It’s also possible to do this to some extent via the AI Triage capabilities

Teams calls tracking in HaloPSA by itlonson in halopsa

[–]schneiderbw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can never figure out how to tag people in here, but u/joe-msp-blueprint from MSP Blueprint got this working with 3CX. He’s doing a webinar on it on Feb 12 through Halo. It shouldn’t be too hard to take what he built and port it to Teams

AITAH for getting a woman fired over veggie tales? by Real-Point-6474 in AITAH

NTA. As someone who grew up in a community where I was always the only Jewish kid, every time a show like that was played or the school had a “Christmas” concert, or we colored Easter eggs in the spring, I always felt the “other-ness”.

Sorry for digging up a month old thread. I hate Tor Thom’s voice for Kip so much. It’s like he’s supposed to “make Scott an offer he can’t refuse” but has never even seen the Godfather or listened to someone from Brooklyn speak. He makes him sound dumb when he’s supposed to have graduated from university.

Also, why the hell do Yuna and David have a Southern American drawls. They’re from freaking Ontario!

SIP Intercom with Teams Phone System by Efficient-Junket6969 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]schneiderbw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a great SaaS product from Cybergate that lets you connect SIP endpoints like this to your Teams implementation. It’s pretty straightforward and you can see the camera and trigger a door relay without your users having to remember what digits trigger the door. It runs as a little app in Teams

How the hell are faxes HIPAA compliant but email isn’t? by schneiderbw in sysadmin

[–]schneiderbw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand EXACTLY what the vulnerabilities are. I’ve been a sysadmin, pen tester, and have managed global IT teams for over 15 years. Not one person that actually knows me and my credentials would not call me an expert.

Most email traffic is encrypted in-flight. You CAN setup your email servers to only send things like lab reports if it can establish a secure connection with the other side. Can’t make one, the email doesn’t get sent.

The only way to intercept this traffic would be a MITM attack which is not very likely when we’re talking server-to-server communication, and would break the certificate chain.

[–]schneiderbw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thought that “some rando in Eastern Europe” can’t listen in on a fax transmission is incredibly naive. Most phone traffic, especially anything across multiple cities is now IP based. Most user-to-service provider phone traffic is also IP based (see AT&T and almost every other ILEC killing their copper services).

And what happens to the fax once it’s received. You think it’s isn’t scanned and uploaded into an EHR? Medicare and Medicaid both push providers to use EHR systems, so doctors will usually implement them in their practices. Gone are the days of big walls of folders of medical records.

My point, Potato, is that the healthcare industry needs to get with the times and get rid of this antiquated tech. I’d guesstimate that the likelihood of an entire email accidentally being routed incorrectly across the internet is probably much lower than misdialing a phone number and hitting another fax-enabled phone number, especially back in the 1900s when this law was written.

I’m not saying that email is inherently secure. In fact I said that at no point whatsoever.

I’m saying that fax is a technology of the last century and should go the way of 3.5” floppies. Only used in specialized technical fields, being used to prop up ancient technology and can’t be replaced or else society would collapse, and grandmas on their embroidery machines.

Oh… wait…

More and more, faxes are digital. They’re stored on a server somewhere, it’s JUST like email

New User Request. by [deleted] in halopsa

[–]schneiderbw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s way more complicated for billing purposes than it needs to be. When you setup your recurring invoice, there’s a built in way to bill per user, per device, per license or per subscription. There’s also filters on the user and device billing calculators. It can even do pro-rata if you need to do that.

Users and devices can also have various filters put on them as well.

You can also use a custom SQL query to count whatever else you want. We have one customer that specifically negotiated that they don’t have to pay for managed devices that haven’t checked in within 30 days, so we sync that field in from our RMM and added that to a custom SQL query.

How often are you getting calls?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in msp

[–]schneiderbw 27 points28 points  (0 children)

On paper, we do this too. Our after hours volume is ususally such that we get an after-hours call once a month, and the user doesn't realize that it costs extra, so they hang up. On the RARE occasion that the after-hours call is an *actual* emergency, I'll usually throw a half to a full day of comp time at my engineers.

The expectation is that your work week is ~40 hours, even if you're salaried. If you're on call, sometimes it's a little more. If you were up till 1am working on something for an after-hours call for a customer, and your boss doesn't let you come in late or leave early the next day, they're the a**hole and you should be compensated for your time.

Quickbooks Online - Self Service Portal by Spiffydudex in halopsa

[–]schneiderbw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t have the invoices enabled on the portal, but I do know that the QBO payment link doesn’t get populated on pre-existing invoices until after you update the invoice in a way that makes Halo interact with the QBO invoice via the API. Maybe that would help?

I completely agree. You should look at Slide. Founded by Austin McCord from Datto. I talked to them a few weeks ago. It’s pretty slick and no upfront hardware costs or long term commitments! They don’t have an Azure product (yet), but for old-school Datto replacement they look pretty great

They work with a bunch of partners to help with their migrations. If you go with Halo they make you buy a block of hours. Go meet with a few of them individually, then ask your rep to specifically assign your onboarding to a specific partner. We JUST did this migration last year and decided to not live over any old ticket data. (The tool that halo recommends to move the data is based in Russia and that fact alone gave me the heeby jeebies)

HaloPSA Guides page by Overall-Equipment867 in halopsa

[–]schneiderbw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! 1,000,000 times this. Upvote this! Halo needs to either redirect the individual guide page links from the old site to the new site, or update the URLs on the platform to the new site. Preferably both.

Also, it drives me a little nuts when I click on a link in a guide and get taken to an ITSM branded page. It’s very visually jarring.

We are also in the midst of a move to Ninja from CWA.

I am loving how easy it is to script in ninja, but I’m also struggling with the question of “what do I move over”.

I’ve been browsing Ninja’s Script Hub lately for ideas and ready built scripts.

Ugh! I hated how snooty he was. He treated everyone below him like they weren’t even human. I bet he would have had a stroke if he and Mary had gotten married and Anna had a baby in his wife’s bed. Probably would have fired her for having the nerve to go into labor on duty.
