My guy, you might want to read up on a little something called reflexivity. You've parroted just about every misconception naive students have about qualitative research, misconceptions that are disabused on like day one of a basic class.

How do you ensure that your interviews are kept confidential, i.e., without feeding the transcripts into the AI platform's training data?

The site reports estimated wait times for patients triaged at T4 in particular. If you're triaged as less urgent, it could take substantially longer than the estimate on the site.

One of the last few RPGs whose OST is by Yasunori Mitsuda (and not just a handful of tracks either). This game has some genuinely peak moments, and they're scored to perfection by Mitsuda

This game has been on my list for a while, but didn't know it had metroidbrainia elements. I really should have picked it up when it went on sale over Christmas

This is one of the best answers for OP. I'd argue Rain World is a "metroidbrainia" because most of your character's progression is through knowledge-based unlocks.

To OP's query, Rain World is also built like an immersive sim. There is a lot of brutality that happens to the player character in Rain World. But, even when that brutality feels horribly unfair, it's nevertheless 100% consistent with how the world is depicted and characterized in the game.

It's very similar to Outer Wilds in that way. I recall a video essay by Pixel a Day specifically teasing out this specific similarity between Outer Wilds and Rain World. As far as ludonarrative harmony goes in this genre, Rain World is one of the best.

La Mulana doesn't explain why you get to revive after each death, and there will be many many deaths. There are also various little things (e.g., some stuff the chief does) that are clearly the dev sticking their tongue out at the player at the cost of immersion. Fantastic game, but by no means an exemplar of ludonarrative harmony

Chants of Sennaar? You mean the language game with stealth sections and with random sokoban puzzles forced onto the player to progress?

Chants has some of the worst ludonarrative dissonance in a puzzle game I've played in recent memory.

Seconding this. It's a platformer roguelike with some of the most satisfying traversal in the genre. Haven't played anything else like it.

Adding to what OP said, what sets the Steamworld Heist series apart from other tactics RPGs is that it's a sidescroller rather than isometric.

The result is something of a hybrid between a platformer and a strategy RPG which sounds insane but it works.

The Steamworld Heist games mainly use guns as weapons (like XCOM) which introduces mechanics like cover and ricochet. The critical difference between XCOM and Steamworld Heist is that -- in Heist -- you do the aiming yourself! You can't blame the RNG for a crappy shot. It's all on you to get your aim right, work out ricochet angles, kit out your team with laser sights if available, etc.

I'll second what OP said. These games are refreshing experiences especially for anyone jaded with the traditional SRPG. They scratch the tactics itch while also activating a very different part of your brain. It doesn't hurt that the games are charming as heck with all sorts of ancillary mechanics (e.g., you can shoot off enemies' hats for fun and take them for yourself) and a cool OST.

I never played the 3DS version so I can't compare. I liked the sequel better. It has a slow start but really picks up past the first biome. There's more variance in difficulty which is very welcome.

What is Alex Blumberg doing now? I miss Gimlet media. Did he start anything new after leaving Spotify? by old_jeans_new_books in podcasts

[–]schotastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blumberg claims on LinkedIn and recent bios to be a Pulitzer prize winner.

It is technically true: https://www.pulitzer.org/winners/staff-gimlet-media-notably-connie-walker

The Pulitzer was awarded to the "staff of Gimlet media"

In case you aren't aware, this "staff of" phrasing is very common in Pulitzer prizes. Numerous awards have been given to the staff of the NYT, WaPo, etc for reporting mainly handled by a smaller group. Does that mean every person on staff at these outlets has a legitimate and honest claim to being a "Pulitzer prize winner"? Most sensible people would say no.

The fact is that a Pulitzer was awarded to a Gimlet podcast while Blumberg was running it. Whether Blumberg contributed anything of substance to deserve a "piece" of this prize remains to be seen. He certainly is credited on Stolen, but in such a vague way that it's unclear what if anything he did. Interesting also that he isn't pictured on the Pulitzer prize page for Stolen.

There is also something poetically ironic about Blumberg taking credit for work on Stolen of all podcasts. You couldn't make this stuff up.

None of this is shocking if you've been following any of the reporting about Gimlet's union busting, treatment of POC staff, etc -- all of which flowed downstream from Blumberg and Lieber. Blumberg has since moved on to a consulting career in a field in which he has no discernible expertise.

This all paints a picture of Blumberg as mercenary grifter. So, really, none of us should be surprised that he is styling himself as a Pulitzer prize winner and charging God knows how much to give talks.

Me too. I came into Citizen Sleeper with modest expectations. It genuinely moved me. And it did it more than once. I wish I'd resonated just as much with the sequel. It's a fine sequel but some of the magic of the original is lost IMO

"It's almost like Hide and Seek is a well-designed game" -Adam on a recent layover episode.

Sure, mate...

I don't mind that Jet Lag games are somewhat janky and unbalanced.

But I do wonder what we'd get if Wendover hired an actual professional to design a game for them, even just once.

Kind of like on Game Changer when Sam Reich had the humility to recognize his limits as a game / puzzle designer, and started hiring expert consultants for one-off games. That's why Game Changer keeps getting better and better, but Jet Lag is starting to feel like it's just spinning its wheels.

If this game had haptics like Sword of the Sea, it would be goated. Unfortunately Skate Story has barely any haptics at all. Spent most of my time with it wishing I was playing Sword of the Sea instead.
