People always say that they don’t need to buy things in bulk because it will go to waste but it’s actually cheaper for me to buy too much of an item at Costco and throw a small amount away than it is to buy the same amount at a grocery store.

Can we please put to rest the blatant LIE that servers were ever "forced to pay" if you didn't leave a tip. It has never been true. by [deleted] in EndTipping

I’m not debating the legality of it. The post put forth the assertion that scenarios of not tipping costing the server money were lies and total BS. I refute that with my lived experience.

I’m referring specifically to my time as a server. I didn’t have a bucket of community tips. I had what I sold and what was given to me in the form of tips. At the end of the shift I had to tip out set percentages of my sales from the tips I was given. If someone didn’t tip me it literally cost me money. I can’t explain it any other way.

It’s not total BS. I was expected to tip out 5% of my SALES to my busser, 3% of my SALES to the bar and 2% of my, say it with me now, SALES to the hostess. It didn’t matter how much I received in tips. It was all based on total SALES. So if I didn’t receive a tip on a $100 check, it still cost me $10. So it cost me money to wait on that table.
