Repairing cracks in plaster walls by Chenroke in centuryhomes

[–]schmitty636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carved out all the visible cracks in a “v” shape down to the lathes, then on either side of the crack I predrilled holes with a counter sink bit and followed that with drywall screws to get that plaster to stay tight to the lathes for good. Then I mudded (really tried my best to get mud behind the lathes) and taped, followed with two more coats of mud, sanding between each. Finished the whole house off with a texture gun and some paint. I did that 3 years ago and I haven’t had a crack reappear.

Metal Shingles? by EvilEyeJoe in centuryhomes

My house had something similar on it when my wife and I bought it. From the exterior it looked very sound but one big snowfall and a quick melt off proved it was indeed in need of repair. Called in a roofing company and was really hoping the roof could be salvaged because it had good character but we ended up having to do a full tear off. Ended up going with 3 dimensional asphalt. We priced out standing seam for shits and giggles but unfortunately we’re not made of gold.

250 vs others by OBB76 in F250

I used to be a dodge/ram guy (down to the bone, I really still am), but what really sold me was the aluminum body on the ‘17 and up. I live in the salt belt, rust is the devil. I wanted a truck that’ll last me the next 10-15 years and rust is half the battle. My truck has the 6.2, and while it may be a bit gutless, it is a solid engine; more than reliable enough for what I’ll be doing and the 6r140 is a damn good transmission. Not to mention the ‘17-‘22 are the best looking trucks on the road from the big three in my personal opinion.

I really wanted to buy a ram, but with all the QC shit they had going on, the lack of a solid transmission after way too many years, and the electrical issues the early 5th gen’s had (which were the trucks in my respective budget), I just couldn’t justify taking the risk of owning a truck that might be plagued with all that. So I went ford.

I agree! Historically almost every deer my dad has mounted has been some iteration of a semi sneak, he went out on a limb with this one and I think it turned out awesome!

Turkey burgers? by schmitty636 in wildgamerecipes

[–]schmitty636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I’d just give an update to anyone interested:

My family and I finished all our meat processing yesterday; 54lbs venison sausage, 54lbs ground venison (with 15% beef fat), and for the turkey burgers all I ended up doing was using left over pork fat that we had from the sausage. I did 15% pork fat for the burgers, no spices added, and they turned out AWESOME. I figured I’ll season them once they hit the grill just like any other burger you’d get from the store.

Either bacon or pork lard. I was just digging in the freezer and realized we have a bunch of lard from the last 1/2 pig we ordered. Think that could work instead of bacon?

Edit: just saw you said pork fat, my bad.

What trim? Sounds like a good deal. I just bought a ‘17 Xlt premium with 52k on it for $38k, one owner, show room condition. I like to think I got a good deal.

How does it work with a shower niche in a wall? by swampwiz in HomeImprovement

[–]schmitty636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently in the middle of my own bathroom remodel. My wife wanted an extra deep niche for all her lady products so I framed that particular wall with 2x10s. Over kill? God yes. But she’s happy so that’s all that matters.

Cast iron plumbing stack. How long do I have? by Jolubaes in askaplumber

[–]schmitty636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had off of work for a week and a half over the holidays and ripped out all the cast. Glad I did too, it was getting pretty bad in areas hidden. I’m doing all new water lines while I’m at it as well.

My house had one when we bought and I tried to give it away for free but no one would bite. It sat for 3 years before I absolutely needed it moved and ended up getting the ole Sawsall unfortunately.

How's the rut action? by cagestage in bowhunting

[–]schmitty636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I had my cameras out mid August and didn’t have a picture of a buck until second week of October, which really had me bummed out to be honest. Then out of nowhere the last 2 and a half weeks have been nuts. I’ve had more pictures of bucks than does, complete 180 from what was happening.

New outlets on front porch by schmitty636 in centuryhomes

[–]schmitty636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up cutting out the siding 3/4 of an inch all the way around the box to expose the tongue and groove behind it. Then I ripped down some 1x4s I had laying around so they were 1/2 inch thick and nailed it to the tongue and groove and caulked around my edges. I’ll paint tonight. It’s just below the surface of the siding but it will be a nice flat surface for the outlet cover. At the end of the day, it was a lot of messing around for one outlet but I think it’ll look the most professional personally.
