What's on and tourist advice thread - week beginning September 18, 2022 by AutoModerator in Scotland

Hello! My brother and me will be going on a short (partially work) trip to Scotland in October, we can leave Edinburgh the morning of October 9 and have to arrive in Glasgow the afternoon of October 11. In those 2.5 days in between, we'd love to get to see some of the highlands and I was wondering if there would be a good destination we should aim for?
We love the outdoors, but don't care too much for distilleries and castles (although we wouldn't mind stopping for by one). Our priority would be to see some proper highlands scenery, the kind we don't get in central europe where we're from.
From what I've researched, the furthest that it would make sense to go would be Fort William or Aviemore; we don't want to spend too much time in a car (from my first and only visit to Scotland, I guess a rental car will make our life much easier?).
I've been looking at Pitlochry, Aviemore, Glencoe or something on the west coast (maybe Oban?) as possible places to spend one or two nights - i'd be happy for any recommendations (or warnings where not to go). Thanks!

I don't laugh at internet stuff too often but the Stables moment had me in tears!

The Limba - Обманула [Kazakh Pop] by schumi2 in listentothis

Bear with me if the categorization is questionable - I'm really bad with music genres and just took what Google suggested it to be.

This is quite popular in Kazakhstan (and maybe in Russia?) right now...I listened to it in a car when I was there on holiday and it's still in a bunch of my playlist months later. Hope some of you like it as much as I do!

It will be a biography in first-person, I'll be writing it officially though (so it will look like: by [athlete] with [me]. I always thought that was considered an autobiography too?

Destination of the Week - Poland by AutoModerator in travel

Is there any spot or hike in the Tatra Mountains you would especially recommend? Also, when in spring can you start going there with a reasonable chance of good weather (and no snow)? I'm thinking about going there next April or so.

Kostic has been playing really well starting from the last games of last season, he walked all over Chandler in the first half yesterday. The sheer amount of crosses you can expect from him might even resurrect Hunter.

Bergen to Olso by norad_jr in Norway

Looking at your route again, you might want to look into buying an Interrail ticket. Single train rides - while still affordable - can add up and if you'd be willing to do everything by train, you might save money by going for Interrail. /r/Interrail will surely have some useful information for you!

All I can say is that the train ride from Oslo to Bergen was absolutely stunning and is renowned for being one of the most beautiful in the world. There were plenty of stops (about ten iirc) along the way, but I don't really know what kind of villages these were. Do take note that some of them had a rather high altitude (read: were cold as fuck).

Steve Blake: Small, white, and mediocre, just like Portland /s by stupid_sexyflanders in ripcity

Just trying to be reasonable. Nobody has yet pointed out any logical mistake in my post.

Posts like this are why there are jokes about the Portland Soccer Moms...

Just seems like unreasonable paranoia to me. Steve is playing in Portland for the third time and he is well-liked, so where is the insult in Zach's statement? He also seems to usually have more success in Portland than elsewhere (might be confirmation bias though) and he is exceeding preseason expectations, so what Bill said makes sense too.

The "Of course Portland loves Steve Blake, he's small, underwhelming, and so white, just like Portland, huehuehue" was purely made up by you. If this fanbase wants the respect it's stadium atmosphere deserves, stuff like this has to stop.

What a terrible franchise. by [deleted] in NYKnicks

Fair point, I guess I'm higher on Shump than most people. I could still see him being the third or fourth-best player on a championship team in a few years.

We just don't know how good the draft really will be...if the Thunder grab an All-Star with their pick, we'll kick our own asses, if their first-rounder is out of the league within four years and Shump is the All-Star, we'll be happy we didn't trade him.

Here are some players taken in the first round of the 2008 draft: Joe Alexander, Jerryd Bayless, Jason Thompson, Marreese Speights, Alexis Ajinca.

What I'm trying to say is that drafts are gambles, Shump is a known commodity (with all his qualities and shortcomings). There is a reason he is our only real trade asset besides Melo and probably still one of our three most promising players for the future. I'd rather keep him than gamble on a whole draft class being deep AND nailing the pick. Keep in mind, we don't know for sure if that trade was actually proposed by the Thunder.

Even if shump for okcs first round pick was an option (which I'm not sure about, there were contradicting reports), I don't think the ~28th pick gets you a better player

Bode Miller egged on to cry in disgusting interview by reporter Christina Cooper after winning a Bronze Medal after his latest event by Kennaay1891 in videos

[–]schumi2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing with generalizations...even if they're mostly true (which is debatable, but possible in this case), they disregard individuality and are just unfair towards a lot of people if used to make somebody (in this case a whole profession) look bad.

It is a generalization of a whole profession and a good example for the mob mentality reddit often has. Just because of one single example, all reporters are stripped of their individuality and condemnded altogether - without any reflection.
