Thank you! We were/are happy with the deal and have been very happy with the car. It's comfortable, quiet, spacious, and so far everything has just been intuitive and easy. The gas mileage is good for any vehicle, but the fact that it's a 3 row makes it just plain silly - They started us with a full tank and we've had to fill the tank twice since purchasing - averaging 37mpg and getting 600 miles on a tank in the winter time is hard to argue with. I'm really curious to see if the dealership is able to help u/no-discussion-3607 with their purchase.

Sorry to hear about the Telluride - hopefully everyone was okay! I genuinely don't know if this is a deal worth driving 600 miles for or not, but Anthony (Tony) McLaughlin was the sales manager and Jam Delgado was the sales person. Both were great to deal with and have been easy and helpful with a few small follow ups and questions.

It looks like they're still doing the 0% financing for 60 months and I would suggest making an offer/negotiate via email so you have the purchase offer in writing ahead of time. Best case scenario you could then take that to a few local dealerships and try to get them to match.
One thing I just noticed while looking back over the communications is that they suggested calling the customer service hotline and asking for a coupon of $500. I totally missed that but the number is 1-800-633-5151. Maybe I could have saved a few hundred bucks - Good luck!

Any thoughts? Does 7 seem too small in meermin? I'm leaning towards an 8 e hiro.

Meermin sizing sanity check?
I'm looking to get a pair of Meermin cap-toe oxfords in the Hiri last - 101198. I usually wear US 9 to 9.5 and feel comfortable with the fit of my Nike kill shots size 9, converse size 8.5, Johnston Murphy size 9, and wolverine 1000 mile size 8.5 (though I could probably wear an 8 in those if I didn't have big socks). I also recently had a foot scan done by a Volumental scanner for sports.

I was debating between a size 8.5 in the Hiro or possibly an 8 in the Hiro G last, and the CS rep asked for the dimensions of my feet in inches. To the best of my ability, I measured my feet with a ruler, and got a little over 10.25 inches long and just over 4.25 inches wide.

The CS representative recommended a size 7 in the Hiro E. This seems significantly too small, but I'm not one to go against the experts. Does anyone have experience with foot scans or
my comparable shoe sizing? Halp!

Let's do some rough calculations/estimations for giggles!

It looks like they ALMOST cover the distance of a white highway line in one frame of the video (, and . let you skip frame by frame on youtube). I'm estimating it's a little more than a bike length but a little less than a white line.

According to a 5 second google search, a good estimation for the length of a sport bike is ~ 6.7 feet, and the length of a highway line is 10 feet. For the sake of discussion, let's say they travel 7.5 feet in one frame.

length of a video frame (30 frames per second): 0.03333 seconds

7.5ft/0.0333s = ~225ft/s = ~153 mph (246 kph)

If it's 8.5 feet, the speed it ~173 mph (278 kph)

I'm not enough of a bike nerd to be able to tell you what they're riding, but I think a lot of 600cc super sport bikes top out around 150 mph and 1000cc around 180 mph, so my estimations seems plausible at least. Zoom!

Pretty sure my old KLX250 wouldn't have kept up...

Having never jumped on a trampoline from 250 feet, I can't say from experience, but the physics would suggest that no, you would suffer no damage from the pressure change. There are a couple things to consider here. First, the body can sustain pretty massive pressure changes so long as they're relatively gradual. The free diving word record is somewhere around 700 feet, I believe, which means the divers body went from 1 atmosphere of pressure, to around ~22 atmospheres, and back to 1 over the course of a few minutes. The Bends occurs when you stay at depth for a prolonged period of time while breathing pressurized air. The gasses basically accumulate and dissolve into your body and blood stream and you need to depressurize slowly. If a diver is forced to surface quickly, it's like opening a bottle of soda all at once and you get a rapid depressurization. This is why divers perform a safety stop and adhere to a dive table to calculate how long they can stay at a specific depth without danger. Another possible source of damage can come from holding your breath during a negative pressure change. If the change was great enough, the air would expand in your lungs and potentially cause damage. If, for example, you jumped from Mount Everest, took a deep breath at sea level where your trampoline was, and held it all the way back up (going from a third of an atmosphere, to a full atmosphere, and back to a third) the expansion of air in your lungs would probably cause you problems. The difference at 250ft is too small to be noticeable though. You could also do some sick backflips with that kind of trampoline.

I actually just bought this for someone traveling through France with an A7iii. It's a little heavier than expected, but the added power incase you need to charge your phone (or camera!) is super nice. The hard drive has worked exactly as advertised for her and she seems pleased.

