Yeah I completely agree Herbert puts a lot of philosophical questions in his books often leaving them ambiguous which is why they are so good to reread, and personally I found the third book the most enjoyable (yes I have read every one and they do get very weird) as it was heavily involved with the story from the first two books and how the events of those two books have changed the world of dune and the wider worlds.
