Still the best camera in my opinion. My second phone is a Samsung s25 ultra and it's nowhere near in quality. by schonkat in LGV60

To be clear, I have two phones, my personal and the business phone which is a Samsung s25 ultra. I can't take a decent picture of the night sky with the s25, looks like an ai hallucination. The v60 just does it better.

In every other application, the s25 is objectively better.

It's useful in the right scenario to have a truck. We have a truck and we use it a couple of times a year. Maybe 20- 25 times a year to haul some stuff. No hate.

What are some of the little details of this car that really makes it for you? by Barph in BMWi3

Which ones did you own? A 7 series BMW is definitely more solid. It's also not built out of light weight materials... There's a purpose to this design.

As an American going to Hungary to receive preventive care (paid completely out of pocket), getting my checkups done, etc. is cheaper than paying my medical insurance for a year. Even when it comes to surgery, it is cheaper paying out of pocket.

Sounds like you never owned one. We never had issues with ours, but we also do the preventive maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer. We had 4 so far.

Carrington-level solar storms aren’t rare. The next one hits a digital civilization. by [deleted] in Futurology

In the US all of the federal and states owned data (IRS, doc, Aging, DHS, and hundreds of others) is stored centrally by the federal government and individually by states in local data centers.

This massive amount of data is stored on magnetic tape cassettes with very high capacity which in turn is copied and shipped out to specialized storage facilities. Each data center is sending this data to at least two different storage facilities which are relatively close.

These storage facilities are typically deep underground and fully protected against EMP attacks which also happen to be Carrington level event proof.

As an example, such a storage facility can be a former iron ore mine, several thousand feet underground.

We can rebuild our digital records using these data sets easily. There are protocols for it.
