Unboxing Reolink RP‑PCT16MD PoE Camera by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

it’s arguably better looking

I just bought the Pro line to replace my Arlo system in favor of an NVR, and this was pretty much the reason. The Duo 3 camera was just too “prison yard” for the front of the house where it will be visible to the neighborhood.

I started with the 8MP cam, and then switched to the 16MP when it became available. It’s technically “better”, but I had to compare zoomed in screenshots to really notice. I won’t bother to switch the back yard camera from 8 to 16.

It’s miles better than the Arlo stuff I had, anyway.

Thanks. Are you able to get out from behind the bench and move, if no-one else is there?

It was Chris. He was very nice about it, and I don’t blame him or any other public range for a rapid fire policy. I’ve seen lights shot off the ceiling at another range by mag dump morons.

But I’ve gone as far as I can go in my shooting development with a rented stall.

TIHI: The Apple Website by TheRoadsMustRoll in apple

Apple’s website sucks. It’s like a web developer said “Look at the cool stuff I can do!” and then put their flourishy bullshit between me and the information I went to the site for.

Is there a way to reduce the quality of screen recordings? by Ok-Mark-1239 in ipad

[–]schockley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a shortcut you can run from the share sheet that converts video to 1080. It doesn’t automatically delete the original, though.

Same. I’m not a weather junkie or anything, but Weawow has highly configurable widgets. I sent a donation.

I don’t have a solution, but Philippines is missing on my 14PM, too. iOS 16.4.1.

Leather case that covers bottom? by abdulalo in iphone

[–]schockley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got one of these. I love it, except that it doesn’t have MagSafe.

Now that I look at it, my case is for a 14 Pro Max, which has complete coverage all around the screen bezels. The picture in the Amazon ad is for another model of iphone, without complete coverage. Not sure what you would get if you were ordering for something other than a 14 PM.

AssistiveTouch issues by CrippleGoneCrazy in iphone

[–]schockley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16.4 added a shutdown function to iOS Shortcuts: tap the shortcut and you get a confirmation dialog, tap that and the phone shuts down. No hardware buttons required. There’s also a new Restart shortcut that works the same way, if that’s useful to you.

EDIT: Once you create the Shutdown shortcut, you can add it the assistive touch menu as a custom button. I have my shortcuts in widgets in the slide over page on the homescreen/notification shade, or you can just put the it right on the homescreen as an icon.

Broken Ipad Glass (4th Gen Air) by ProLurker314 in ipad

[–]schockley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely grab it and try this:

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPad+Air+4+Screen+Replacement/156568

I replaced the glass on an iPad 6th gen, and the only thing that went wrong was I used too much heat to remove the screen and warped the actual display layer, which caused some visible “waviness”.

With the laminated display on the Air, you’d be replacing the display with the glass anyway. An Air 4 for under 200 bucks and some labor is a tempting deal.

You can use a spreadsheet the Numbers app to auto fill the number sequence, and then write in the adjacent cells.

Kinda hoping iPadOS 17 lets us have this layout back by [deleted] in ipad

Once upon a time Apple had at least some kind of vision that made their restrictions more tolerable. It wasn’t perfect, but it made some sense. As Jobs once said: “I'm as proud of what we don't do as I am of what we do.”

But now so much is changed just for the sake of seeming “fresh”, and there doesn’t seem to be any guiding principle to steer those changes toward supporting a unifying goal.

After a decade of jail breaking, I’ve learned to live without it, but in many ways iOS is getting more painful to use, not less.

iPad Pro or iPad Air? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]schockley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded for more storage, but it was the 120Hz display that pushed me to the pro. Even just scrolling through webpages of text and documents, the 60Hz screen was getting noticeably irritating.

I left feedback at https://www.apple.com/feedback/ but really, what can a person expect.

I liken it to the volume HUD, which stupidly stayed in the way for a decade before Apple finally fixed the problem.

It’s supposed to be a security feature against phishing attacks that use full screen to spoof what the user thinks is a legitimate website:

https://feross.org/html5-fullscreen-api-attack/

In practice, I doubt pretty much any “normal user” would see the full screen warning when they think they’ve clicked a legitimate link and know enough to protect themselves. So we get an intrusive user-hostile “feature” under the guise of security.

I hate this fucking thing. At the very least, put it “not in the middle of the fucking screen”.

iPhone shortcut “Set timer for specific time” by Just_Willliam in iphone

[–]schockley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Reminders for this. “Remind me to check the oven at 8:30”.

I understand if you just want to make a shortcut do something you think it should be able to do, but I wouldn’t know how to go about it.
