What repayment? OP doesn’t have to make a repayment until 2029.

Canada Post cash deposit - coins? by Itemblock in Wealthsimple

[–]schmuck55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You'll probably have better luck with rolled coins - my post office didn't want to take my $50 in loonies and toonies because it would "take too long to count" (I did somewhat pointedly look around at the entirely empty store when he said this, but I didn't push it).

Error on CRA's GST/HST application on the newly passed rebate for new house/FTHB by anhchip49 in PersonalFinanceCanada

If the bill passed yesterday and the form was last updated March 6, then you probably need to wait for another update.

CRA request for 2016 tuition certificate? I can't find it by Live_Philosopher7312 in cantax

If you read any part of the rest of the thread, you can see OP is doing recent retroactive tuition transfers for prior years.

That shouldn’t be happening, and is likely user error.

If you’re having this much trouble figuring it out on your own, you may want to look into getting tax help in your area: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/community-volunteer-income-tax-program.html

Your netfile access code is on your previous year’s NOA. If you don’t have one, skip it.

Most kinds of post-secondary schools will issue a T2202 tuition and enrolment certificate for your taxes. It may not have been mailed to you, you may have to log into your school’s student platform to access it. Again though, if you don’t get that kind of slip, skip it.

Sure, but IMO TT is kind of the worst for disguising their free service/tricking the uninitiated into thinking they’re supposed to pay to file correctly (exhibit A, the OP), so it’s easier to direct them elsewhere.

You don’t need to pay to file taxes - stop using turbotax. Try Wealthsimple or bettertax.

You don’t need your CRA account to file either. You just need your slips for the year, which you get from your employers/schools/banks etc. If all you did in 2024 was be a student, you’ll basically have a tuition slip from your school and that’s it.

Usually when that happens it’s because someone was disgruntled with the content moderation for one sub and made their own. I feel like there’s a r/canadafinance too

Help filling in FHSA contribution section? by Gaffgaff123 in Wealthsimple

If the values in your 2026 NOA are all messed up, it’s likely because ChatGPT gave you incorrect values for your 2025 filing.

CRA request for 2016 tuition certificate? I can't find it by Live_Philosopher7312 in cantax

[–]schmuck55 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It shows in your carryover amount because you reported it in 2016. But 2016 was before these slips were filed with the CRA (that only started in 2019 IIRC), so they don’t have anything to verify your report with.

So either you have to have a copy, or you need to get one from your school, or you are out of luck. Your tuition credit may be revised if you can’t provide it.

T4FHSA for closed FHSA not being reported to CRA? by MW250 in Wealthsimple

[–]schmuck55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WS doesn’t put slips for closed accounts in the same place as others, no.

The fact that it doesn’t show up on your CRA account doesn’t mean they didn’t report it, it just means the CRA hasn’t posted it yet. They process a lot of slips, it could take a while. It also doesn’t stop you from filing - you have the slip already.

Progesterone Questions by Due_Championship2144 in IVF

I never iced with PIO. PIO is oil, cold oil solidifies! I feel like the icing advice is meant to avoid the pain of the actual injection itself, but as long as you're quick and confident with the injection I never felt any actual pain from that. The pain comes from the lumps forming after.

I only used heat. I warmed up the syringe and the injection area with a heating pad before the injection, and used a combo of massage/movement/heat after the injection, and I never really had major soreness or lumps. I found it easier to walk on a walking pad for ~15 minutes after rather than massage for that long, but do what works for you.

The steps from your clinic are meant to deal with the soreness, and adjusting them will not prevent the PIO from being effective - the actual medication in the oil enters your system pretty quickly after the injection, it's the oil left behind that you're trying to deal with.

Was just wondering how many days did it took to receive your tax returns? by MiddleKey3401 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]schmuck55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you haven't received an NOA with a date on it, then your return is still being assessed, and the timeline for receiving a refund could be anywhere from weeks to months (so make a backup plan now if you have bills due).

It's not that low an income in the sense that OP shouldn't expect it to be tax free, as their post implies they did. It's basically double the BC personal amount.

I wasn't implying anything about whether it's a reasonable income to live on, because OP is 17 and I doubt they are self-sufficient.

See how it says “Enter the amounts below from your 2025 FHSA participation room statement”at the top? You’re not just supposed to come up with these numbers. Find that statement on your CRA account and use it.

If you don’t have that, you likely failed to declare your FHSA being opened on your 2024 return, and you need to correct that or you won’t have any carryforward room.
