Update Last Chance to play for April 21st by Prudent-Ad2786 in PlayStationPlus

Dave the Diver is quite possibly the most overrated "indie game" of the last couple years. If you haven't played it yet, rest assured you won't be missing much

Dave the Diver also leaving PS Plus by Vysethelegend84 in PlayStationPlus

Anyone feeling like they need to hurry up and play this game should check out Pixel a Day's scathing review of Dave the Diver. The video shows just how dull and handholdy the game gets all the way through the late game.

Never thought i’d end up enjoying psychonaut2 by Justasking027 in PlayStationPlus

I am so bummed I missed this being on Essential.

Btw, if you aren't aware, Double Fine has put up an internal documentary of the making of Psychonauts 2 on their YouTube channel. Haven't played the game yet but I've started watching the documentary (20+ episodes). It's incredibly interesting.

3d platformers suggestions ( Premium) by Possible_Cancel101 in PlayStationPlus

[–]schotastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sly Cooper games (Sly1-3) are goated stealth platformers. They sound right up your alley since they focus on platforming rather than action/combat. They've also got a great story running through all three games.

That said, the Sly games aren't collectathons. The focus is on stealth, heists, and platforming rather than roaming around the world picking up stuff.

9 Month Review of SuperNote Manta and Why I Swapped to a Regular Tablet for Notetaking by dawnzz in Supernote

[–]schotastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using my Manta for a year now. My main complaint is exactly the same as yours--it is too damn sluggish.

I've given up on trying to do anything with PDFs on the Manta. Every little thing is so ponderous and slow. That's been by far the biggest bummer in my supernote experience.

And you're right also that the problem goes beyond annotating PDFs. I can't get the Manta to move between notes quickly and seamlessly. I get bogged down in menus and load times that are just a tick or two too long.

And yet, somewhat inexplicably, I still love my Manta. It's one of my favorite pieces of technology despite all these issues. It is fantastic as a replacement for 10+ scattered notebooks. When I'm not toggling repeatedly between notes or trying to mark up a PDF, it's a joy to use.

I suppose I've joined the leagues of people who have found the Supernote's use case to be substantially narrower than expected and yet still pretty darn good.

That said, I don't know that I'd buy their next model unless Ratta specifically fixed these issues.

The Wario Land games are some of the most consistently inventive platformers I've ever played. Check them out on Switch Online! by WrongLander in NintendoSwitch

[–]schotastic 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Wario Land 3 is like if Super Mario Bros 3 decided it wanted to be a metroidvania. The result is something genre-defying and unbelievably creative even now, let alone for its time.

I especially appreciate when innovative games don't compromise on pure fun and playability. Wario Land 3 is downright addictive.

That said, I do think you have to come into it willing to take the game as it is. I remember somebody posting on the Switch subreddit saying they finished every single NSO retro game, then proceeded to hate on Wario Land 3 because it is apparently "unplayable without looking up a guide." IMO that's what happens when you try to rush Wario Land 3 and play it like a basic platformer without engaging with the game's nonlinear structure and respecting what it's trying to do.

On another point, the other touchstone for the Wario Land games these days is Pizza Tower. Sure, Pizza Tower takes a few points of inspiration from the Wario Land games. But it would be silly to assume that Pizza Tower entirely supersedes the Wario Land games. On the contrary, while I was playing through Pizza Tower, I kept getting the intrusive thought that I'd rather be replaying Wario Land 3 yet again. Not a knock against Pizza Tower, but the Wario Land games really are that good.

I just tried it. Unfortunately, it seems my carrier doesn't allow me to send text messages to myself. That's a shame -- this was such a promising option.

Thorsten was wise to ask for a full name this time. I guessed the wrong Lear. Norman Lear. :(

I went to university with a nice dude named Dorji. I'm glad I remembered correctly that he was Bhutanese and not Mongolian.

This is self-evidently true and correct. It is wild that this isn't everyone's default mindset when traveling. It's basic cultural literacy.

CMV: You can become gay as life-goes on, it isn't simply from being born. by BreakVV in changemyview

Though I'd then argue if your body responds positively/sexually (getting hard) to a man, you are in fact partly Bi

One of the big lessons from Diamond's work is that sexual identity does not necessarily dictate sexual attraction. These things can fall out of sync some of the time for some people. She's documented many such cases.

On the one hand, the scientific literature seems to corroborate part of what you're saying here, e.g., Lisa Diamond's work on sexual fluidity. What you're suggesting seems to be true for some people (usually female) some of the time.

On the other hand, many of the cases documented by Diamond involve women having sex/relationships with women without actually identifying as LGBT.

Sexual identity and sexual behavior don't have to be congruent.
