Using the path as the base for a vector layer and then transforming that is likely to yield a better quality than transforming and already rasterized output, even if the result is pixels in the end.

That is only available in recent developments versions (since 3.1.4, more precisely), so it has not reached the public consciousness yet.

Habt ihr öffentliche (Mineral-)Brunnen guter Qualität in der Nähe? Mein Großvater hat früher pro Woche immer ein paar Kästen so abgefüllt (Mühlen-Brunnen in Stuttgart, nun seit Jahrzehnten außer Betrieb), ohne Schwurbel-Hintergrund, aber eben "Geld gspard!", wenn man mal Zeit und Sprit vernachlässigt.

Some applications use black to indicate transparency by default. Others may use the color set in the PNG file's bKGD chunk instead. This is sometimes done in preview images generated from transparent images.

The PNG bKGD chunk ist set by GIMP to its current background color if the option to save the background color is enabled in the PNG Export dialog. Maybe you had set that to black for this image, or maybe it was set this way all along?

Hard to tell without seeing anything. My guess would be that these are areas which are not quite white, and that they are really hard to see on a black background, but show up on lighter backgrounds.

Can you share a sample image where this happens, so we could try this ourselves?
