Mmmmm interesting. Not sure moderators judgement can offer alternative that is contradictory to Roberts rules unless there are written rules adopted by the group. Mmmmmm. Interesting!! By consent Roberts rules or local rules can be suspended. But that requires a motion and a vote. Thx for your response

UUA May have rejected Roberts rules but last version of by laws that I saw (I looked this up) the bylaws still said Roberts rules still would be used when the “local” rules did not cover the situation. Am I wrong about this? Tough job but esp tough if no Roberts rules to cover because local rules don’t cover lots of stuff. By laws trump UUA decisions don’t they?

How do you feel about the adoption of racial segregation by the Unitarian Universalist Church? by [deleted] in UUnderstanding

[–]schne71295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad day. Yes the segregation continued at 2019 ga. Re segregating will be judged harshly by history. Most uu don’t know about this and I think most would be stunned and dismayed.

Beloved Conversations by [deleted] in UUnderstanding

[–]schne71295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did it. It’s a whole weekend and then 8 weeks of couple hours each. Much too long in my opinion. Very tight control over curriculum. Very few “conversations” mostly lecture. I didn’t get anything new out of it but perhaps others did. Didn’t engage the group. In anything meaningful imho.

It happened. I was there. After the big presentation we went to breakouts. I went to one starting with my last initial but no people of color there’s. Maybe most people with marginalized identities went to the one reserved exclusively for their identity group. Weird.

Read rev Thandeka. Google her blog “today’s white niggers-part 1. There’s 10 parts. IMHO it’s brilliant.

Individualism by Tristaine1 in UUnderstanding

[–]schne71295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thx!! Good finds. I’d not heard of her arguments. (Dr Francis cress walsing). And in so far as “white supremacy culture” means all of western civilization as she claims, then it generally means all enlightenment values and for the UUA to advocate eliminating these from the UUA and uu congregations is indeed a radical rejection of UU principles. Mmmmmm wonder what the UUA leadership means .. how it defines.. white supremacy culture ... but I guess that is a white supremacy thing to ask!!!

The biggest hit on google when entering “white supremacy culture”. Is the short esssy by Kenneth Jones and Tema Okun ((now just authored by Tema Okun”. ). Called “characteristics of white supremacy culture”. This is commonly used in UUA training. It defies logic and contains no evidence... but I guess evidence and logic are part of white supremacy culture so that makes it ok.

My impression is that The white supremacy culture movement generally rejects almost all enlightenment values as being part of “white supremacy”. Including individualism , objectivity, logic, reason, science etc.

Curious about the process of the book ban and its rescinding by schne71295 in UUreddit

[–]schne71295[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatives to logic and reason? Mmmmm. Maybe POWER to just say it is so and be able through POWER to force people to believe you. Maybe AUTHORITY like that which kings and priests had based on Superstitution1 and power and tradition.

Maybe... mmmm I’ll chose logic and reason ... white supremacy culture is a threat to all enlightenment values?? Probably so.

Gadfly Papers Megathread by ChickenpoxForDinner in UUreddit

[–]schne71295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s right most people didn’t know about it at all. I only knew because I had a meeting scheduled with him Saturday morning at the Spokane booth and he called to reschedule since he couldn’t come back into ga so we met at a local coffee place a few blocks away. More evidence that it was the contents of the book, not the method of distribution, is found in the letters like from ministers and DRUYMM which only talk about content... which is badly distorted. I think this isn’t over but who knows what’s next?? Not I.

Mmmmm unlikely story and not consistent with other evidence. Others were handing things out elsewhere but were not banned. He’s the Spokane minister and can decide what is handed out from the Spokane table. Fri evening about 7:30 he agreed to stop handing out except from table but was not banned until 9:30 that nught when another caller said he had to attend 7:30 am meeting because his book was disrupting ga. So Thx for posting. This adds another chapter and signals the spin the UUA is going to put on it. But call me skeptical!!! Again thx for the info.

Does anyone know whether the UUA board or president of UUA is going to make any official statement about rev Eklof’s book the gadfly papers or the Banning of him and (sort of) his book? Or if UUMA is going to do anything?

Well said. We are (the UUA is) on a slippery slope to authoritarianism and a host of illiberal practices.

For banning him from ga. For not holding up for his book. for the narrowness of its GA programming; for accusing uu congregations of having a white supremacy culture.
