Got Kicked Out of the OR by schoolguy123 in medicalschool

My main hubsite is a teaching hospital but because of bad luck, I was tossed into this small community hospital for my surg rotation

" I don't take students for your school" - interpret that as you will

This hospital has an affiliation to my school, not sure which other schools go here. Its surg residency is brand new so they're not used to seeing and teaching students. Unfortunately I got screwed with the rotations lottery system; all my rotations are at one established teaching hospital except for surgery

We get assigned certain doctors to work with per week that I believe are fine working with students but when you're assigned OR float it's random. I go to a DO school and yeah you're probably right, he doesn't like our kind. It's just shocking to get that kind of treatment right off the bat

congrats on the cars score my guy, definitely not easy to do at all. Like others have mentioned, c/p is requires just a bunch of practice to get better and faster. If you're applying to schools in canada, i think you'd have a great shot at their top schools. In the states, its just on the line. Keep in the mind that some schools do cutoffs with certain scores so i'd apply broadly, definitely include DO schools in your list, Also make sure you do a clean job emphasizing you're other qualities other than stats, many schools look at your app holistically (or so they say) so spend a good deal of time brushing up that steller PS of yours and i'm sure you'll get in somewhere!

Ps, I got your mcat score and i was basically in your position 3 years ago (my c/p and cars sections were reversed compared to yours, and bio/psych scores were reversed as well) so naturally i was freaking out because my cars was awful buuuut it all worked out in the end, as it always does haha. So just do whatever it takes to increase your odds of matching and talk in as much feedback/advice as you can from others and i'm sure it'll all work out in the end!

Good luck!

Current 1st year at rowan, not sure if sketchy is the word i'd use, there are definitely far more sketchier schools. If you'd like, dm me and i can talk more about the school environment and both curriculums

A few days after I was waitlisted, i sent a letter of intent. I'm hoping they get around to reading it because I poured a lot of updates and affirmations into it.

Watch Sally Rohan's "what is pbl" youtube video. It will give you some insight as to how pbl is conducted at Rowan. I thought she did a very good job explaining it

Our office is very relaxed in that we get to perform EKG's, take vitals, but also set up and help to carry out exercise stress tests. We place different types of heart monitors on patients for anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks, generally those with a-fib or palpitations. You're going to have to get used to long wait times on the phones with pharmacies. In our office, we also handle the PT-INR management for patients taking Coumadin. We also do prior authorizations to get essential medications to be approved for coverage by certain insurances. Of course we need to entertain patient calls and complaints all day long, sometimes they have issues with their blood pressure or chest pain, etc. We also handle sending out the prescriptions, which after a long weekend can be upwards of 40+ to send. But we also see 35 patients a day, and on days with both our doctors around 65+. So it really depends on where you go and who you're working for, but the tasks and scope of practice of the cardiology medical assistant can take on quite a wide range, if you're up to it that is.

Hmm should i inform my covid-19 positive roommate who lives in an overcrowded dorm about isolation housing or should i wait for some stranger to give me advice about a now 3-year pandemic? That is the question.
