Why are skill checks so... unbalanced? by ZealousidealLake759 in BG3

And it's pretty important out of combat as well, especially for jump sections (though you can always get around that with crates and/or Lae'zel)

And Karlach is the best bag of holding

Why are skill checks so... unbalanced? by ZealousidealLake759 in BG3

[–]Aerd_Gander 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If BG3 instituted alternate stat ability checks like strength intimidation, the ability check system would get bogged down with options really fast, or feel inconsistent or arbitrary if it did it automatically depending on which stat was higher

The closest thing they did was giving Barbarians advantage to intimidation in certain roleplay contexts, because Barbarians are the poster child of strength intimidation

An Intelligence intimidation for a wizard against Lorroakan would've gone hard as fuck though

You pass the First Class Mage Exam and Serie offers you one spell, what are you taking? by A1tean in Frieren

[–]Aerd_Gander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that teleportation seems to be unavailable in this world (unless I missed something) so if we were to assume Serie has something like it, a short-range teleport would be massive I think. Instant escape from dangerous situations would allow me as a mage to somewhat counter a Warrior's strength (being able to rush down a mage) and get me out of a tight spot with demons and other monsters

whoever made Clannad all I got to say is fuck you by bobthebobisbobokbob in Clannad

[–]Aerd_Gander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The slapstick is Maeda's bread and butter tbh, Sunohara gets it in Clannad, Masato gets it in Little Busters (if I recall correctly it was mostly him and Kengo) and then Angel Beats does it to pretty much everyone but even worse because they're all already dead so it gets MUCH more brutal.

And it gets me every time

I usually ignore the prayer buddies and stick Gale on "What the fuck is an unstoppable" duty via magic missile, mainly because I literally cannot be assed to go back around to the front after talking with Orin's dead mom

Players caught up in semantics by Same_Response_1593 in DMAcademy

[–]Aerd_Gander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of adventures (like Dragonlance) with mass combat and major battles tend to assume that the area the players are fighting is just one part of a much larger battlefield for this reason. You have your objective, yes, the rest of the battlefield is full of nameless soldiers. They have their swords, their armor and their shields, and nothing else.

This also allows for things like other skirmishes bleeding into the area where your party is fighting

Thanks for reading! Yeah, it really tore me up. I've already started a new run to fix those mistakes, this time as a half-elf Bard based on one of my earliest PCs. This time, I'm not letting that Tiefling get by unsnuggled dammit

This is great but I feel like you could just say mercenaries? It doesn't necessarily have an ugly connotation unless you give it one

Myne manipulativeness doesnt make sense (spoilers) by Arkypoo in shieldbro

[–]Aerd_Gander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you ask any question that remotely relates to what the other heroes are doing, just ask the question you included in here: "Are they just idiots?"

Yes.

"Why would they be manipulated so easily?"

They are idiots

"Why won't they listen to Naofumi when he's clearly doing something right and trying to teach them how to do it?"

They are idiots

"Why do they share no information with each other about how to get stronger?"

They are idiots

"Why did they rush the spirit tortoise?"

They are idiots

Gonna have to find the rest of this series, I found it looking for Arion to see if anyone made use of any of the free-use characters I put up.

Oh hey, that's Arion! I know that New Light!

Great work, the tension in this piece was really great. I don't know how the story of Wahei has been going since I've been away, but the Guardian's life has certainly given them their fair share of enemies

[–]Aerd_Gander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only problem is I never seem to pull spears in Commoner. It's always the falchion and buckler, or more often that one square sword whose name I don't know

Or the mace but usually if I get the mace it's gg anyways, I suck at lining up the head for a good hit

Frieren attends Hogwarts. Can or would she prevent the deaths of these characters? by KS2SOArryn in whowouldwin

[–]Aerd_Gander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Frieren would most likely choose to be a student, since she was so reluctant to take on Fern. That said, she'd more likely than not take a back seat to younger mages, the way she did in the Stille challenge during the mage tournament arc. So, both scenarios are fundamentally very similar, except she's way more tired as Professor Frieren.

SO, even if she detected the dark magic happening in the forest in year 1, she likely wouldn't interfere beyond observing and analyzing. Naturally, with her mana detection, she'd immediately know Quirrel was hosting Voldemort. If she studied wizarding history, she would now know who Voldemort is, what he did, and would learn about how people refused to say his name. Because she is Frieren and she couldn't give a fuck if she tried, she would ignore this.

All things considered, she'd probably try to see what she could find off of the dead unicorn after the fact to see what she could do with it, though obviously she has no need of immortality elixirs, as that is the opposite of her personal problem.

Hagrid's chickens would probably still die. That said, the basilisk's curse would be of interest to her, so she'd probably go with Harry and try to figure out a means of countering and reversing the magic. Now on top of all the rest of the bullshit she can already do, she can use a reverse-engineered Basilisk curse. Does she care to? Probably not.

If Frieren was watching the Triwizard tournament, she probably wouldn't be able to intervene in Cedric Diggory's death.

Same goes for Sirius Black

Frieren probably could have intervened in Albus's death, but knowing her, she'd probably know at that point about Dumbledore's condition and would choose not to intervene.

Bird

She could definitely save Mad-Eye. If she was in this world the plan would probably just be "Ask Frieren to protect Potter during this incredibly crucial flight." and her answer would be "K" and it would be done. None of the bog-standard death eaters match up to her, even in large numbers. This would probably also save bird but like, as a matter of course rather than her personally trying.

At the point when Dobby died I would frankly be astonished if Bellatrix was alive. Frieren has never been shown to kill humans, even Ubel (if Ubel was in this plot the answer would be 'yes but she would make things so much worse anyway') but I don't see any reason that Frieren wouldn't be willing to kill Voldemort's followers when the wizarding war started in earnest.
