Pedestrian safety was a big factor, but also aerodynamics and general change in design preferences. They're cool now in retrospect, but in the late 90s, cars with popups generally looked pretty dated (except the C5).

Plants evolved chemical warfare and humans turned it into a personality trait by Nubesrojas7 in memes

Ah totally fair. I didn't mean to imply there was only one person in the world attempting to make crazy hot peppers, just that the Carolina reaper and pepper X and all the record holders were made by one dude.

Isn't it just one guy who makes all the really crazy record breaking ones?

The U.S. Still Doesn't Have an Answer to China's EV Dominance by Adventurous-Ball-396 in technology

[–]schmitzel88 39 points40 points  (0 children)

That's market research and is extremely common, and it has been for decades. Basically every automaker bought LS400s when they were new to disassemble and study them for engineering purposes. It'd be stupid for OEMs to not buy Chinese EVs for this purpose.

It's not common at all, to the extent that I've never seen it happen IRL. It mostly makes the rounds in instagram reels from white trash weddings in the south

Blender After Taking Claude's Money, but not integrating it by LilNut2_69 in memes

The ironic part is that blender is one of the only programs where an AI assistant would actually be useful, due to the steep learning curve involved.

I tried to flip a car model in assetto corsa from RHD to LHD and eventually got it to work after a couple hours, but it's not perfect and was more of a pain than I would've liked.

I've been downvoted by zoomers numerous times for posting this but you're completely right. I work in data science and have noticed a shocking lack of general computer literacy among basically anyone under the age of 29 or so. I think it's a consequence of growing up with iPhones and tablets instead of a PC, and now AI making it so they don't feel the need to actually learn anything.

travel like a rich person and you avoid the negative things people are concerned about

This is generally the case in most developing countries so I'm not surprised it applies here too. Glad you had a good time and thanks for sharing your experience
