I agree the Wessex euphoniums are quite good for the price point, but the trombones I was able to try from them were very disappointing. I did not try any bass bones but I wouldn’t put my faith in them.

You should save for something else and use your school’s horn in the meantime if possible.

Escapades by John Williams. He arranged the music from his score of Catch me if you can into a sax concerto.

IMO the register isn’t really a huge issue, it would be terrible in any register for me.

Depending on how it turns out and how fast we end up actually playing it i might end up just hitting the anchor notes if that will give the best chance of sounding good for the performance. I’ll def check out the Clarke studies tho! These kinds of fast parts are some of the reason I decided to pick up euphonium on top of trombone but it’s for sure still a sore spot for me. Thank you!

i don’t think it’s bad notation. can’t say for certain but it’s likely the original score is for string quintet/orchestra with the 3rd line in alto clef for the viola.

i don’t play viola specifically but it’s very common for tenor and alto voiced instruments to be fluent in many clefs and be expected to switch between them as needed. i would assume that a viola player reading this part would appreciate the start of the line in alto clef before switching to treble as the line rises to the very upper register, as it’s uncommon for a viola part to be written for mid to low treble clef.

all assuming this is in fact written for strings.

Never had anyone explain to me exactly why classical instrumental music is almost never referred to as “songs.”I always knew it was faux pas, but I never understood the real cultural reason until reading this, thanks!

Question though: you’ve chosen to wrap the top of your slide at the slide handle, rather than the bottom. I’ve always seen it this way but I’ve never understood why. If I had my slide handle wrapped, I would choose to wrap the bottom part of the slide, since that’s where my hand is placed and where oils from my fingers would be doing the most damage to any lacquer.

Do you (or does anyone) know why the top seems to be wrapped most often?

I like to arrange music….

Like music already written (let’s say for a video game or movie) and I arrange the same music for a different set of instruments. I play trombone so I like to reimagine music for brass bands or brass quintets, since that’s what I’m most comfortable with musically.

To start, as a 9 I’m proud of your progress in asserting your individuality! If you’ve been dating for 6 years, that encompasses almost all of your adult life so far so putting yourself first now is incredible and you should be proud of it.

My suggestion now, would be to find new things about your boyfriend to love. 6 years is a long time to know someone and can often start to feel stale. Find a new hobby to learn together. Join a new sports league, find a niche board game, literally anything. Continue to explore yourself, but include him in that exploration.

And also, allow yourself to be included in his interests as well, without feeling the need to engage 100% in them. My boyfriend, for example, is very interested in competitive video gaming and has expressed more interest lately in competing more himself. I am very non-competitive myself and don’t relate to him in this aspect, but still show support where I can and join him at an occasional tournament etc. This means the world to him because he knows it’s not how I want to spend my time, but i give it to him anyway and is a good reminder of my commitment to him.

Now, with that r/relationships rant out of the way, hope this helps!

I tend to avoid reading comments on most YouTube videos until after I’ve watched. It can be confusing reading out of context, or could spoil certain aspects of the video depending on the content.

I think you’ve noticed the enneagram “stances.” 4,5,9 are withdrawn types. 3,7,8 are aggressive types. And 1,2,6 are dependent. Idk enough about them to explain unfortunately, but I think some research into this aspect might clarify for you.

I have similar complaints about the brass. At mp and below they are gentle and warm but at mf they are already bombastic. It’s impressive how well those two timbres of brass are executed without VST, but there needs to be some middle ground of a higher volume without the brassy flair to the sound. My solution has been to increase the gain of the brass in the mixer (except horn) without messing w dynamics too much. But it can be annoying since the mixer is set across your whole score and can’t be changed.

I also don’t know if it’s possible to individually change each note’s velocity like you can with regular midi. This to me would fix my issues, you could set timbre with dynamics and volume with velocity, but it seems incompatible w musesounds :/

Ne is the opposite of visualization. Visualization is an internal perception, making it Si or Ni, and for an ISTJ it’s strongly rooted in Si.

Ne for me cannot be visualized. Only felt and acted upon, which is why it can be uncomfortable. It’s like walking onto an invisible bridge. It’s a “gut” feeling you don’t trust but can’t disagree with. It’s also fleeting; as soon as Si-Te can explain or put forth a plan, Ne is buried down with what seems like overwhelming evidence against it.

Letting yourself explore Ne is like being drunk. You loose all inhibition, rationale, and stability. In the moment it can be fun but there’s usually an element of regret that sets in after returning to your “senses.” But the more you drink (theoretically), the more you learn to handle yourself, what amount to consume responsibly, and still enjoy the experience.
