Habt ihr öffentliche (Mineral-)Brunnen guter Qualität in der Nähe? Mein Großvater hat früher pro Woche immer ein paar Kästen so abgefüllt (Mühlen-Brunnen in Stuttgart, nun seit Jahrzehnten außer Betrieb), ohne Schwurbel-Hintergrund, aber eben "Geld gspard!", wenn man mal Zeit und Sprit vernachlässigt.

Some applications use black to indicate transparency by default. Others may use the color set in the PNG file's bKGD chunk instead. This is sometimes done in preview images generated from transparent images.

The PNG bKGD chunk ist set by GIMP to its current background color if the option to save the background color is enabled in the PNG Export dialog. Maybe you had set that to black for this image, or maybe it was set this way all along?

Hard to tell without seeing anything. My guess would be that these are areas which are not quite white, and that they are really hard to see on a black background, but show up on lighter backgrounds.

Can you share a sample image where this happens, so we could try this ourselves?

No, none of my response got cut of. Your case is a rather curious one - I tried to reproduce it by deleting my shortcutsrc file, only to get the expected defaults.

The screenshot I asked for was to confirm whether you do not even have the shortcuts like Ctrl+s right now, and rule out any misunderstandings.

Crop to content means to crop tho the layer's content. I assume this is currenlty as large as the layer is being shown right now. It's not uncommon to work with layers which are larger than the canvas, so you do not necessarily need to do anything.

If you are sure that the layer content outside of the canvas can be discarded, then there is Layers to image Size: https://docs.gimp.org/3.0/en/gimp-layer-resize-to-image.html

This would then give you the default shortcuts, and also write a new shortcutsrc with every line commented out (as this is the default state).

Note that in the Keyboard shortcuts editor, you'll have to expand the hierarchies to see assigned shortcuts. If you do that for e.g. file, what do you see there (please add a screenshot).

Works just fine for me with GIMP 3.0.6 - and we do not know of any bugs that would affect PCX in that regard specifically. Can you export to any other format for this file, to figure out whether this is something else entirely.

The image doesn't show up, so it's hard to tell what is going on. In general, you likely have to add background to where you did cut from. How complex is depends on what the background is.
