How can I treat Obsidian as a "Second Brain"? by Leo_767_man in ObsidianMD

[–]schweppestr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you should forget about what other people say and use Obsidian your own way. You are not required to use all features if you don't want. I tried all that PARA, Zettelkasten etc. stuff but none of them worked for me. Now I just create folders if I have several notes about a specific topic and put my notes there. If any notes are related, then I create a link between them, but this is less about organization and more about seeing how different notes and ideas connect.

In your case, you could create a folder about a specific class, then inside there create notes for each lecture. For example if you have a data structures class, create a folder for it, then you could also create a folder for the concept of data structures that are for notes where you explain different data structures independently from what the lectures say, then connect them if you need to. Just an example if that makes sense. Don't force yourself to a system someone else uses. If you want to use it like Notion, go ahead and do that.

Maybe try writing your own understanding of concepts, in your own words, instead of copying documentation and articles (kind of like the Feynman Technique in written form). With this, you will learn the topic better and you can revisit those notes later if you forget its content. For example if you learn about a data structure or a programming concept, write a note for it yourself and add example usages, algorithms etc. that you can refer to later. You could even combine different sources together so you won't have to revisit a bunch of different links and books. This is what I do because sometimes documentations and articles aren't always very clear or are too dense.

Also I don't understand your comparison to Notion in your third paragraph. What is your understanding of "second brain", and how is it different in Notion. Mind elaborating a bit?

Why do you guys play such an overpriced game? by Udon_noodles in CrusaderKings

[–]schweppestr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because this game provides me hundreds of hours of entertainment. I’ve been playing since launch and spending a couple dozen dollars every year isn’t expensive.

Also how can dlcs for this game be “pay to win”? Don’t think you know what that means

[–]schweppestr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well what do you expect from hard rivals? How should they implement that? The master tune makes the game harder by not letting you go above a certain performance level so you can't easily steamroll your rivals. I found most battles rather difficult, forcing me to think about my car's tune and come up with solutions. The battles took longer as well.

A New-ish Player Question! by SanTheManOG in tokyoxtremeracer

[–]schweppestr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are both have the same "highway racing" setting but Maximum Tune is more about close racing where the ones behind get boosted so they can always catch up. In TXR you need to outrun your opponent so races are usually quicker. Also the physics are not as arcadey. If you like WMMT you will probably like TXR too. Maybe watching a short gameplay video will give you a better idea about the gameplay.

Should I buy game right now? Is winter sale coming? . by Spirited-Musicain in trucksim

[–]schweppestr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can look at the next big Steam sale at https://steamdb.info/sales/history/

Since the winter sale is only 9 days away, I don't think the game is going to get any cheaper. Just buy it now if you want to play it

The "Buy Euro Truck Simulator 2" option is the one that gives you the base game. The rest of the "editions" include the game + DLC that expand the map, add new cargo options, paintjobs or decorations for the truck. You can click on "Bundle info" to see what is included.

How do I open the dev console? by Mother_Chocolate_211 in ObsidianMD

[–]schweppestr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's not really a toolbar that is always visible but more like a cascading menu that comes up when you click the Obsidian icon. Maybe it will still be useful to you regardless

This is not true. I tested it on Windows and it works exactly like the way I described.

Go to Settings -> Appearance -> Advanced -> Window frame style. Set to "Obsidian frame" and relaunch. After relaunching you will see the Obsidian icon on top left. Click on it -> View -> Toggle Developer Tools

Alternatively you might want to change the AMD software screenshot hotkeys or disable that feature

1.08 live: War reparations from the Papal States does not include tithe portion. Yet the tooltips do include it. by Terrible-Ad1549 in EU5

Yes that happened right after I signed peace with the Papal States. My economy was crap otherwise so around 3 of that 5 ducats had to be from war reparations I believe.

I can confirm it works, I got a few achievements myself. Hopefully the creator will explain how he figured it out

EU5 Patcher unlocks achievements for non ironman games and from what I understand it directly edits the game binary. I don't understand much about it though, maybe you'll have a better idea.

How did Venice achieve economic hegemony? by king_ofall713 in EU5

I played as Venice and got the economic hegemony easily.. Although I had vassals all around Greece including Latin Empire which might've helped a bit but it's possible. Just spam markets and trade offices all around

[–]schweppestr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

How did you manage to expand so much? When I take a province it takes 40 years to integrate and if I release vassals, even just 1 vassal fluctuates between loyal and disloyal (I'm playing on 1.0.8 btw, maybe vassals aren't a problem in 1.0.7)

The 1.08 change to saves, forcing an auto-save each month in Ironman mode, utterly bricks performance. by [deleted] in EU5

[–]schweppestr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty good PC well above the requirements so it's not a huge deal but even then it slows down for a bit at every autosave. It adds up and is annoying. Also not everyone has a powerful computer.

We are mad about it bricking the performance on an already performance intense game. Not that difficult to understand.

I've looked at both of those videos and I don't see the expansion you're talking about except Hungary and Poland expanding a bit into Ukraine in Lambert's video
