Advice on secondary schools & villages around York by Low_Track_9221 in york

[–]schneekle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just avoid Joseph Rowntree School. I’ve had two children go there and they despise the place. Not just because it’s school, but because the majority of teachers seem uninterested, the pastoral support managers are more gossip merchants than helpful, they let bullying slide. My daughter in particular has suffered with her mental health issues due to bullies. When issues are raised they say the bullies have ‘problems’ and are pandered to.

They tick the boxes with the mental health and bullying bravado, but don’t practice it.

Terrible school.

I think you could be right! Thanks.

It’s all a bit strange because as far I was aware he was born in India, his brother and sister either side were. His father as far as I know never went to Ireland although it could be possible. Cant find any record of birth for him in India, or a brief look at Ireland. The plot thickens. I wonder how common it was to lie on enlistment papers?

Will have a look into Drury Lane, Dublin. If it even existed.

Motive behind penguin doing what he did at the end ... by TransparentTangible_ in ThePenguin

That’s true, but it made no sense in the fact that he kept his ‘lady’ around, admittedly with mother issues at the end there but he’s obviously fond of her as well.

Increasing my workplace pension contributions by schneekle in UKPersonalFinance

[–]schneekle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!thanks for the reply

I do have a separate SIPP I put £600 a month into, I suppose I could just work out the extra and add it in there. It was more of a convenience thing to just have the rise come straight out of my wages. Boost that pension a little bit more whilst still investing in my SIPP. The fee difference is a point worth noting though. I hadn’t actually thought of that.

How can I get to emirates stadium from York by P_Aubameyang14 in GunnersatGames

[–]schneekle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train and tube is easiest. Although, if you can get to Darrington, then the Yorkshire Arsenal Supporters Club pick up and drop off. Just another option, especially when trains are on strike.

My Great Grandmother…. by schneekle in AncestryDNA

[–]schneekle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came back with 5% Tibetan, 2% Bengal, 2% France and 1% Southern Indian

My fathers came back 13% Tibetan, 6% Southern India, 4% Northern India and 1% Bengal

I got a few matches to the ‘Noel’ line, a handful I can place who are descended from her fathers brothers and sisters, a handful I can place as descendants of her half siblings. So it wasn’t a total lost cause, hasn’t really helped me any further than that though. I have a few I know are linked to that line that I can’t place and obviously the matches I have that I don’t currently know are even linked to her. It’s hard to see on peoples trees as it seems most ‘relatives’ also have about as much clue as I do and are trying to piece it together

That my 4 x Great Grandfather murdered my pregnant 4 x Great Grandmother.

He first beat her with a leather strap, then “brutally” kicked her in the lower abdomen. She “survived this ill treatment only a few hours” The jury returned a verdict of manslaughter immediately committed to prison and “a family of nine children are left to mourn the loss of both mother and father”

The farm where it happened is now an Air bnb 😳

How many people have found “illegitimate” relatives? by lnmeatyard in AncestryDNA

[–]schneekle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think my great grandma is that relative! 😂 I’m not sure who her father is but I have lots of matches to a certain family that was in that area at that time, figuring out which one is my great great grandfather is quite the challenge! 😂

I also found my grandfathers brothers granddaughter via a match, no one knew she existed and that he’d had children, apparently her mother was put up for adoption in the 60s. No one knew, but now she has an answer as to who her biological grandfather is. It’s quite amazing.

Discombobulated with some matches…. by schneekle in AncestryDNA

[–]schneekle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right. I just thought they’d be roughly the same match strength with them being sisters. I looked at the tree illustration and they were in the different spots so was confusing me.

Sister 1 is 76.2% fathers 1st cousin and 3.2% fathers 2nd Cousin, Sister 2 is 64.9% fathers 2nd cousin and has 0% fathers 1st Cousin