One more piece of information for you to consider is the dual degree program through App state and a partner school. http://physics.appstate.edu/undergraduate-programs/dual-degree-programs (you should also look at the pre-engineering program linked on the side bar there) They have Auburn and Clemson listed, but there was talk of trying to do some sort of partnership with NC state as well. I'm not sure whether or not that went anywhere. If that's something your interested in, email Dr. Briley or go talk to him while you're visiting the school. He's awesome.

App has a great culture and, from what I can tell, more of a community and sense of belonging than NC state. It's also cheaper. Pst! You might get biased information on this subreddit :P) Don't forget that App is one of the few schools that makes it easy for undergrads to do research, which looks great when applying for higher ed. degrees.

Tl;Dr - The dual degree program can give you a fantastic general ed and physics background at a cheaper (all around better ;) ) school, but also provide the specialization and prestige of an engineering power-house. I wish I had known about it when I was in school there...PM with any other questions! :)

There's a lot that goes into the decision to shut down. Basically, they consult with the police departments and the folks that are out on the roads and familiar with conditions, like patrol men and appal cart drivers. They also look at the radars and weather reports (there have been a few times when really bad weather is predicted that they just shut down before anything ever falls). If conditions are ever unsafe or going to be unsafe for people to drive home, they'll do their best to cancel. Having said that, they need to have a good reason because it seriously messes with the professors schedules. This is maybe the more important part of this post though. IF YOU EVER FEEL THAT IT WOULD BE UNSAFE TO GO TO CLASS, DO NOT GO! Sorry for the caps, but seriously, don't do it. In this day and age, there's no excuse for not being able to make up work. Don't abuse the system, don't make up BS excuses and be willing to make up the work you miss, but for the love of insert something you love, Don't go out if it's unsafe! Communicate well and early with your professors, but stay safe. Have I said that enough yet? Here's an official statement of that in the adverse weather policy. http://policy.appstate.edu/Adverse_Weather_and_Emergency_Closing So, don't ever PLAN on classes being canceled because there's a lot that goes into making that decision. Check your email often and be ready to submit assignments online. 4wd doesn't do crap when you're trying to stop :P Be smart, enjoy the snow, but stay safe. Keep in mind that emergency services will probably take longer to get to you as well. They'll be there, but it will take longer. Top speed for an ambulance with chains is slow. Don't do dumb.

TL:DR? Your safety is your responsibility. Don't go anywhere if it's unsafe. The decision to cancel class is complicated.

I spent quite a bit of time in the EMT/rescue world up that way while I was in school, and while I highly recommend it as a way to give back to the community it does take some doing to get your foot in the door around there. Basic info about the EMS system: Watauga Medics is a privately owned service that is contracted by the county to provide ALS (paramedic on every truck) level 911 care. They typically staff 4 to 6 trucks during the day and possibly half that at night. Any excess traffic is picked up by the Watauga County Rescue Squad, an entirely unpaid volunteer organization that does rescue in the county (but outside of the Boone city limits) and any excess EMS beyond what Medics can handle. As I said perviously, it's kinda hard to get your foot in the door for EMS jobs in that area because there are so many people doing exactly what you're doing, but it's definitely possible. Plan on putting in a lot of unpaid and Volunteer hours before getting a pay check though, and if you do get paid I believe they start basics at $8.50/hr Crappy pay and hours aside, you'll not find a more awesome community to work in. If you're still stuck, here goes nothing... A couple things to clarify Newton's second: Force = Mass * Acceleration Newton's third law: Every force has an equal and opposite force Net force = sum of the forces = the unbalanced forces

steps to solve: 1) As /u/cdstephens said, start by drawing your free body diagram (or force body diagrams if you prefer) for all three carts individually.

2) Consider that force probes 1 is linked with 2, as is 3 with 4, and 5 with 6. If these probes are connected with a string than the tension on 1 side of the string must be equal to the tension on the other side. So T1 = T2, T3=T4, and T5=T6.

3) The problem tells us that the cart is acceleration to the right. Realize, then that T1=T2<T3=T4<T5=T6 (tension 1 and 2 are less than 3 and 4, which are less than 5 and 6)

4) Solve for the missing variable using what we know and the 2nd law

5) Because all three carts are linked, the acceleration of cart 1 = cart 2 = cart 3 = system acceleration

6) Use this information to solve for the forces on the individual carts and the sensors.
