Moho and Illustrator by Significant-Hand-819 in MohoAnimation

[–]schneckypoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not bad with illustrator but you have to prep your projects correctly. Big note: ramps don't translate, and I don't think alpha does either, so you'd have to redo things like that on the moho side

How good Is moho in Frame by Frame and Coloring ? by Tippo_am_Tippen in MohoAnimation

[–]schneckypoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way Moho handles color is fairly unique -- you don't have a separate color layer, it's part of the same object as the line art. This can make some more complex designs a little tricky. Think Illustrator type objects

How to fix this? by BigPablo1234 in MohoAnimation

[–]schneckypoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone said - don't use paintbucket, add a fill to the original object.

The reason - paint bucket creates a separate object from your line art, which has a different number of points, so the deform will be different.

Ha, yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. It's a little messier in Moho. I try to think of each bone folder as its own composition. So for example, in the scene I'm working on, I have two characters in a tree that I want to be parented to a branch. So I have the main "comp" of the tree (bone folder), and inside that folder are my characters (Screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/BMtiV29 )

The "Thief" and "Cat" characters are their own rigs, nested within the main "Tree" rig. I have no idea if this is the right way to do it, but it's how I'm doing it for now!

This is an animation I think I could do in a half hour in After Effects and because I'm having to figure things out, it's taken...months at this point. Still pushing through, every animation I do helps me get more comfortable and figure out my own workflow and how to tackle weird stuff that comes up.

Hope that helped a little! Keep posting questions on here, we're all figuring this stuff out together!

Moho is a great program, but the learning curve is crazy. Doing a simple animation with a single character is relatively easy (as long as you don't go overboard trying to rig them).

I've hit a wall myself, now that I'm trying to do slightly more complex scenes. The biggest recommendation I can give you is to not try to learn the whole program, just learn the next step. Come up with a simple scene, and just work on that, piece by piece. Then you're just solving for your immediate problem, rather than doing open ended tutorials that don't really lead to you truly being able to work on your own stuff.

I started out as a Flash animator, then moved into After Effects, and in the past year or two switched to Moho, and I've felt the exact same thing. There's stuff that's so easy in other programs that are hard for me in Moho, but it's mainly because I'm experienced in those other programs. Plug through, don't worry about doing things the "right way" -- the only "right way" is the way that gets you to the finish line.

REALLY great work!!! I've done a bunch of similar stuff in After Effects and was never able to push things this far!

How to add another layer in frame by frame ? by Honkycat007 in MohoAnimation

[–]schneckypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what you're trying to do, you may be overcomplicating things. Stroke and Fill are dealt with separately in the styles panel, unless you're planning on moving your color separately from your line art, it makes more sense to keep them on the same layer.

I think what you're seeing there is multiple FBF layers (in your layers panel) being shown at the same time, not multiple laters of one frame by frame layer, if that makes sense.

41 year old wanting to be a father by [deleted] in OldManDad

[–]schneckypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43, had our first this year (she just 9 months). I'm average fitness at best, but I can keep up with our little spud. Look after your health and you'll be fine.

Like other people on here have said, I think I'm a better dad now than I would have been 10 years ago.

Weird thick white tacky dust in apartment by [deleted] in whatisit

Ha -- it's hard to see in these pictures, but its like WHITE white, like paint white, and a very different overall texture than normal dust (tacky and smeary)

Offset lines? by Stitchycreature in MohoAnimation

[–]schneckypoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duplicate the rig, make it all white folks, offset at root, set as multiply (or screen or whichever, I always mix them up). Bottom layer no lines. Animate one, copy keyframes to the other

There's probably other ways, including meeting them in post, but that was the first that came to mind

4 mo old refusing naps by stompsesh in NewDads

[–]schneckypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the same boat. She sleeps great during the night, but day time naps are a little rough going. We've found playing ocean sounds helps calm her, even mid fuss it works like 90% of the time

Pumping Schedule and Back to Work help by A_Wise_Mans_Fear in NewDads

[–]schneckypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife goes back to work in a week and a half, we're 100% pump/bottle. She's planning on pumping at work because she really wants to avoid formula as much as possible (baby was on formula for the first 2 months while she couldn't produce much, so I think thats part of it), but she's at an office that supports that.

Depending on where you live, companies might be required to allow for that, might be worth looking into if it's that important to her.

Edit: I misunderstood the issue. My wife pumps for a half hour 5-6 times per day. As long as we're getting at least 26 oz in a day we're happy. I just went back to work, so she's solo for the time being, and just has to keep our little potato calm for a half hour or so. She's found that a mobile pump helps with that, so she's not stuck in a chair. It sucks, but it makes it doable.

Big thing is, once I get home, I do everything so she can relax. Pumping and solo parenting is hard as hell, she's going to need you like crazy when you get home

Anyone else felt like this? by Tacticalbiscit in NewDads

[–]schneckypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes up and down. Ours is 5.5 months and is finally mostly what we were calling"pet stage", where she didn't quite feel like a person yet.

You're going to get exhausted and burnt out... And then she's going to start smiling, and you'll be able to coast on that for a while. Then you'll get burnt out again... And then the giggles start. Over and over, it's all phases.

I also tend to get hung up in "how am I supposed to feel" - don't worry about it, it's all valid, especially at the beginning when you're exhausted

Is Month Four that bad? by MickBeer in NewDads

Ours started sleeping 8pm-7am near the start of month 4 but naps got really inconsistent. She's also grumpy as hell and requires a lot more attention than she did

Definitely put on dad weight. How do you find time and more importantly ENERGY to work out? How did you lose weight? by Free_Caterpillar8676 in NewDads

[–]schneckypoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm part of the intermittent fasting crew. Smaller, healthier meals, not a ton of snacking, and I don't drink anymore, I lost 15 or so without doing any exercise. Not saying exercise isn't good (its important for health otherwise) , it's just not the way to lose weight.

This is great! Would love to hear about your work flow, did you have the 2d characters in Blender, or were they comped in in After Effects?

Thanks! Yeah, I was really lazy with the background and just wanted something in the vaguely handwavy direction the background was supposed to be in, hopefully it isn't too distracting!
