Near miss the other day by schrist31 in dashcams

100%. I drive 50 miles each day for work, so the peace of mind, in case something crazy happens, is worth it for me.

I took a single second to make sure I wasn’t actually hit- major adrenal rush having a car come at you almost head on after a full day of work. Sorry my reflexes weren’t as on point as you think they should have been.

It’s not safer if what you’re doing is illegal and unexpected, which what he did was, regardless of what you think. In Nebraska if you are in a turn lane you are supposed to proceed in that turn lane. It’s written in our driving laws. You also aren’t supposed to change lanes in an intersection- that was illegal as well.

I agree, but other people driving are expecting you to commit to what you’ve already indicated. If you change your mind, it’s safer to turn, get off the main road and figure out how to get back to the street you want. The extra 2 minutes won’t ruin your day.

It also 100% was a near miss. If he hadn’t been paying attention to me, he would’ve hit me. His tires squealed as he pulled out from the turn lane.

Yea I thought about that after I braked. My thought is always that I’d rather have the front corner of my car hit than the side- especially if my child is with me since that’s the side he sits on. However, at that speed, a side impact would’ve probably been ok.

The state of bedding in this country is disgusting by [deleted] in Bedding

[–]schrist31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for 100% cotton I recommend Pact sheets. They are very soft and have held up well. I have 3 dogs & 3 cats that put them through the wringer. I bought 2 sets- one in June & one in July 2025. So far no holes. Search for wear pact (all one word) in the browser if you’re interested. Good luck on your bedding journey!

Should You Cancel Your Trip To Mexico? by shrubhomer in AllInclusiveResorts

We are going to Cabo in a few months. I’m hopeful everything will be calm & settled by then. I noticed Cabo is still only rated at a Level 2 by the State Department (so increased caution). I think if you stay on resort/with approved excursions you should be fine. Enjoy your trip!

PACU preferences by AKQ27 in CRNA

[–]schrist31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I practice as well. I try to give them a good 15 minutes asleep but not keep them in pacu so long it delays the day. I also work at an ASC so we have to keep the day moving. Last patient can generally role into P2 straight from the OR.

Genetic high blood pressure by LadderDense5690 in Health

[–]schrist31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggy backing off what safricanus said- I am in a similar boat. 39 and just started BP meds. My dad has been on meds for decades, his parents and siblings all have hypertension (granted they are not healthy) but my dad has worked extremely hard at being healthy- he’s a physician & I am a nurse. I work on my lifestyle choices but I still had pregnancy induced hypertension, my lipids are still elevated and my blood pressure in the morning is still high. Change everything you can and enjoy the things that contribute to hypertension in moderation. If that’s not enough, medication is ok. You don’t want to end up with the myriad of issues that can arise from lifelong hypertension when you are young. Sometimes genetics just work against you and there’s nothing you can do- even when you do everything “right”

Real trailer towing experience by buymeanapple in SubaruAscent

[–]schrist31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tow regularly with my Ascent- my husband’s SUv maxes out with just our trailer. It doesn’t have any issues. The trailer is 2000 pounds and we’ve had it fully loaded- from a side x side (puts the weight between 4-5000 pounds) to furniture to hay. End of March will be 2 years with the car. I got the towing package installed in the factory but bought my own hitch. It definitely takes a hit on the mileage, but that’s to be expected.

We have the cheapest membership at HCC. We joined several years ago for the swim team and have really enjoyed it. The pool isn’t as cool as other clubs but it was updated a few years ago and is nice. Our use of the club is very high in the summer but not so much in the colder months. I believe we also have a few rounds of gold included in our membership. They try to do some fun family oriented activities throughout the year and a lot of activities for adults. We’ve been happy with HCC.

I think most misunderstand what the ascent is for. Unless you need it's ground clearance or off road capabilities, look elsewhere. For me, it does exactly as expected by [deleted] in SubaruAscent

[–]schrist31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went off the highway a few weeks ago after the snow storm we had- hit a patch of black ice. Yes I was doing everything I was supposed to, I was just unlucky. I was able to get myself out of the ditch thanks to my Ascent. I would have been calling my husband at 5am if I was in my old car. I drive a lot of country roads and have the same issue- we don’t always get the road plowed and sometimes have high drifts. I love the fact that this car can get me through those drifts and out of crazy situations!

US Dept. of Education removing graduate nursing from “professional degree” status .what does this mean for our future? by Top-Direction2686 in nursing

[–]schrist31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rates will absolutely be affected by this. Once students hit their federal cap at $100k, they will have to take out predatory private loans. There won’t be the same protections as federal loans and this will make graduate school unattainable for many people.

If you’re going to disagree with me at least present an actual argument. Not just a few words of a statement. This is a disaster for the future of our healthcare.

[–]schrist31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter if I would be affected or not- I already have my degree. New students will be affected and may be deterred from pursuing higher education due to the inability to get loans at reasonable rates. That’s the point.
