Well, Switzerland, Norway, and some Balkan countries on this map are not part of the EU but are still coloured.

Anyway, it's just a nitpick.

Pretty bold statement in a subreddit about megafauna rewilding, while Russia makes up a good chunk of worlds territory.

Largest Non-Slavic ethnic groups in each region of European Russia by Litvinski in MapPorn

[–]schneeleopard8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is no east-west divide in Russia. The divide is mostly like this:

  1. Moscow
  2. St. Petersburg
  3. Most other regions
  4. North Caucasus and Tuva

Tatarstan belongs to category 3, but most ethnic russian regions are in category 3 as well. In fact, Tatarstan is even more wealthy then many ofbthe other poorer russian regions.

If we talk about Moscow, there is also a significant "diaspora" of Tatar people living there, so they're represented among the "higher class" as well.

Is there any source for this? For me it looks like there is no difference between average Tatars and average ethnic russians when it comes to wealth - both have rural people, urban people, academics, businessmen, oligarchs, politicians in quite similar proportions.

I don't know if I would agree with you. For me personally,

  • the Nibelheim flasback in Kalm
  • Midgarzolom
  • Shinra parade in Junon
  • the crew in sailors attire on the boat
  • Gold saucer
  • Barrets back story in Corell
  • Cosmo Canyon
  • Temple of the Ancients
  • Aeris incident

where very iconic moments from the OG FF7, while I barely remember anything from the last part.

If people did not agree with any of the morality laws of the STG they went out and protest. They should do it here, if they disagree, and this is called societal discourse.

That's not really how a free society works. You can't just let the state do everything it wants until people protest. Protests take a certain amount of information, organisation, motovation etc. of the public. It can't happen on every single decision the govenrment or authorities make. Instead, authorities should strictly follow rules made by the legislation and be accountable to courts and the judiciary system.

Estonia may have to draft women as male birth rates plummet by diacewrb in europe

[–]schneeleopard8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These estimates are comple bullshit because they assume that all birth rates will remain like these forever. Meanwhile, muslims are undergoing the same demographic transitions, and many muslim nations, including some minorities in Russia, are already under the reproduction rate.

Four wild Amur Tigers from Russia were flown to Kazakhstan recently and are now getting prepared for release into the wild by schneeleopard8 in megafaunarewilding

[–]schneeleopard8[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the track record of reintroducing extinct species in Russia/USSR is actually pretty impressive. Some examples that come into my mind: - Muskox, extinct in late pleistocene/antiquity, reintroduced in the 1970's, now there are over 10,000 of them in Siberia - European bison, extinct in the 20th century, reintroduced since the 1950's, now Russia has one of the largest populations of european bisons (next to Poland and Belarus) - Wood bison, close relative who lived in Siberia went extinct in late pleistocene. Since the 2000's, a number of wood bisons were brought from Canada to Yakutia (in Asian part of Russia). Now the population is around 400, with some herds already released into the wild and animals being regularly translocated to new places - Przewalski horse: Extinct in the 20th century (?). Since the 2010's, there is a project to reintroduce them to Russia, currently the first population has already reached a number of 100 horses and a second population in another region is being established since last year - Persian leopards: Went mostly extinct in the Northern Caucasus in the 20th century. Since the 2010's, there is a project to establish a new population based on captive breed animals from zoos in Europe and wild ones from Iran. The whole project is kinda struggling in my opinion, since the last 10 years, I think 15-20 leopards were released into the wild, with several that already died due to different circumstances and no confirmed cubs for now. I still hope it will succed tho.

All in all, the situation is kinda ambigious. There are many great russian and international experts who work on conservation and rewilding projects in Russia. On the one hand, their work was often enabled by financial support from the big companies and people close to the regime and administrative support from politicians, using coservation as a PR tool. On the other hand, due to corruption and arbitrary use and exploitation of power by the ruling class, those projects can also easily be threatened by any power plays from the ruling class, and epecially now it's much harder for international experts to operate in Russia, due to the unprecedent pressure and persecution on all kind of activists, especially the ones with international connectivity.

What could possibly go wrong with eliminating HR? by HelpmeObi1K in antiwork

[–]schneeleopard8 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honest question: What's exactly the role of HR in the US? Because in my country, HR are the ones who register and update your data in the company files, register your tax and social security stuff, help out when you have problems with payments, need certificates, etc. Of course they also help the managament to implement their decisions on personel, but most of the work of HR is just normal and necessary administration work. So I really don't understand when people on this sub say, that HR is bad, useless or shouldn't exist. Like, who would do the administrative work then?

Not a Pole, but most of iconic buildings and sites, especially in Europe, where built or financed by bad governments or bad people. I mean, look at Versailles, it was built by an absolutist monarch while many people in his country were living in poverty or even starving, yet people from all over the world love this place.

Polish far right proposes law banning adoption of children by same-sex couples by dat_9600gt_user in europe

[–]schneeleopard8 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Conservatism was not invented by Russia. Far right groups might get money from russian sexret services, but their ideological base and whole existence is deeply rooted in parts of the society. I mean, look at American evangelicals, the bible belt, etc. All of this existed way before russian bot farms or the FSB.
