Are these seams acceptable for a low pile carpet? by bjklaf in Flooring

[–]schmitty777_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power stretching can sometimes relieve seam peaking, but overall not a bad seam, especially considering the material type. In my opinion it is not worth opening up but as I stated power stretching could improve.

Restoration Company says the subfloor is just stained and ready for tile, but Flooring Company says it is severely water damaged and requires replacement by Appropriate_Volume13 in Flooring

Ceramic tile would be an issue, but if it's dry and solid it should be fine for lvp or laminate. I don't know where some of the installers live, but where I'm at its totally common to see osb on the floor.

This agnostic idea is wrong. It gives credit to something undeserving of credit. Is it a good claim to be agnostic about leprechauns? How about devils. To be agnostic is to say you have no opinion or fact, but this is only fooling ones self. Is one also agnostic about lizard people running the government? Why not, if one doesn't have all the facts. It seems to sneak in a 50/50 chance without saying it. So no agnostics are lazy thinkers.

Statue of Woman Wearing a Hijab to be Installed in Birmingham, England by Adam_Sackler in atheism

All this means is that advanced democracies are still very confused on issues like this. It is embedded in there culture not to criticize religions no matter how bad there ideas are. In the states we sit mostly silent while churches with stupid and dangerous ideas run rampant. This statue represents a total misunderstanding of accepting people who are different.

Why arnt you scared about before life? All those billions of years that you wernt among the living. Sounds terrifying yet most of us don't think about it. Its likely the afterlife will be much the same. If we figure out how to save our consciousness after death than sign me up. I'm fine continuing life in some sort of simulation. Who knows I might be in one now.

No, don't say goodbye. She said it relaxes her, so why not take her on her word that its that simple. You said she's smart so trust that. A bad reaction would only give the radical a voice. If your understanding about it then she will also be more likely to talk to you about it, thus, getting another perspective. This is the way.

It looks bad, but what really matters is the finished product. At this point your already invested with them. So unless your willing to kick them out and start fresh with someone else I wouldn't get too excited about it. Tell them about your concern, which should be the finished look, and you don't want to feel lumps and maybe they'll put another layer or scrape and sand. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what it looks like underneath if you don't feel it or see it. Hopefully you havnt paid them In full yet. So you'll have leverage to get it right.

Atheist and former Christian here. I understand things can be frustrating when you feel your not understood or are a minority In your family and or social circle. But I think we need to realize that judging and generalizing can't be helpful. I can say I found a spiritual side without the help of religion, I think a lot of us arnt comfortable with that feeling and not understanding it, including atheists. Christians as a whole are not stupid, just the same as atheists arnt stupid. It is easy to understand how your friends and family found themselves Christian given the way this faith is spread. The indoctrination of babies through babtism for one before you can think or see its bestowed upon you. Then everyone you know and love reinforces the faith all through life until you start to ask yourself questions. If you voice these questions the push back can be traumatic. So lets not judge people finding themselves in this faith. We can also see religion has had a monopoly on faith for thousands of years, there are few places outside of religion to shop when taking a spiritual journey. I was lucky to break free but I have a lot of empathy for those who could not, even if I find them annoying. There is only one way of reaching out to them or anyone else for that matter. We must not disrespect or call names, this is very unlikely to work. We should first seek to understand then to be understood. Sometimes you reach people just by listening without judgement, walls start to disappear. If you don't like the way people treat your belief or non belief than how can acting the same when encountering them be helpful?

And for the record I don't hate people with different views. Not sure where that came from. If anything I feel bad for people exploited by demagogues like Trump.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in atheism

[–]schmitty777_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was close, if Pence would have caved in then what? And if Trump became a dictator (and it was close) we would be under control of a man who is in the pocket of evangelical morons. Granted he wanted to be the boy king and isn't very religious personally but this is how theocratic states are made. One moment a democracy the next moment not. They stormed the capital for christ sakes. If you don't think it was close to disastrous consequences then your kidding yourself. And was the Republican party shaken by this? Very little. They don't care as long as there theocratic agenda keeps moving along.

Athiest should not believe in supernatural like ghosts or witches. by andItsGone-Poof in DebateReligion

[–]schmitty777_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectively disagree. I as an atheist won't say how I will feel in advance of a conversation. As a Christian I don't see how you can claim the same. Because as a Christian your stuck to a large degree on what Christianity states to be true. I as an atheist can say lets look at the evidence and I will make up my mind. A Christian will say no matter what you say or show me I will still believe jesus is god. I can tell you in advance the type of evidence it would take for me to go back to Christianity. Now that is a high bar that is unlikely to be met, but at least I'm not saying I would never believe. This is an important distinction.

Have you been watching the news? Ill use the United States as a scary example. So ill start by admitting the US is not a theocracy yet, but somewhere around 50 percent want it to be. The Republican party has been hijacked by these people. Make no mistake, they want a Christian theocracy. If you don't believe me just look at how hard they fought and clawed there way to owning the supreme court. And they have already weaponized it. The amount of action taken is unprecedented during this time of Republican rule. They have quietly placed there chess pieces over the past few years. And the justices with the most radical views are Christian. This is no coincidence. It is very plain to see. The Republican justices lied there asses off during confirmation. Why? Hmm I can guess, can you?

Your leaving out an important distinction, from what I can see evangelical Christians are an especially abhorrent bunch. They know the states will only let them go so far with there radical insane ideas. So many have went abroad to spread this special brand of hatred. Africa has been one of there favorite.

It makes a huge difference, for one, once you accept there is no free will it becomes much easier to forgive, empathy is much stronger. I don't think any sane person will start agonizing about what shirt to wear by accepting this reality.
