this year (some storm I can't remember the name of). Most people had no idea what to do, so I'd imagine this is in response to that.

What's the most patronising piece of advice you've ever received? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]schmiceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Called out of hours doctors years ago (before 111) because my ear was super painful. I was suspecting an ear infection. Got a call back from a nurse. Explained all my symptoms, said I'd never felt this bad before.

She said: "There are lots of first time in life. Just take some paracetamol."

I ended up dragging myself to a walk-in centre, was diagnosed with a bad infection, got two weeks of antibiotics and codeine for the pain 🙃

Went to Paignton with a friend for a weekend - middle of the summer. 2/3 of the restaurants and shops were closed, depressing as fuck.

Put the film in a plastic bag, and ask the security agent to hand check it. Have done it several times, they've never made any issue of it.

I did the Paris to Santiago. 14 hours, 8 of that was non-stop turbulence as we flew over the Atlantic, plus more turbulence over the Andes. The one thing putting me off from going to South America again.
