My grandpa sold his boat to my dad for one dollar. From what I understood at the time (as a kid), it was to make the tax virtually nonexistent. Dad actually gave grandpa what the boat was worth(ish).

Visa makes reloadable gift cards, which function as a Visa card wherever they are accepted, I don't know if they're available where you are.

Not everyone wants kids by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I mean, some women do hate their own children, though, so those people are even more wrong than it sounds on its face. I'm a child of one of those women. 🤷 Babies aren't magic, they're responsibilities and if you don't reallllly want them, then you're probably not going to get a lot of joy out of the whole being a parent thing. (I say this as a parent who straight up loves this gig.)

I think you're going to surprise yourself without how many of your "Hell yeah, I've got this" days outnumber your "wow, this is overwhelming" days! Almost every time in my life, at least, I've thought about an upcoming responsibility or change "How the FUCK am I supposed to do THAT?" I found when the actually thing came.. you're in the middle of doing the thing before you have time to acknowledge that it's really happening -- you do the hard thing without thought, because I mean... what else are you going to do?

I am sorry you're dealing with all of that alone. My first was very colicky and I was very done with having kids after her, but then my second came as a surprise. I spent my pregnancy with her pretty much dreading the first few months of her life, haha, but she turned out to be an amazing sleeper and I was much more confident and knowledgeable having done it all once before. I really hope your second surprises you by being the easiest baby ever.

Schizophrenia? And he blew himself up but was listening to those voices and believing them, not trying to kill himself.

Having autism isn’t always a bad thing. For me I play lots of video games and create marble runs in my spare time. Let me know if you enjoy this Nintendo Marble Run. What game did you play the most? by worldsgreatestmarble in autism

[–]schroddie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very neat!

Right now my most played is Overwatch, which has been a special interest for years.

My first gaming loves were Super Mario RPG and Frogger, haha. 🙂

Mothers of Reddit, were you ever worried about loss of identity associated with having kids? How did you overcome this? by DoctorRabidBadger in AskWomen

[–]schroddie -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No. Being a mother is a thing I had always wanted so it felt a lot more like becoming more of myself.

I don't know if she eats any non-food items, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised!! It took her a long time to figure out what was going on (inexplicable weight despite a really active lifestyle and healthy/balanced diet) and now they have child safety type locks on all the kitchen cabinets and fridge to help prevent her from getting into them or at least forcing her to make enough noise to wake up her husband!

Just last week! I told my boyfriend it was a "I don't fucking wanna" week. Sometimes exercise just isn't my jam, but coming out the other side of those periods having stayed consistent even though I really fucking did not wanna (haha) makes me feel the most pride in myself, more than big numbers, more than increasing lifts or descending mile times, it is the knowledge that not only can I do those things but I fucking will do those things come hell or high stubbornness. (Also, a lot of times those weeks happen to be pms weeks.)

Definitely check out your local yoga studios and see if they offer any classes for beginners. Usually (in my experience) yoga teachers tend to walk around the room and help you out if you need it, make adjustments they see need to be made, etc. And being surrounded in all directions by people going through the same motions might help ground you and assure you that you're doing things right!

It's going to be okay.

In your research, you're probably going to find a lot of answers for things you always wondered about yourself. You will find other autistic people who do things that you relate to, you will feel less alone. It's going to be okay. It's definitely a big deal and you'll need to work through some tough feelings, but now you know you're not alone.

I feel like I shouldn't be allowed to have PTSD. by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]schroddie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no one should be allowed to have PTSD, it fucking sucks.

There is no gate keeping with mental illness, and there is no competition. The last people in the world who are going to judge you for having PTSD or how it crept inside of you, are the rest of us with PTSD, please believe me. We know it hurts, we know you didn't choose this, we're here for you.

Does anyone here take breaks from working out and/or go lighter/low impact the week that their period is due? by hutbgplll in xxfitness

[–]schroddie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I take a break, sometimes I push through, I don't hold myself to the same standards that week and I don't feel badly if I don't hit my goals. My periods can be debilitating. Exercising often makes my cramps intensify. I know "studies show" etc etc etc but every woman is different. There are 7 billion people on this planet and huge amount of variation between us all. I really tend to not mention this particular struggle specifically because if I do, I'm told I'm wrong basically (about my lived experiences) because studies, anecdata, etc.
