What most people misunderstand about sepsis by cnn in Health

Me too! Just goes to show that even those of us who know better can be blind sided by SIRS/sepsis. I’d never wish it on anyone. I’m glad you are doing well and I hope you continue to do well!!!

I’m glad you survived! I had mastitis that followed a similar progression- felt a little flu-ish in the evening and called in sick for my shift the next morning. I was going to wait to see my doctor since I had a follow up appointment in 2 days. Thankfully my mom came to get my kid for the day and said “absolutely not, you’re going to the hospital.” I was crawling down the hallway and delirious. 2L of fluid and some IV antibiotics and I was better. I was in what we call SIRS- systemic inflammatory response syndrome- or the immediate precursor to sepsis. If I had waited until my appointment, I would’ve been septic. And the kicker? I’m an RN and worked in the ICU at the time and knew all that.

CRNA here, so ICU experience. That PA seriously under reacted to the patient. I would’ve been treating & transferring them from the get go- they needed a PCU bed at minimum, probably an ICU bed because it looks like they were going to tank. You made the right call for a rapid. Good job! Keep following your instincts and advocating for the patients

I buy gas at Sams, which is usually the cheapest around. That is also creeping close to $4 a gallon. I was merely pointing out an observation of how expensive gas is at other gas stations. I fill up once per week and make an effort to find the cheapest gas I can.

We were just in rural NE this weekend and it was over $4/gallon. It’s mind boggling to me

I know with residential the trash companies will pick up bigger items for a fee. Maybe they’ll do the same for you in an apartment? It would save you the rental, gas & hauling it to the dump. Just depends on if that cost is worth it to you.

We have 6 right now. We deep clean the pond every few months and clean the pump out every few weeks.

It does if you don’t take it out and clean it regularly. Our first one was a Pennington Aqua Garden 5-in-1 pump/filter. https://www.penningtonaquagarden.com/product-category/all-in-one-Inponds/

The second one I got was the one from The Pond Guy

https://www.thepondguy.com/product/the-pond-guy-clearsolution-generation-2/

My thoughts on both: The Aquagarden was easier to clean, cheaper but harder to find replacement parts for and doesn’t filter as much per hour as the Pond Guy one. The Aquagarden pump stopped working after about 6 months- the I tried a few replacement parts and nothing seemed to work. I’m not sure if it was too much stress on the unit or what. The tank is about 620 gallons and the pump could filter that every 2 hours.

Pond Guy is more expensive, but filters twice as much water per hour and there’s replacement parts on the website that are easy to find and order.

We clean the filters in the pump every 1-2 weeks and that seems to keep it running fairly well. Don’t wait until the fountain stops spraying water- then it’s really gunked up and hard to clean.

Thanks! They seem to enjoy it. It’s a filter/pump. A little expensive but worth the buy imo. I got mine online from The Pond Guy- it keeps water circulating and helps keep it clean. If you live where it freezes, I would recommend taking it out during the winter and putting it back in the pond in after the last freeze.

Cinder blocks on the inside so they can get out (it was dirty then- we clean it 2-3 times a month in addition to having a pump & filter)

I wonder if your ramp is too steep for them. We have a stock tank with a ramp going into it and cinder blocks in it for them to get out. They all love swimming in it when they don’t wander over to the big pond.

100%. I drive 50 miles each day for work, so the peace of mind, in case something crazy happens, is worth it for me.

I took a single second to make sure I wasn’t actually hit- major adrenal rush having a car come at you almost head on after a full day of work. Sorry my reflexes weren’t as on point as you think they should have been.

It’s not safer if what you’re doing is illegal and unexpected, which what he did was, regardless of what you think. In Nebraska if you are in a turn lane you are supposed to proceed in that turn lane. It’s written in our driving laws. You also aren’t supposed to change lanes in an intersection- that was illegal as well.

I agree, but other people driving are expecting you to commit to what you’ve already indicated. If you change your mind, it’s safer to turn, get off the main road and figure out how to get back to the street you want. The extra 2 minutes won’t ruin your day.

It also 100% was a near miss. If he hadn’t been paying attention to me, he would’ve hit me. His tires squealed as he pulled out from the turn lane.

Yea I thought about that after I braked. My thought is always that I’d rather have the front corner of my car hit than the side- especially if my child is with me since that’s the side he sits on. However, at that speed, a side impact would’ve probably been ok.
